How the hell is UConn 2014 not on this list? They were a 7 seed and won it all They are the second-highest seed to win the championship, plus played #2 Villanova, #3 Iowa State, #4 Michigan St, and #1 Florida to make it to the finals where they beat #8 Kentucky!! They had the hardest run to the championship, the total of all the seeds they played was 28, the next hardest run was in 1993 UNC with a total of 33.
They didn't really have many major wins. Their run was. 7: Seton Hall 15: Middle Tennessee 11: Gonzaga (Williams-Goss transferred this year and wasn't on that team btw) 1: Virginia And lost to 1: North Carolina Not the best wins.
In fact, in 1963, The Cincinnati Bearcats were looking for their 3rd straight National Championship. Cincinnati would have been the first team to 3-peat, but The Loyola Ramblers had other plans.
Two reasons they're not on the list 1) they only lost one game the entire season and 2) most people weren't aware of just how good they were due to lack of exposure nationally! Big bad Kentucky had plenty of that so only reason Texas Western was an underdog was because of who they were facing off against! Had more of the country been aware of the school now known as UTEP, they'd have realized UTEP could go toe to toe with the Cats
I agree only on the fact that just before the big east tournament that hade lost I think 3 of their last 4 and had a crazy schedule of like 11 games in 11 nights. May not be exactly correct but that seems like a Cinderella story to me. 😁
My dad always tells me the time he was on the N.C. State campus as a sophomore when they won the championship and the way he tells it sends shivers down my spine and I just wish I was there to enjoy it also
well, you got the #1 spot correct... 1983's NC State team is DEFINITELY the best Cinderella story in the history of March madness... if u had ANY other team in the #1 spot then I would've had a huge issue with ur list but u did get the #1 spot correct so good job on that lol
Loyola Chicago an 11 seed just made it to the Final Four this year. Incredible Cinderella story with the team and Sister Jean 👵. Still more to come as they play Michigan
Loyola Marymount and Texas Western are the only two that even deserve to be in the discussion for best Cinderella *stories*. Others might be bigger upsets but the death for LMU and the racial angle for Texas western make them easily the best stories
He's takin seeds like corn seeds right?....... mmmmmm love me some corn, sometimes I just sit out on the patio and watch it grow, ahhh good days good days
Not many people will agree, but Bradley going on to the Sweet 16 in 2006 was a Cinderella story just as ESPN. They beat #4 Kansas, then beat #3 Pittsburg, only to lose to #1 Memphis.
#1 & #2 is NAILED. I'd have Loyola Marymount at #3 and then VCU from 1st 4 to final 4 AT #4. Your list just shows that March Madness is the best sporting event in the world! Maybe only a 16 team College Football Playoff can be as good as March Madness is.
Opinion: Although a "Cinderella Story" in sports is generally defined as a special story of a team going far above and beyond their expectations, it's usually more focused on lesser-known schools in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament--for instance, Davidson, George Mason, Loyola Marymount, Florida Gulf Coast, Kent State, VCU, Wichita State (at the time), and Butler (prior to their back-to-back championship game appearances.) I suppose the Cinderella Stories of Villanova and NC State are different because they actually won it all. One might question why UConn's 2014 title run as a 7-seed isn't as special. My response would be that it wasn't as special because UConn had won the national championship three times within the 15 years prior to that season. As for Syracuse's 2016 Final Four run, their program has plenty of tournament success--prior to that season, they had 21 Sweet Sixteen appearances, 9 Elite Eight appearances, 5 Final Four appearances, 3 championship game appearances, and one National Championship. Also, Syracuse's run was not as difficult because they only had to beat a 7-seed, a 15-seed, an 11-seed, and a 1-seed.
And number 1 Loyala Chicago.......... Oh nvm this vid was made a while ago, why am I commenting on this? Idk cuz I'm talking to myself cuz no one's gonna see this
I know that Duke is the exact opposite of a Cinderella, but in 1991 they weren't the juggernaut they are today (in fact, they were actually a pretty well-liked team). They were huge underdogs against UNLV (who had destroyed them the year before) and, somehow, they pulled off a victory. Cinderella? Probably not. But, great upset? Yes. Perhaps you guys should do a great upsets video too.
Top ten march madness upsets of all time ex... Middle Tennessee state (15) upset (2) Michigan state and you should have included western texas run back in the 60s
