The Death of PoE 3.24 Necropolis League is Heartbreaking

  • The latest Path of Exile 1 expansion, Necropolis, is among the lowest player retention leagues of all time, only surpassed by Archnemesis in unpopularity at this point in the update. What went wrong with this expansive Path of Exile patch, why am I sad about it, and what can be done in the future by both the POE community and the game developers, Grinding Gear Games?

Are we really not gonna talk about how shitty Trials of the Ancestrals was?
      Like.. who did that thing?
And what about lake of kalandra? Experiencing league EVERY 16 maps? wow such gameplay
Or what about sanctum?: If you play any build with low damage, with ramp up time or even worse combination of these, you loose, survivability doesnt matter.
I really didnt enjoy that league with my poison dominating blow guardian.
      Like who makes theese leagues?
      What about release of harvest?
How many players seriously craft? Some started, but some dont. Is low efford league really worse than no league? And you can still craft here.
And you dont even need specific build for this league. For the first time in long time.
Finaly you can play whatever you want, experience league every single map, get some random drops and dont have much increased difficulty.
Its the best league we could hope for. Finaly something on the side lines that doesnt change much, but adds in a bit of its flavour.
BTW I also ignore crafting, but my friend barely knows english, didnt watch any guides and was able to create great items, so its clearly not that complicated.
The league itself wont make you much money unlike previous leagues, so its not that impactfull, but its ok. There are other leagues around which I didnt master yet, so still plenty of things to do.

Coffins needed to be stackable or something because once i filled my stash its easier to just quit. I think there's one other thing you didn't mention, the new league mechanic made levelling and mapping quite a bit harder than it usually is. To people who know the game inside out and have time to spend that's not an issue. As a more casual player I found that where before I could just organically scale my way through to red maps and clearing my atlas this time round my same build as usual was really starting to stall out even in the early red maps and finishing the later ones was painful and time consuming.
It also ends up as a self-reinforcing misery loop, if your build isn't keeping up you die more, meaning your progress goes even more slowly, meaning you are stuck in early maps unable to earn any currency to fix your build.
Having finally come through that though the economy is now dead, I spent an hour yesterday trying to buy stacks of scarabs and only got a single reply. The sad thing is it's just going to get worse as the few people actually bothering to reply burn through their stock.

Dude the first time I got blasted in the campaign this league i was shocked. I haven't played a ton of poe, but breezing through the campaign was always doable.
On a related note, the difficulty to reward ratio is screwed by the lantern when you're in early maps. You don't start seeing a payoff from the increased difficulty until you're in 8 mod corrupted t16's/t17. So you've got a whole new level of incredibly rewarding and equally difficult t17's that you can't get into until you slog through a bunch of inefficient farming riddled with surprise deaths and random god tier rare mobs.

Archnemesis was increadibly difficult and it didnt had that terrible retention. Last league was even harder if you were juicing... And this league is not even that difficult. One of the easiest leagues in recent memory. Hey, even strongboxes with their ice novas on -max res maps are more dangerous than some 200% movement speed monster.

You don't have to use all the grave slots but you better if you want a good end game item. Well, a chance at one since you can get 5 great stats and one complete trash one and have fun starting over. The market can and would adjust for insane currency drops, if EVERYONE can get crazy currency and drops, that means everyone can get good endgame builds and actually do content, rather than spending an eternity trying to grind for small upgrades. It all boils down to 1 thing, which is the change in QA testing. As companies shift to automated testing we will begin to see a lot more room for exploitation.
The devs themselves are unable to consider all of the possible interactions due to so many mechanics and those same devs will build the automation tools for testing. Games in particular need to move back to heavy manual QA testing.
GGG should invite selected players from the top 1% to intensive in house bug bashes for discovering exploits and unintended interactions before league launch.

They won't do that. The 1% of the playerbase wants to play league launch and stream it. I don't see why we need to be sad? This was a pretty much absolutely horrible league. Horrible retention numbers, and hopefully low sales, show the devs that we are totally unhappy about it.
There is nothing "we" need to do, the devs messed this up pretty hard and prioritized horribly, simply said: make a better game / league and we will have much better retention numbers.
I don't like being apologetic towards the devs and blaming this on "us, the players" for not enjoying it.
You mention a lot about income and why people skip out, I think you miss 2 main glaring issues here:
    - grave crafting with more slots than storage, bad ui, and optimal requires excel
    - forced league mechanic
For me, those 2 were the only reason I stopped playing after reaching lvl90 or so, and I'm not sad I did. Also first league I didn't buy anything, hopefully this sends the message to the devs: we don't want this.

I have had a COMPLETELY different experience. My guildmates and I started out as a group ssf setup. We spent a month just doing our own thing. there was zero fear of FOMO, we found the necropolis mechanic to be the best thing when it comes to making some of the craziest rares in an SSF setting. Yes we all found it to be clunky and tedious, but it was worth the awesome rares at the end. We shared our graves, helped each other out, and spent a wopping +1 month before we could successfully do a T17 and unlock 5 slot map device (which ofc we didnt use because come on, its ssf we cant invest that heavily).
Then after a month or so things started dying down (as usual) and I swapped over to trade because I had a neat build idea I wanted to test out. I was happy as someone with little money on trade to be able to so easily afford T0 uniques. Hell yeah I'll take that HH for 10 divs. DOD for 20 div lets gooo! It has been an awsome league to make off-meta characters because the rares are soo strong, and T0s are soo accessible to soo many players. I thought the trade economy this league was awesome as someone who joined late and wanted to get hands on a HH.
I ended up getting an almost BIS claw for 4 div which would otherwise be 50 div or so. I think people need to take a break if all they feel is anger at someone else who can farm more T0s than them.
The main cons are just how lame it feels to get all T1 rares (necro is basically a printing machine), the clunkyness of the gravecrafting process, and maybe some of the scarab stuff being soo balanced around group play.
But as someone who just wants to have a good time this league has been a blast.

GGG has been on a roll lately with the base game. I agree, this is the worst league in a while. Definitely found crucible kinda meh (especially the mechanic) but for me the league mechanics have just been spice, not the main course. T17s have been a sort of road block for me that I'm unwilling (or too lazy/burnt out) to deal with. That said, I wouldn't be all doom and gloom...it was INEVITBABLE that we had a whiplash effect following affliction league (some people's favorite all time) and the likelyhood it would be negative was high. However, there are self-imposed damages by GGG (just too many economy and game breaking bugs that were extremely high profile resulting in the haves and have nots). These things happen when a company is WILLING to experiment as GGG does. I wouldn't have them change that part for ANYTHING. The best band in the world doesn't go into the studio and come out with the best song or album EVERY single time...and that's okay. This was a bigger slip up than that, but it's not the first, nor the worst. The archnemesis debacle was far worse imo, and they rebounded since then. I just wish they'd look at the div/hr meta and cut the head off the snake that is MF (or at least cap it to regulate just how much they want in the game and make that semi-achievable through various means be it gear, passives, atlas tree).

I think the issue is multiple folds, and you hit on one of them. The FOMO that occurs for the players around the middle layer of skill level, where they miss out on strategies found by the upper layer of players, so they get upset and quit.
But I think issues also occur in both the lower layers AND upper layers as well. The inability to opt out of Lantern of Arimor meant higher difficulty across the board. PoE is already a difficult game, and adding another layer of modifiers to every zone meant increasing the skill floor required to enjoy the game at a comfortable pace, and this resulted in the more casual players struggle a lot more than usual, so they quit.
In addition, the league does not really add anything new in terms of builds. All we get is a few new Transfigured gems. The crafting system does not add new builds, it only makes upgrading existing builds easier. Compare this to Affliction that added 3 Affliction Ascendancies that opened up a whole bunch of new builds thanks to new Spectres, trinkets, and tinctures, build creativity got expanded and allowed people who likes to make multiple builds to try out many new builds available. Necropolis does not really do this, so the endgame became stale for a lot of the upper layer players who makes creative builds. This is proven by the number of build types that are currently meta vs last league. This league we have Archmage and DD. Last league we had a bunch of poison builds, Hydra Spectre, Chieftain CWStunned, DD, Tornado Shot, Penance Brand, Storm Brand, Shockwave Totem, and many others that I likely missed.
TLDR My point is, all the skill brackets/layers of players got hit by some type of issue in this league, which resulted in the worst retention the game has ever had, despite the game itself overall is still in a pretty good state IMO (can't get worse than Kalandra, honestly)

    >coffins and alflames not stacking
    >League on Atlas tree (making it somewhat mandatory = points used on them). If they do this again, they should put the nodes near the start and should just change how we approach the mechanic.
    Core Game
    >Scarabs are overwhelming(too many types), should have a higher chance to get X scarab on X mechanic if fully invested on the atlas tree(notable nodes add +% chance drop of X scarab on X mechanic).
    >Scarab nodes became mandatory
    >Bring back Veiled Chaos Orb
    >current version of omniscience and ashes should be on the non-uber and the unnerfed version on Ubers

Scarabs are cheaper than even, most of them are under 1c and some strategies only require 1.
For example I did betrayal this league. You only NEED 1 scarab, while second makes it it bit faster.
I am able to get catarina ready under 7 maps (sometimes faster). Each map is about 3min including safehouses and catarina fight.
From my data, It seems, there is 1/3 of a chance to drop veiled chaos which is 13div.
So in practice, you need 7X3=21 maps on average to drop veiled chaos. If each takes 3 min, its a bit over an hour. I do this with red altas which give additional loot, the estimated earnings are 15 div/h.
Even if you do 1 map in 12 minutes, you can make 15 divines after a 4 hours. This would put even an absolute noob at over 3div/h. With those 15 divines you can buy all scarabs you will ever want.
So if you feel like you are poor becouse you are not meta player, the problem is not that you are not able to invest, its that you are eighter not knowledgable enough to make decent money, or too lazy to get your scarabs.
This is trading game, so if you need scarabs, buy them. You can buy them in bulk if you have the money.
If you refuse, there is a way to customize your atlast to drop more scarabs and increase chances to drop the ones you need, so there is not really a reason to not use scarabs.

For me, the reason why this league is so draining to play is because most of everything that we can do necropolis, we can do in standard. Sure we can craft some cool new mods, but not many people use the new mods. And once created, is never touched. The only difference is meatsack farming, but still, it doesn’t really deviate from standard play style when we’re just scarab farming using the same farming strat. So then to me, the question is, why even play necropolis when we can play standard?
Also, I really dislike Poe attitude stemming from Jonathon’s response in the interview since the league start about the changes they are making, “Just deal with it.” Of course we would have to just deal with it, but with that response, to me that speculates into the fact that they care less about the community than ever before. This league seems to uphold that support even more for me.

Also, when POE2's director is SOOOO inundated with his job that he can't even remember the name of affliction league in interviews (granted he's bad with names) it shows the disconnect between the two teams. Therefore, a LOT of recent things regarding POE1 will vary WILDLY to POE2. Some of the things that won't? The fantastic artwork being put in more recently, the fine voice-overs and music. However, Jonathan has his own job to tackle, and while Neon DOES work on POE2's bosses primarily, it would appear many of the things that differentiate the two are planned selling points for POE2 (at least that's the vibe i get from the media tour Jonathan has been on with interviews conducted by many content creators).

Life just changes drastically after you get a mageblood or some super powerful crafted item. But that's not for all, which is very sad. In my opinion, everyone should be able to afford a great build at one point in a league, no matter how many hours they are playing a day. I believe that can be fixed by massively diluting the skill choices, the builds. If over 80% of the skills would be as good as detonate dead for example, prices would stagnate at an affordable cap.
The league itself? I don't mind it, I liked it, but I finished the challenges and now I just sit and watch the walls hoping to be selected for poe2 alpha.

The build is average speed, nothing you wont be able to do with any build.
      How did I do that?
Learned how to do betrayal, used about 40 atlas points for betrayal and 2 scarabs each under 1c.
Pretty high end stuff, you know. Yeah you are never gonna measure up to us 1% of players.

I agree with the sentiment, but I highly disagree with your solution. I think PoE's strength is the sheer amount of variety. With a large variety of options GGG can buff or nerf skills from one league to the next to change the meta and feel.
I play with a group of players that are easily in the top 1 percent of players, and one thing that they've said repeatedly is to focus builds to do the content you enjoy, not to try and make a builds that does it all.
A focused builds will cost a fraction of a do it all build.
I think the real solution is for GGG to explain how older mechanics work in game do players can utilize them effectively

Before the league even started I was excited because the grave crafting seemed amazing and the new scarabs were gonna be huge and in short the scarabs were an amazing change that I loved, but the crafting side of things because I was huge into actually making my own gear a bunch of the time previous leagues this "Grave crafting" option was very difficult to get into and was almost impossible to actually utilize unless you min/maxed it to 10000% potential for each modifier you want essentially. The fact you need 4 quad tabs to hold all the extra coffins because GGG thought it was a good idea to make different ilvl coffins instead of stackable "currency" like coffins the same ilvl (or no ilvl) was just a huge turn off all together. Also I was looking forward to doing some blighted and essence farming, but they ruined that as well by making Blighted stack deck drops only give 1 card each instead of scaling with tier of map giving more the higher the tier (white/yellow/red) which heavily nerfed running blighted maps and then proceeded to nerf essence farming in a sense of removing the quick farms for mid-high tier essences. While scarabs fixed some of these issues it didn't give me the value of the game I was enjoying before the impact to keep me playing this league. The fact that in my first few days of doing maps and blighted maps (11-16 tier) I got 2 whole divine orb drops and that is it was depressing enough to say the least because I wasn't running the meta for doing the forced league mechanic and wasn't running the atlas passives to run the meta with the meta scarabs too I missed out before they patched all the good money makers day one.
    Final thoughts?
This league is 100% strictly made only for Solo-Self-Found characters and feels like you need to play like one to enjoy the game.

Sounds to me that there were no programmer with enough game mechanic knowledge to take over after Mark Roberts became game director and no longer have time to keep track of all system interactions so exponential exploits just run rampant. And the "1% of players find fun exploit, ggg nerf exploit, 1% keep the profits, 100% lose the fun." hurts the game a lot.

I am still enjoying it, but this is my second league, so I am largely just enjoying PoE for PoE, not Necropolis.
My gripes largely revolve around everything that falls under the league mechanic having decent base ideas, being just a bit off and undercooked. In particular, not enough attention was paid to how tedious the mechanics were or the storage space requirements.
The lantern is fiddily and is a constant speedbump to getting the the Action in the action rpg. The allflame section of the locker is pitifully small, and often tedious to find the one you are looking for. I think having a level on the allflame was a mistake. Just let it use the base level of the area, or a constant modifier thereof for a given allflame type (like say the Tattoo one is always +2 to area level or something). The icons could use a little work too, they have different colors but otherwise seem mostly indistinguishable. Good graphic design work there could have really streamlined finding the one you wanted and getting it applied. As is, it pushes you to not engage with the mechanic unless there is something you really need to blank out.
The storage space in the necropolis locker for allflames and corpses is just pitifully small. Each corpse has too many variables, which then means its basically impossible to have a design that lets them stack. Anytime we get to having more than 2 tabs just to hold the items from one league's mechanics, it has gone too far.
Gravecrafting is cool, but there was no need for the positional requirements, the shear amount of clicks to craft something is just insane, and the positioning requirements mean you need multiple third party websites to really approach anything ideal.
Then we walk back a step to acquiring the corpses in the first place, trading for corpses is just tedium incarnate. There was already a bit of a spotlight on the trade system that was highlighted by Last Epoch's release, they added some QoL updates that moved in the right direction, then threw us back down the stairs with corpse acquisition. As mentioned earlier, corpses should have had less variables (no creature type, no positional junk) to make them simpler to search for.
I understand that instant buyout is not something they want for all items, but we definitely need it for the most traded items like currency exchanges, scarabs, maps, and in this league, corpses.
T17 maps needed more time to cook. The difficulty jump from T16s for even just the normal/magic/rares is a bit extreme. My gut is that the T17 modifier pool should have been separate, like an locked implicit on those maps, and allow the player to run them as white/blue/yellow/red and reroll for the explicit modifiers just like all the other map tiers. Just one of those modifiers is silly enough.
I am mostly ambivalent to the entire hot-fix discussion. I am still not to the point in knowledge/skill where I would likely be able to engage with these strats very much anyway. I can understand the feelings from both camps though. If I had to have a position, I think I am of the opinion that for most things, the economy can figure it out. The two things I probably would have supported changes for were the devoted mod fishing strategies and the socket exploit. I think anyone with any amount of experience in the game could see that neither of those would have been intended game functions. If the 20K mobs thing had server implications, thats fine to hit too, but say as much when you fix it. Everything else, I would say to punt to next season.

I loved this league so far and still enjoy running all sorts of strats, other than T17 (cause I really don't like the idea of running them in the first place, needs balance adjustments for sure!):
+ Got 3 Atlas Trees for insane customizability of your endgame experience, allowing strat swapping without issue to not become bored by a single strat
+ Map Device Crafts being all available and the Scarab overwhaul enable new types of farming strats, massively changing the gameplay experience (adding accessable imbued crafts on the map device, forced bosses in harvests, delirium, breach etc.)
+ The market crashing big time, which allows players that never could afford specific high end uniques or even some amazing rare gear to buy those for cheap, like HH, Mageblood or even stuff like an Ele Damage Bow with incredible stat rolls
+ Allflame Embers are a great idea to introduce back things like Omens, Tattoos and so on. I would love to see them incorporated in some way in the future
    - I did not like the idea of Corpse Crafting at all, and never really engaged with it. Corpses were strictly to be sold for profit, or ignored (if I could ignore them, they sometimes block the view of my Shrines, other loot and so on...)
    - I hated the idea of beating a T17 map to unlock the 5th Map Device Slot, most players with mediocre builds couldn't do it, so they had to pay a service or give up on a lot of juicing power, now that Scarabs are much more impactful. I wish the 5th slot (or maybe even all map device slots) would unlock naturally with atlas progression, so you get your 5th slot by the time you finish all of the atlas maps (not even the objectives, I would say, just all non-unique maps done once)
    - A lot of crazy exploitable synergies that were fixed before other players could abuse them felt bad, but was also to be expected once they were known about, but could have been prevented somewhat with just some Foresight from GGG (like the Gull Exp Shrine Abuse, that Lesser Shrine Exploit was wholly preventable).
    (edit) About T17 balance:
+ New bosses and monsters in new maps are always exciting, and they also have their own special drops in the form of Uber Boss Fragments, making them worth running at high Quant/Qual/Difficulty to drop as many fragments as possible.
    - Most strategies involving maps are currently better done on T17 maps than "regular" maps, which is fine if the difference in rewards is not too large, but both the rewards and difficulty are incomparibly larger, which includes rewards from most juicing strategies. I think T17's should work more like Conqueror or Guardian Maps, where they are not defined as much by what strategy you run, but mostly definied by the special rewards you can get ONLY from those maps. These rewards should then scale with difficulty the most.
    - T17's are too rough for most builds to beat, which would be fine if they were ONLY gatekeeping from Uber Pinnacle Bosses, but currently they are a requirement to unlock the 5th Map Slot. That should not be the case, and reworked.
= T17's should be easier to drop, easier to beat and less rewarding in general, but with the potential to roll them to become very rewarding and with their own unique drop pools, incomparable to regular maps. It may be considerable to not allow Scarabs being used for them, but keeping the more multipliers on them for Currency and Map drops. It should be allowed to run them white, if GGG wanted to keep them as the 5th Slot unlocker, and the bosses should then baseline drop 1 fragment always, at least.

    When is the next league?

  • @TirpitzLuminare
    @TirpitzLuminare 20 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

    Rant incoming...
This is the most fun in a league I've had in years. The Atlas changes alone are worth playing. In order to achieve this I simply don't visit Reddit, I don't visit the official forums, I pretty much stay away from 80% of PoE content creators, and I don't give a damn about FOMO. I refuse to let other peoples negative opinions change how I feel about the game while I am having an absolute blast. This game is full of Debbie the Downers...
Every little thing in this game has been getting blown out of proportion, and it's been getting increasingly worse for a few years now. Sure, people abused some stuff that was unintended and made loads of currency. How is this different from any other league in the past? What, you actually heard about it this time? There will always be people that make more money than you. If you don't have 12+ hours a day to play you will never come close to what they do. So don't concern yourself with it. Every-single-league there is something game breaking that is exploited for insane currency gains. Most the time you simply never hear about it. There are times where a single method goes publicly unknown for multiple leagues that is exploited to print mirrors!
There are always many ways to make currency in every league. You don't always need to do "the thing" people are doing to get rich. Especially if you don't have the build power to do "the thing". My buddy made a really good comparison. Back in the gold rush days the people who made the most money weren't the miners finding the gold. It was the dude selling shovels. So sell the damn shovels and buy your HH and MB if that's what you want. That's what I did.
12:02 - This actually made me laugh out loud. PoE content creators have been making content based on Chaos, Exalt or Divines per hours for years, this isn't a new thing in the slightest. I'm talking even back in 2013 content creators... So the people who created the problem, are now complaining about it? Give me a break...
Does PoE have issues? Yeah. Are there major changes happening? Yup. Does the 100% acquisition by Tencent concern me? Absolutely. How about not seeing or hearing from Chris Wilson anymore... That really bums me out. What about the bugs, and unbalanced content? Yeah, they really need to test more internally.
All that being said I've been playing since closed beta, and GGG has *Never* let me down yet. So until they do, I will continue to play, love and support this game. I think more people should do the same, and stop worrying what other people are doing and just focus on their own progress.
I honestly don't give a damn what Fubgun, Cutedog or Grimro are doing to break the game and make insane currency. I have a full time job, family and other actual responsibilities. Do I have FOMO about bugged items that will probably be reverted? No, not even a little bit. If either of those things make you quit the game, you may want to re-think why you're even playing PoE, or any game for that matter.
The real FOMO for people will come when they realize they didn't' make god-tier items in the GY after the league ends. Not the bugged 6-link Squire.
Just my two cents on the topic.

The league mechanic is awful, why do you need outside tools to use it and optimize the league mechanic. Another thing people were "abusing" intended game mechanics that were so unbalanced FOMO hit a lot of people, I dipped too because when I tried to juice it was already fixed but people already were sitting on mirrors of currency, etc. This league was the biggest mess ever.
Game is not that fun anymore in that state, just give us PoE 2 without all that nonsense

I started the league with a really strong build (holy relic necro) and had the luck of a getting divine mod + rats on a map with strong boxes specced. I got 30 divines. League was going great.

Then, almost out of nowhere it dawned on me I had no goals to accomplish that I cared about.

So a week in I just stopped playing. I needed a break and I needed something new. I love PoE but sometimes time apart makes the heart grow fonder. I'll probably skip my first league ever next league and come back with a renewed excitement for either 3.25 or PoE2 beta.

My problem with Necropolis was the nerf to the base drop rate. I got to pinnacles but even having a full atlas I just couldn't sustain red maps. Normally I can get 4-5 divine orbs by the time I finish maps and that's enough to get started on gear. This league, I didn't get a single divine drop at all, and at one point I ran out of chaos because they weren't dropped. Like the base drop rate was through the floor and alch and go wasn't working.
I hit 60 hours play time on my character, and I was still using rares from acts, even id'ing rares got me nothing, no drops, can't trade. I finally managed to scrape together the bear essentials for my build and necrocrafted a very good t1 bow, but then because of the currency flood, everything was too expensive and nothing was dropping.
And then all the exploits happened. Like, GGG put in a lot of hard work, but they don't understand their game these like "full stack div cards" scarabs are broken, and GGG didn't realise by how much? Like anyone who plays the game at a high level would say "well that's too much". The rare devotions, they just made them super rare, still no issue for the rich people because they would just burn maps to force it.
With all of the power creep over the last 5 years, and constantly buffing the monsters but not fixing the exponential damage combinations, GGG has lost control over the balance of their game and need to go back to the spreadsheets.

    1. The best crafts with the introduced mechanic required corpses that were gated behind ludicrous end-game content and obfuscated from players
    2. The drop rates of crucial corpses (e.g. +50 mod tier) were way below sustain. In other words, you couldn't SSF your way to great gear without blasting 40 maps or more an hour
2b. While at least 1 corpse monster would spawn guaranteed per map, the number was completely down to luck. Sometimes there'd be 15+, other maps just the 1
2c. There was no way to trade corpses in. Unlike so many previous league mechanics, you couldn't three-to-one or five-to-one corpses at the vendor for a random one
    3. The sheer amount of bugs was... disturbing. It seemed a new exploit was found every day, which only benefits those already far ahead and able to abuse it until the following patch
3b. People (such as myself) have had items bricked. One of many issues with the necropolis was caused by the mirror and extra craft corpses removing sockets when combined
    4. With the market being ruined, it became hard for players to jump-start their builds since nothing that dropped for them had any trade value
    5. Without the introduction of a new end-game combat mechanic or minigame, it felt like playing standard

The main problem that I've had with this league is that it's not meant to be a PoE 1 league. The corpses are such a tedious thing to trade for or keep in your stash, they really highlight the need for an automated marketplace.

I've been playing in a private league for a few leagues now. I play with my friends and share items and our builds are dictated by what we looted. What stopped most of us was the nerf midleague. We were seeing streamer do a strategy and by the time we replicate it (for example to get fracture base in Vaal Temple) it was nerfed. We were slowly building characters to do tormented meatsac strat to get it nerfed by the time we had the ability to do it.
i think it was necessary but it didn't feel good to us and most of us left out. I like a lots of changes from this league but I guess with all that much changes it was doomed to be messy and creating frustration.

I'm actually still playing. And I like graveyard crafting - I think the planning is engaging, and I have access to things I never have before.
That said, there is one thing that has felt bad to me - I have had a much harder time accumulating currency than I normally do. At times it has felt like a treadmill with a carrot out of reach.
I'm not sure if it's from the scarab changes overall hurting alch and go, or devaluing mid tier drops because high end farming is better, or low retention means oversupply. Probably a mix
Ironically, everything is a cheaper than previous leagues, so it's not a real problem...but it feels sadge to play for a few hours and look at my currency tab and not be able to tell a difference.
I get the whole fun > div per hour thing, but that only sustains me for a few weeks. Once I get to 4 voidstones I want a goal - mageblood usually. And it's actually felt harder to pursue, even if it wasn't, because drops felt low and trading felt lower.
    My 2 cents

As an beginner-intermediate player of PoE (600h ish, 7+ leagues) currently doing sherpa for my newbie friend (60h, 2 leagues) the whole "knowing which enemy does what and apply the adequate modifiers" was just too much (also non opt-out). I told him to auto-click confirm because the game did a decent job at creating an OK combination. I also told him to ignore graveyard because that crafting was way too time consuming vs. learning the other crafting (beast, fossils, essences, fractured, bench, harvest)

i for one am glad the prices of t0s plummeted. thats the first time i could afford a mageblood just by farming the usual suspects, harvest, essences and strongboxes. i wasnt fast enough to use the exploits nor my build was strong enough to clear t17s. other than t17 being stupidly overtuned and uber drops being so hard to acquire, i dont get why casual players are so upset. we casuals never do those types of content anyway.

My biggest issue I had this league as someone who sees chaos and divine orbs as "oh neat i can go buy this upgrade that i haven't crafted yet that keeps me from doing more content" is t17 maps being more difficult then the content that came after it.
The "every pack as a random modifier" is frustrating as its flashbacks to buildabear league and it made me swap builds from what I had planned to play with a close ranged build to screen wide clear just so that I don't get randomly blased apart because i forgot to move the +proj from the goatman again.
I play poe to try out idea's i come up with and craft gear where possible and typically get to ubers after a month of playing 4-5 hours a day which is slow yes but my trade is minimal and t16's is like day 3 still and typically run like 5-10 builds in a league I enjoy.
But this league? 2 builds and the 2nd one I just can't get myself to finish like on 1 hand we have the league where its possible to make t1 tier gear at a pretty decent rate which I love but the other hand the amount of "oh shit" or "oh storage is full AGAIN" moments that interrupt my enjoyment were a lot higher so far.
I have yet to do all challenges and honestly getting the desire to do them is hard yet I want to get them done but this league it feels more like a chore then a "oh we can check this off my list of things to do along build 6-7's path to 100"
If it was just corpses and allflames with no storage limit I would have loved this league a LOT more then I do currently.

I've done two ~1 mirror investment builds this league, probably done playing as of now
    1. Grave crafting is beyond tedious, devoting multiple tabs to storage of league items is absurd
    2. The change to Veiled orbs ruined ~medium tier crafting. Boots are ass now, finishing rings is ass now
    3. Betrayal is dead. Safehouse rewards are shit, Catarina drops fuck all, veiled orbs are too rare
    4. Randomly bricking a map because the lantern threw 90% evade chance on a monster is AIDS
    5. The league was bricked in week 1 by all of the exploits. People love to dismiss the concerns of so-called "bad" players who are (rightfully) annoyed at seeing ~5% of the playerbase abuse mechanics for a week to become hyper wealthy, watching the mechanics get patched, and seeing the ladder pulled up behind the players who already got their wealth. They are told "just ignore that though, that doesn't matter to your own gameplay!" but anyone who understands what a market is knows this is bullshit. The thousands of divines and huge amount of uniques printed in week 1 set the course for the economy of the whole league. The proof that this was bullshit was how there was a furious buying spree on unique items when GGG announced the hotfix that would nerf the divine printing method using the lantern mod by just throwing maps into the device over and over. Telling players who perhaps took more than 8 hours to reach t16s that this doesn't have an effect on them is like telling someone they should be unconcerned with someone botting in Runescape or WoW. There are 2nd and 3rd order effects.
    6. Too many scarabs in multiple ways.
    A) Annoying to pick them all up
    B) Cluttered stash tab
    C) Even with 5 map device slots you can't fit the scarabs you want anymore
    D) You're now essentially locked into ONE piece of content, since most farming methods require all 5 slots for the one method.
    7. The nerf to raw divine drop rate... for what reason? As if t16s needed to feel any worse
    8. Curation scarab exists, why? How could GGG not see/know that putting this in the game would make literally any other farming method obsolete? Div scarabs need a complete revert, and honestly, I pray that they bring back sextants in some form and revert the whole list of scarab changes.
    9. Ubers are less accessible than ever. The stated goal of uber fragments was to make ubers accessible to more players, and the exact opposite was accomplished. Locking frags behind t17s was very poorly considered.
    10. Non uber bosses are more pointless than ever. The data is in, they just dont drop shit.
    11. Every league it seems to be more and more difficult to make a functional build to do content if you're determined not to play flavor of the month overbuffed trash. Some may say "play what's good then", but that should not be the goal or the requirement. The goal for players is being able to play the builds they like and accomplish most league content. Being forced into CoC DD or bow builds is not good design.
    12. Where the fuck are the bow nerfs? Are we done playing LA yet? For the love of fucking god

To be honest i played through all of this but what really pissed me off is the changes to drop rates they don't tell us they make. I have been running around 100 maps a day for the last month. In this time with absolutely no mention, The Chaos Grimoire almost disappeared. A week ago i would see it several times a day. Sometimes the Weapons/Armor dropped as Chaos or the 7% chance to drop. And i would see Meatsack allflames too. Very few Anarchy Allflames.
As the month went on and the last week the most, i have seen Chaos Grimoire 1 time. 0 Meatsacks but 15+ Anarchy allflames.
The Prices on trade sites show i am not alone in this, as the price of Divines went up (fewer chaos), Meatsack prices skyrocketed and Anarchy Allflames became cheep (as there is almost no use since the Chaos Grimoire is so rare now)
There has been no mentions of these drop rate changes but it is very clear they are in game and not just RNG messing with me. The differences is simply to big and consistent over 1000's of maps.
I don't mind changes but i want transparency...
