If we get similar stats for his 31-34 season like in 2024, great but I don’t think they’ll hover around there as he gets older. Pete is better protection behind Soto. Worst case, Pete can shift into a full time DH role later down the line like Stanton if he accepts a reasonable contract. But knowing Stearns, he values defense and keeping DH open so idk. I trust Stearns but I still think Pete is the answer, numbers wise and Met fan sentimental value wise. Also, love the channel man! Thanks for the content.
Pete's "deal" should be relatively simple...Boras negotiated Matt Champan's mid-season $151 mil 6-year extension w/SF Giants...Apples-to-Apples in a Chapman vs Pete comparison, Pete "should" (??) command approximately 105 - 110% of Chapman's deal...or $166 to $174 mil for 6 years...Chapman is a better fielder and 3rd Baseman, and their BA is very close, but Pete's HRs, RBIs & OPS are substantially better and Pete is one year younger...Boras is agent for both, so it should be fairly straightforward

Also, I would give Walker 3 years, but more in the 17 mil range if it's for 3 years, need to reserve space to get Vlad Jr. next year. I also don't see the Mets turning down a deal to resign Iglesias for 8mil a year on a short term deal, when his BA is .300 and plays very solid defense, for a depth piece at least you'd be dumb not to.

It’s easy to understand when you aren’t emotional. Walker for 3 years doesn’t hamstring the Mets to Alonso for 6 years & still allows the Mets to have flexibility with its payroll for the future. Sign Walker for 3 years sign Joc Pederson as the DH for 1 year then you make a trade for a SP. If you or anyone wants to say well Walker & Vlad Jr is redundant no it’s not because you can move Walker to DH he would only have 2 years left on his contract. Then next off-season you will have a lot more salary coming off the books in a much better and deeper FA class then this year in both SP and the main target would be Vlad Jr. You want the Mets to have continued success & be like the Dodgers stop giving long term contracts to above average players and only hand out long term deals to legit superstars. Now going forward your core would be Lindor, Soto, Vlad Jr, Vientos, Nimmo, Alvarez and any of the younger guys who come up and prove themselves this season.

Alonso had the weakest season of his career in his free-agency year. Mediocre fielder and one dimensional hitter, prone to endless slumps. You think he'll get better after he gets paid? He should have signed 2 years ago. Boras screwed him. Walker is a great fielder and much more consistent hitter. Grab him.
