@madseasonshow An entire generation of people have no idea that video games ended around 2007 when the corporations took over gaming. these people are clueless the golden age is done and that they're playing glorified mobile games which are only fun because they're addicting - like gambling.
They just don't know that a time existed before loot boxes and gambling mechanics and daily quests and unfinished games. It's impossible to convince them that skins in video games ruin the game.. so don't worry about the corporate shills. let them play their Diablo 4 FILTH, let them drown their time in Candy Crush Blizzard aka Retail Wow. When we end this corporate regime and starting making actual games again they'll come and apologize to you. There will be an 'oh shit' moment for them when their brain enjoys natural happiness instead of manufactured brain happy chemicals from corporate colors on a screen - aka Diablo 3, Diablo 4, Diablo Immortal, Retail WoW, Stracraft 2.
There's an army of people that experienced the same phenomenon as you did when blizzard was good. WoW vanilla / classic is much better knowing you exist out there and saw the same thing we did. we know what glory is and we will never be happy until we return to that video game golden age. These people that give you hate do it only because they weren't there and saw what we saw in vanilla and diablo 2.
If you charged first against the armies of Mordor, I'd follow right behind you. You are a legend. Fuck the haters.

Your analysis was likely too generous in response to the "From Your Average Reddit" post. It did serve as a useful prompt to create some very nuanced and complex discussions which is not normally found on Reddit...ironic.
Most people will not consider a creators intent behind making critique videos perhaps because they themselves cannot comprehend criticism and critique coming from a place of wanting it to be better because you love it.

I mean, you are the guy who passionately made wow videos, stood as a shining beacon of positivity in perhaps the worst era of the game in BFA, but then as soon as classic launched you did a 180 and became quite insufferably anti-retail. You're within your rights to do that of course, if you don't like a game you shouldn't be supporting it, but it was quite clear that you were revelling in the opportunity to profit from wow but also hate on it as well. It was calculated, sudden, and contrasting your earlier videos to your mid-life videos, I think some criticism towards you was earned.

Diablo 4 was loved at launch because the campaign was awesome. The story, characters, and world were great. There were plenty of side quests and the size of the map was so large that it took a lot of time to get through everything. The backlash came when the story was over and there was very little there.

    • @jippy8976
      @jippy8976 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I’d argue that the backlash came earlier than that, as the dev team admitted things like they didn’t have a fix for the storage tabs because of they’re crappy design and because Blizzard wanted to do the greedy live service model.
This sort of thing crippled the ability to have multiple characters. That’s just one example, but the game was riddled with live service issues that destroyed the game.

If you're looking for feedback: the little eye bloop noises your character makes is genius and brings me an unproportional amount of joy, and I love the monotone delivery (be it genuine, which I suspect, or not... it's still great in either case).
I'm a new subscriber and just found your videos a month ago... I like the critical videos, because I share many of the same perspectives, and it's one of the main reasons I got into game development, I wanted to make the games that I wanted to actually play (I've been in AAA and indie for going on two decades now). An example are your pandoras boxes videos like for SWG --- that's what I lived through... I was there for that... and those where the complaints that me and my friends (even irl friends) had about the game, that we still toss about now and again to this very day. To put it to a timeline and really explain in detail about the failings there, not only hits me with immense nostalgia, not only validates my long standing hatred for what happened to that game that only a small few truly understand the depths of that betrayal, but more than that, it gives me perspective on my own games and games that I work on; And that's priceless.
There are some channels that do nothing but shit on upcoming games... Kira being the biggest offender I can think of off the top of my head (games are hard to make, and judging something for being a year or two behind or being crazy picky about alpha footage is inherently nearing grifter status taking advantage of those that don't know anything about game development)... but your content isn't that. I really do enjoy your content, especially from a 'historian' type of way.... if you don't have fun making that content, even if it is inherently critical or negative, you shouldn't make it... but like I said, I rather enjoy your content and I hope you make more. THERE IS ROOM FOR CRITISISM AND NOTING RUINOUS ACTIONS BY DEVELOPERS/PUBLISHERS/ETC... anyone whose hot take is 'it's negative and just farming for views' is throwing the baby out with the bath water... yes some channels are grifters that are overly critical for views... but this channel isn't that; your analysis is competent and very informative... and it gives future developers/publishers/etc confidence in knowing what works and what doesn't work and why.

This is such an interesting topic.
Content consumers are creating an environment where content producers are wrong regardless.
If you praise a game you are shilling, you've been paid, you don't know how to game, etc.
If you scold a game, you're just griefing, you're mad cause you didn't get a review copy, you are a bully, etc.
Creators are now in a situation where the majority of interacting with a community is working within extremes.
Dragons Dogma 2 is a great example. People literally cannot agree on that game. It's 1 million voices all screaming to try and be the loudest. People don't and won't acknowledge all the conversations. It's just what they believe and if you don't agree, then you are against them and that's it.

I really want to oppose this sentiment popping up recently that anything negative is just "bad". Esp around content creators that need to be always positive. While negative clicks might get more attention i think everyone would prefer to play good games, enjoy them and be positive but that cant be the case obviously - we are always going to have positive and negative moments - that is just human nature. I think positive content might not get as much engagement at first glance it usually gets better engagement and more loyal following. But we shouldnt silence criticism just for the sake of being "positive". Fake positivity is just as bad imo as always being negative.

The odds for that particular item setup are around 0.2% and the dropchance from this farm is around 8-10%, so it had to be a long journey. Not 7-months long, but, well, it happened. I disagree with the claim that "going variety" kills a channel. I only watch variety streamers, with no exception. And all of these streamers are big enough to make a living off of it. They don't have millions of followers, but they can live off of what they do. If you are an enjoyable person to watch stream, then it only kinda matters what you play (of course games that one is interested in are more exciting) but there will always be people who watch you because of you, not the game you play. So yeah, maybe for a "one-game" channel "going variety" will reduce your immediate viewership, but it's a transformation, not a death.

I know you’re not asking for compliments or anything but I did want to balance out the negative here by telling you I love everything you do, love whatever takes you share and I think your voice and demeanor is cool. I honestly think people will hate just to hate no matter what happens and the toxic people would have been toxic back in the day isolated to their geographical area but now thanks to the internet- hey, they find all sorts of weird shit to hate.
I think for the rest of us normal people, we just like creators being genuine and while we might not always agree, it’s like a friend we still appreciate hearing from and enjoy whatever that creator comes up with since we like their vibe and personality.
    Thanks for being you man

    Remain Vigilant.
I started playing WoW ‘06… didn’t finally walk away until mid-late shadowlands. First time i ever took a break even for a week was in BFA. That shit was a struggle to even deal with… as the game had fallen so far from its original glory.
Your video “Pandora’s Box” is EPIC. It was a rollercoaster of emotions. The good, the bad, the beautiful and the ugly. So many good times long ago… which grew fewer in number over recent years.
Not sure i would ever trust Blizzard again. Regardless of my fond memories playing D2 and WC 1 + 2… then with WoW for well over a decade. Time will tell.
Keep up the good work dude! Ignore the naysayers.

Good content as always, but why are you not watching the video in HD? Is there a specific reason? It's looking like 720p or even 480, and when you mouse over the video we can see the little cog icon is not showing an HD playback.

Touching on your idea to branch into the review scene: I think it's the perfect antidote to your concerns about your niche and the content on your channel. The streamers who play 1 game and bury themselves in their niche are in a tricky position like you say, because branching out into other games is a massive risk for their channel.
But look at the review channels on youtube. They consistently get millions of views on just about any game you can think of. Whitelight made a retrospective on some game I never even heard of yet it came up on my feed because I watched their Assassin's creed videos. Feels like video essay/reviews have the most creative freedom on youtube as their existing audience will appreciate hearing an informed in-depth analysis on a subject, and they can keep reaching new audiences by reviewing games that come out as well as old ones.

The amount of Vitriol and hate on the internet these days is at an all time high. The mental gymnastics that people go through to justify their hatred is astounding. When people like this coalesce into groups it defies the laws of physics and morphs into a perpetual motion machine.

I won't go as far as wanting the game to fail, but when Blizz fks up (which was a lot for a great period of time) you guys are there to bombard with videos. It's your job and it's okay, but don't come and play innocent.

I am a little late for using TH-cam to videos like this one, and guides to wow as well. But later than never. I have been plaing wow since 2004, and have some several breaks, and went back to Dragon Flight, love it. But I think I feel like you. Want it to keep going forever, but I am not sure Blizzard is keeping up, and I am not sure they can keep up their good work.
Well, I really love your video and I follow you now, just found raxxabterax, he is also an awesome streamer, and thank you for your guidence, your thoughts, your sooting voice and your videos.

I remember a few years ago, playing D3, when many Rhykker videos were getting comments like the ones you mentioned. Stuff like "why do you still make guides for this dead game" or "I can't believe you're having fun doing this" etc ... and the game was not even in a terribly bad spot. Even some of the more positive comments, like about how he was one of the last big channels regularly putting out new D3 videos, felt a bit 'poisoned'. So yeah... makes sense.

I'm in the minute 6 but I need to say that I had a similar problem with D4. I was playing it and having a fun time, doing all the secondary quest because I taste the story. Suddenly the game became less fun somehow and I never touched it again.

Well, I enjoyed this video because I can totally relate to it, having been in a similar spot when I was a (very small) content creator (not this account, you can not find it) for a different game that I really really loved and enjoyed playing but which didn't continue down a path of glory but instead started to put $DLC production over fixing bugs etc, so that I started to develop a love/hate relationship with the game which brought me down and caused me to create negative content about the game until I finally quit playing it even though it could have been the chance for me to actually get a foot into the content creation field (I had 1m+ YT views and above 100 concurrent Twitch viewers).
While I feel a similar frustration with WoW there are many other aspects in WoW that I still enjoy so I usually still play it for the majority of the year. But I do see the dark path the company is walking down and I wish we (the players = customers) had any say on which direction the game shall go, but sadly as I see it, only the shareholders have any say in that. But yeah, I still enjoy parts of the game, so it's kind of a love/hate relationship again...yikes.
I don't know if you read this, you're getting a lot of comments, but I personally do NOT care for the react content genre at all. I'm usually capable of developing my own opinion about something and I feel like react videos are primarily helpful for people without opinions to adopt the opinion of the content creator. Not in this video though, I see it as you telling your own story and using Raxxs video as a template.
Anyways...don't let any negativity get you down, for each loud hater in your comments there's thousands of people who enjoyed watching your videos that just don't feel the urge to post a comment about it. 👍

Same here! I did survival game stuff for 4 years, build up 30k subs with value Videos like tutorials and helpful opinions. So my audience was interested in my opinion on the day before.
So i made Videos about the weird stuff around the game, multiple cheap Videos per week. Within 6 weeks i made 20k subs and a crazy amount of money, it was insane. After it i stopped the Drama content, you cant build a nice community around that topics, you pull negative vybes onto your channel. But im shocked how easy it is to gain from it...

I enjoy the background music you choose because it's just a nostalgia trip every time. I'm guessing we played a lot of the same games as kids. All that said I haven't noticed the lack of BGM. I can understand someone feeling uncomfortable if a presenter's voice doesn't gel with them, but that's where they have to pick another one of the trillions of videos to watch on TH-cam. I don't think music is going to get them over that feeling.

The idea somebody hate-watching you of all people is bizzare, been subbed for years now and you have been one of the most chill creators I follow even when talking about something youre passionate or displeased about. Ultimately its probably just cope from a minority who are (likely also unhappy, why else would they be watching a video of someone talking about how much they dislike X thing that is apparently perfect and should not at any cost be improved) playing the thing you are critisising which I imagine is impossible to avoid, regaurdless the subject matter. Really dont feel you need to justify yourself to anyone in that sense, those giving someone a hard time for critising a thing that theyre passionate about arent going to care at the end of the day.
I havnt played WoW or a blizzard game in general since the launch of TBC classic but youre the single remaining wow or blizzard centric channel that makes easy to enjoy content (theres likely others out there, I just dont really care enough about how they puppet their corpse ip's enough to go looking)
Keep it up and take it easy bud

I think one thing you're missing from the Blizzard games being good v bad and its effect on content is that you can make content on things that are good and things that are bad. But when things are kind of middling it's hard to make content because there isn't a lot to say. So the point is that people will make out ok games to be bad by focusing on the negative elements exclusively so that they can make content. Since it's easier to tear things down this makes content possible irrespective of your own views on the game.
