A week ago i replaced the head gasket on a 1994 Toyota pickup. When i removed the head i noticed that the timing chain had carved a channel on the timing cover. The timing chain tensioner was broken. Exactly where the timing chain carved the channel there is a water passage way. So water started to mix with the motor oil. Many people will keep driving it until it starts to overheat.
Mine has been making this same exact noise for years now. Still runs fine, has power, and hasn’t seem to have deteriorated. I feel like if this was rod knock I have it would’ve killed itself by now…
i could not see the water pump shaft and fan, but that is the sound mine made when the water pump went south and the fan was hitting the radiator and shroud. you would be lucky if thats it, let me know what it was.
Mines been doing this same thing for years now. Nothing has really changed so I’ve kind of ignored it but now that I have some more time on my hands I will look into this. I don’t think it’s rod knock because it would’ve blown long ago

The most common problem of 22r series

Hard to tell from the video if it were top or bottom.Did you ever find out what it was ? And what did you do ?
Rod knock. That motor is worn out. I thought it could have been pre detonation (pinging) but the pitch of the knock would have been higher pitched.
Did you ever figure out what it was? Mine is doing the same thing.
mines doing it now, did you ever figure it out?
@@SCUMBAG12VALVE he said it was a rod knock

+jotham ... rob knock huh?
@@snappaguy5327 let him in lol
@@snappaguy5327rob knock it's like rod knock rob in German rod in English
Easy lost compression on two or one of the pistons , only noticeable under load
Pm what.is.the.noise
Damn that's not just knocking.
Time for bottom end rebuild
Chain slap, thats what it sounds like to me, if it were a rod knocking you would still here it at idle.

why doesnt it have a tachometer my 1990 4runner does
He has a lower trim or option level than your 4-Runner
It could be your timing chain those are common problem on those
If not check your crank
Crankshaft
Mine has a similar sound to it but it's a faster noise when accelerating/decelerating
Antonio Acosta you might want to check your timing chain and push rods
@@CAmeron-mc6fo 22RE don’t have pushrods
It’s just the engine they make that noise
lmao
Yea nope, mine just started making that noice
I'm assuming this motor is blown up by now. Definitely rods knocking.
