    What is a "blow mold" exactly? What is it made of and what period of time are they from? I decorate with Fall-stuff, but not tons for September (it is still really hot in NYC). October 1st I get everything Halloween out and then November 1 I take Halloween down and put out more Fall and a few Thanksgiving things...

      Blow molds are hollow plastic shapes that were formed using molds. Then lights are put inside them. Christmas ones are the most common and nostalgic. Google “Christmas blow molds” and you might recognize some from your childhood. They were most popular in the 50s and went through the 70s. They’re having a recent resurgence and Target is selling new versions ☺️ I live in Michigan and it’s still hot here but I’m wishing for fall so I decorate early. Thanks so much for sharing how you decorate and for asking such a great question!

    Emily you have some awesome vintage Halloween. We have been collecting vintage and new Halloween for many years. Last week I did several videos on my channel of some of our vintage Halloween and plan on doing one on our noise makers in the next few days. I did subscribe🖤👀🖤

    I also like the blow mold pumpkin buckets. I line them up and stack them on top of each other. I place battery operated lights in them. Some flash and some stay on continually. The also have timers so they go on and off without me having to do a thing but enjoy them

    I love and try to find the Halloween noise makers. My mother was born in 1925 and she had a few and when she passed away we sold them. Now I wish I would have kept them.
    The few I have I display in a small wooden tool carrier with a die cut black cat.

      Aw I understand that feeling of selling something from a loved one. When my Opa passed away we had a huge estate sale and I wish I kept more. Glad you were able to find some later on though ❤️

    I’ve been collecting the table top blow molds of pumpkin people since the early 1970s. The first ones I got for like .50. I was glad to see replicas of them made in more recent years

    My favorite was your skeleton cutout and the record albums. Growing up my mom would hang the skeleton cutout on our interior door. That is how I memorized the name of our bones. 😂 My mom also had a cat and witch cutout with crepe paper legs, but over time they got worn and tossed out. 😩 I have a vintage noise maker and my trick or treat jack o lantern bucket which I used in the 60’s.

    Great video! I found an Empire witch in a barn at an estate sale. The color is slightly faded but is cherished by me. I had to really clean out the insides because a lot of critters had made a home in there.

    A few years ago I was extremely lucky and found an old pulp lantern in my grandmother's attic. It is from the 1940s and it's the "cat on a fence". It's one of my prize possessions

    I used to own the tall ghost holding the pumpkin blow mold that you have. I bought it at a yard sale a few years ago for $2 and it had never been used! It still had a vintage K-mart price tag on it for $19.99 (think that was the price). Anyways, I eventually sold it on Marketplace because I just didn't have room to store it. Thank you for sharing this video of your cool finds and letting me live vicariously through you :)

    • @emilyretro
      @emilyretro  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh how cool, Becky! $2 is an amazing score!!! I’ve sold some blow molds too I actually sold a different ghost one a few years ago. If you score any more cheap yard sale blow molds you can sell them for big bucks 😉👻

    Thanks for sharing your collection. I agree, devil themed Halloween decor is usually more expensive. It's one of my favorite themes to collect, but I try to buy when the price is low enough 😅 Old German halloween die cuts are also big on my wishlist.

    Do you know how to distinguish vintage vs newer Halloween decorations? Something obvious like made in china tag then not really vintage but what if they don’t have mark or tag?

    Cracker Barrel has a vintage looking blow mold witch this year (2024) that lihts up and has a color changing crystal ball. Its 36 inches tall like the old blow mold witch made by Empire

    I love your videos but don't tell people what their value is. These items are so hard to find in the wild for serious collectors. And the prices on ebay make it hard for true collectors to be able to afford them. 😢 I have been a collector for yrs. And there are so many people that are resellers out there that true collectors can't find items anymore. It shouldn't be about reselling. I should be available for people that really love collecting. I live in fla. There are so many resellers I rarely find vintage halloween in Fla.
