  • Dominion: The Making of the Western Mind: Tom Holland & Swapan Dasgupta
Tom Holland is the author of four books on ancient and early medieval history: Rubicon, Persian Fire, Millennium and In the Shadow of the Sword. He has translated Herodotus for Penguin Classics. He has written and presented a number of TV documentaries, on subjects ranging from the origins of Islam to dinosaurs.
Swapan Dasgupta is a Member of Parliament and columnist for major Indian newspapers. A journalist for 30 years, he occupied senior editorial positions at the Times of India, Indian Express and India Today. He writes regular columns for the Times of India, Telegraph and Pioneer, and is a commentator on TV networks. He is the author of Awakening Bharat Mata: The Political Beliefs of the Indian Right. In 2015, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan and was nominated to the Rajya Sabha.
Crucifixion, the Romans believed, was the worst fate imaginable. It was this that rendered it so suitable a punishment for slaves. How astonishing it was, then, that so many people should have come to believe that one particular victim of crucifixion-an obscure provincial by the name of Jesus-had been a god. Dominion explores the implications of this shocking conviction as they have reverberated throughout history. The emergence of Christianity is the single most transformative development in Western history. Even the increasing number in the West today who have abandoned the faith of their forebears, and dismiss all religion as pointless superstition, remain in part its heirs. Ranging in time from the Persian invasion of Greece in 480 BC to the on-going migration crisis in Europe today, and from Nebuchadnezzar to the Beatles, award-winning historian Tom Holland, in conversation with Swapan Dasgupta, explores just what it was that made Christianity so revolutionary and disruptive; how completely it came to saturate the mind-set of Latin Christendom; and why, in a West that has become increasingly doubtful of religion's claims, so many of its instincts remain irredeemably Christian.

Christian faith did and is powerful on wot he says!! In the end the church would only allow it to be spoken in Latin or French and to only be spoken at church!! They said if people believe were to have bible they could be corrupted as not understand the words..More to do with bible being very powerful! In amarica alot of extremist groups left England and Europe to be free and practice! It is why amarica has so many Christian organisations as amarica was place to go before independence.

    Hello, to evreybody.
Some indian from India, do not remember his name altough he's wellknown, told that on a peaceconference evreybody slept during his speech, the only wake was the speaker himself. He wasn't obsaid, in the auditorium all were old politicians, terrorists or not, and they were old and tired and this was their job-about peace.
My mother also sleeps at movies but now she has sleepissues; could you come at us- it is not desrespect, it is our great love...
Just cross the road. In her room is no single cross, she cried once when I showed her my tiny collection of cross's, in her room is an icon from the marriage of her parents, to the east.
    We are waiting you.

@@swarnadeepsen1835 LOL and what does your surname entail? Limitless stupidity to point to self-sabotage? Judging people by their names is the lowest point of human character. You must be particularly disgusting as a person.
