I like to watch the videos once for each, for to listen, then to learn grammar and pronunciation

    Interesting. The pronunciation is about the same in Swedish (Svedese) as in Italian, but we explain it in this way: BEFORE a single consonant, the VOWEL is long, before a double consonant, the vowel is short.
    However, the really difficult ones are the words you mentioned: Capelli vs cappelli, and Camina versus cammina. The differences here are extremely subtle for non-Italians like me. Capelli and cappelli would be the most difficult ones to distinguish between though, since they both should be expected to be on your head ...

    Very interesting. I didn’t realise that there are so many similar words that are pronounced in a slightly different way. This was a great help but to my ears there is a greater difference in the pronunciation of the preceding vowel than the doubled letters. I have read through the comments and 5 or 6 others have made a similar observation. You suggest a slight pause between the consonants. To me it is rather like a bounce. Imagine a bouncing ball where you pronounce the letter on the way down, then again on the way up. Perhaps it can be seen as pronouncing half the letter on the way down and the second half on the way up, in a rhythmical manor. Not sure if that image helps anyone.

  • @BakerVS
    @BakerVS ปีที่แล้ว +6

    It's interesting that you don't both pronounce the double letters the same way. He as a native speaker is more subtle, whereas you as someone who had to learn the difference, are much more deliberate in marking the double letters.

    Could you explain, at some stage in your videos, the origins of ‘lei’ and the informal ‘Tu.? If possible. Thank you both in advance. Love your videos❤❤

    • @ariolevrero3042
      @ariolevrero3042 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Allow me to disclose some content in advance. There is something seldom found in explanations about such topic, maybe because even native Italian speakers are generally no longer aware of it: 'lei' (lit. 'she') began in the Renaissance as a shortcut to styles like 'Vostra Signoria/Vostra Grazia/Vostra Eccellenza etc.' (Your Lordship/Your Grace/Your Excellency etc.) all of whom are feminine nouns in Italian. So, 'lei' is a direct offspring of 'voi', and a somewhat convoluted way of addressing an individual by one of their alleged attributes.
      Both forms ('voi' and 'lei') coexisted, in hierarchical order (whereas 'lei' was the most formal), until early 20th century, when 'voi' gradually began to be perceived as oldish and superfluous, especially in the North; later attempt by the fascist regime to cancel 'lei' by revamping 'voi' (on the ground that 'lei' would be a corrupt liberal/bourgeois way of speaking) determined the almost utter vanishing of 'voi' after WW2. But you still can hear it sometimes in the South, though not at an official level.
      Hope it helps.

    In Tuscany, and I believe in "proper" Italian, the s in casa is the same as the s in cassa (esse sorda, as in English hiss or this), only shorter; while in rosa, the s is not only shorter, but also changes to a z sound (esse sonora, as in English his or quiz!). Lots of Italians do, however, pronounce casa as caza...

    • @EasyItalian

      This is the reason why nowadays, for some words precisely like 'casa', both pronunciations are accepted - if you look it up, in most dictionaries you'll find both pronunciations. 😊

    La pronuncia delle doppie fino a qualche decina di anni fa risultava difficile non solo per gli stranieri ma anche per gli stessi italiani del Nord Italia, dato che in quasi tutte le lingue regionali/dialetti del nord le doppie sono rare o non esistono proprio, e in quell'epoca i dialetti erano ancora prevalenti rispetto alla lingua italiana. Per esempio in trentino (ma non solo) mamma si dice "mama", nonno si dice "nono", anni diventa "ani", e ancora adesso succede che qualche persona anziana sbagli usando la pronuncia dialettale anche parlando in italiano.

      In italiano la E ha due suoni: aperta e chiusa. Ogni E in ogni parola ha un solo suono corretto tra i due: per esempio, in “bene” la prima E ha il suono aperto, mentre la seconda ha il suono chiuso. Invertire i suoni è una pronuncia sbagliata. La regola precisa per il suono giusto non esiste, però una E che è nella sillaba con l’accento tonico può essere aperta o chiusa, mentre le altre sono solo chiuse. Nota: in alcuni accenti regionali il suono può cambiare rispetto alla lingua standard.

    La pausa in realtà viene fatta non fra le due T, ma prima delle due T.
    Cioè, si tratta non tanto di raddoppiare la consonante, ma di bloccare con una piccola pausa la pronuncia della vocale che precede le due consonanti. Questo soprattutto quando la consonante da raddoppiare è sorda e quindi, non avendo un suono è impossibile da raddoppiare.

    Non capisco come fa ad essere difficile pronunciare 2 lettere per gli stranieri. Anche se bisogna dire che la maggior parte delle lingue non ha la doppia consonante, e quando c'è, ne pronuncia una sola! (Es. L'inglese)

    • @Hastdupech8509
      @Hastdupech8509 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gli italiani fanno moltissima fatica con le vocali lunghe dell'inglese, perché per noi non sono fonologiche, ovvero non servono a distinguere i significati delle parole da sole. Infatti la maggior parte di noi manco è consapevole dell'allungamento prima di una geminata, proprio non ce ne rendiamo conto. Per cui non sappiamo come allungare certe vocali a comando né le percepiamo all'inizio nello studio di lingue che se ne servono.
