Fun story, about 20 years ago I went to a job interview right after school at Best Buy. That was the shortest interview I ever had. The manager came out, saw I was wearing jeans, and told me he couldn't hire me because they only wear khaki at Best Buy. This is not a joke, this actually happened to me. From that point on I pretty much just avoid Best Buy out of spite. To be fair though the hiring manager did tell me I could come back, but at the point I just said forget it.
I also applied for bestbuy back during covid times and had a phone interview. The lady was nice enough, but basically told me to go fuck myself. I haven't pursued employment there since
I walked into a Dick's Sporting Goods store in my early 20's. I went to check out the work out equipment on display. I wasn't bothering anyone or being loud. I did a couple pull ups on a machine, checked the maximum weight, fiddled with the adjustable positions, and a manager came over and told me not to touch the displays. I asked how I was supposed to choose which one to buy if I couldn't touch them and why there weren't any "Do not touch" signs. He grumbled and told me again the machines are display only and threatened to call security. I pulled $1,500 in cash out of my pocket, the cash I saved up and brought to buy a machine, waved it towards him, and walked out. I won't buy anything from those dicks. Best Buy? Didn't have the more expensive headphones on display. The clueless sales rep suggested Beats by Dre when I said I was looking for headphones with good clarity but a little extra bass. I bought them, tried them in the parking lot, thought they had way too much bass, and immediately returned them. I bought another suggested pair around $200, didn't like them, returned, bought another, returned, and was told I wasn't allowed to return anything else for several months or a year, can't recall. I've refused to shop there too ever since. Best buy your electronics elsewhere, Amazon doesn't whine about returns.

As a Minnesotan, Best Buy lore is so real. Fun facts, the Best Buy I go to had a play area for kids when I was like, 7 or 8, where they had color books, markers, ETC.
I have a very fond memory of my local Best Buy. I remember my brother took me there and I was 5 or 6, (23 now), and he let me pick out whatever PS2 game I wanted, so I picked out the game I wanted, and it led me to my favorite video game franchise, Ace Combat. In fact, the monitor I'm watching this video on came from Best Buy lol
Very wholesome and sweet 😊 I had good times at Best Buy myself. My dad brought me a beast of a PC. before that, Geek Squad installed a 2 TB SSD to my PlayStation 4
Please tell me it was Shattered Skies, because that's my favorite one in the series. Sitting Duck's soundtrack will always make a tingle in my spine feel like an F-4E Phantom divebombing at Mach-Jesus when that solo hits.
Dude the sad stories thing is so real. I used to work at SleepNumber, I exchanged kings for twins because someone's husband unexpectedly died, people would come in looking for a bed because they were paralyzed in a terrible accident, one guy talked to us for an hour about how he needed a bed because he was moving into his daughter's basement after his wife kicked him out...
As someone who has worked for Circuit City and also for every major US wireless carrier, your descriptions are so accurate I felt almost like I'm gonna have to clock in tomorrow. Lol. So many retail companies give the exact same experience.
Same lol. Best Buy fired me because I used my employee discount for myself but had my brother pay for it (even though the rule was you could use it with immediate family) because it was was a birthday gift (head unit for my car). So after that I went to circuit city right up until the time they went out of business. But everything you said was accurate. I also worked in mobile and hated it lol. Funny enough, they fired me thinking that I was trying to pull a fast one or something but knew the biggest culprits from theft at the store was the main LP guy, warehouse workers, and car audio 😂.
American retail at its finest. I have plenty of retail experience and plenty of hours of my life spent in best buy as a customer. Working there always seemed like it would be the longest day ever.
This is super accurate. I work at a Best Buy now, and I have a buddy that was gonna work for geek squad and had no clue that a cpu has drivers that need to be downloaded
Cpu doesnt need drivers, at best it would be a BIOS update for the motherboard. GPU is really the only other hardware component that needs up to date drivers though.
Worked at Best Buy for 10 years. Everything in this video and your last one are accurate. The phrase "Code Blue" is forever engrained in my brain. One thing missed was the elderly people who would get a phone call then ignore it, but they'd proceed to let it ring at full volume while at the desk instead of silencing the call.
Name's Ryan and I did in fact work both front (Consultation Agent) and back (Advanced Repair Agent) in Geek Squad. My first anxiety attack was being alone in the store late one Thursday surrounded by 40+ computers that were due to be picked up on Monday. Got some wild stories out of that place lol

I'd be interested in seeing the network closet at a best buy, the industrial style ceilings that are open, you can see all of the cables run to a centralized point, I'm sure the network switches are racks on racks in there. Also, 33:10 those AX5000 routers are pretty badass
I was recommended this video, and I gotta say, this is a clever way of using VR and "story time." Really clever. Its almost like you were there in the store. Really clever. Awesome video, I'm currently at 36:56 and I couldn't stop watching.

I remember buying my first PC and the original PREY at Best Buy 20+ years ago. They told me it was a "gaming PC", so I got home got everything set up only for the game to not work. I went back to Best Buy that night only to find out I needed a GPU..... oh and along with that I needed a better PSU as well. Long story short I got home it was summer, I was sweating profusely franticly trying to figure out how to install everything. I finally got every thing figured out and started playing PREY at 11pm. Thanks for your experiences with Best Buy. It is interesting that the Bonelab game has this much detail for inside a Best Buy store. Thanks for the video and take care.
Lol I liked the detailed description of Best Buy and the stories. Never been an employee, only a customer, so I had to guess what the areas I can't access look like. This is a replica of the one in my area but I'm taking notes for when I update it - like adding the metal detectors (which if I had a dollar for every time they DIDN'T kill the security tag causing the alarm to go off on me walking out....) Not sure who ported this over to Bonelabs but I'll be updating it on CS2 so they may have to do it again. I stupidly bought Boneworks instead of Bonelab because it was on sale not knowing anything about the games. Otherwise I'd try importing it to Bonelabs myself. I'll have to look into how to do it for Boneworks so then I can play it. I'm too cheap to spend $40 on Bonelabs and I never see it on sale on Steam.
