"You've created an environment where people feel like they have to go to you for everything they're extremely dependent."
I understand now that a micromanager makes a vicious cycle. Thank you so much for sharing.

Sometimes they scare into being dependent on them.

This was an excellent and easy to understand definition of micromanaging. Proper delegation and trusting in the ability of the team members helps.

My micromanager picks up office mail!! She’s a CEO but wanted the mail to be delivered to a mail box close to her home so she can pick it up. She openly has said there’s no one on her team that can write a letter. She rewrites everyone’s work and is involved in everyone’s work. I’ve just stopped trying because she will change everything I do so there’s no point. She will say to me “I know you already do this but can you make sure to do this and this??” She always asks me to do things that I already know I need to do. She also doesn’t believe in staff development.

It implies a failure to understand priorities and a failure to be objective. If you gave a micromanager a blind taste test and told them that Item 1 was made with the standard process and Item 2 was made with an abbreviated process, they'd truly believe Item 1 tasted better...even if the items were secretly switched.

Yuuuup. I agree with you on this one for sure. Micromanagers have a lot of issues ranging from ego, trust, insecurity. It just depends on the person. Hopefully by making people aware though we can stop some of it from continuing. Some people are just not self aware at all.
