You don't chase the cats now. Just hold the raw salmon/cod and let them come to you until it says "Tame"

I spent ages trying to put a cat in a boat so I could come back later with more fish. Because I only had one. When I got it in the boat i gave it my only fish and it tamed.. all that boat effort..

cats also scare phantoms & have a chance of giving gifts, which can be leather, string, feathers, raw chicken, rabbit hide, rabbit's foot, phantom membrane, & rotten flesh [phantom membrane is the only item that has a different chance (lower chance) of being the gift]

i found an easier way to not get it to run away, at least what i’m playing on (xbox) if you pause the game the cat will act like your not there and it’ll get super close just unpause and feed it
