Have to say: The Guano war wasn't really about the Guano itself, but in the process Spain captured the Chincha Islands, which were a massive source of Peruvian Guano to try and choke their economy into surrendering.
Most likely, the Guano captured by Spain was used to make gunpowder (as it too needs nitrogen) rather than as fertilizer

Also, Nitrogen having such powerful bonds (actually I think it might be the strongest) due to their triple bond (as opposed to double bonds), is what leads to Nitrogen being so useful in explosives, as it needs a triple bond to stay stable-
so when you use a single bond, it is unstable and will generate energy as it really really wants to break free!
