I do get what people say about this interview.....but bear in mind this was breakfast TV and she would have been warned that Sir Les is quite a chap.....she kept a smile on her face and we all had fun. Sir Les is a gem, there will never be another Australian Diplomat with quite this level of charm ever again.
Oh the poor kid... facing this genius, this master of impro, of satire, of verbal fragmentation grenades. She did her best, such as it was. As Dennis Nordern used to say, ‘Today there’s more TV available than talent.’
Yes, all this young woman had to do was shut up and let Les do his stuff 😭😭 Tammy had no idea at all !! Too busy worried about asking the next question instead of going with the flow.
He was an erudite man with challenging characters. His mother had no idea where he came from. It was Christowel St in Melbourne. RIP the man who discovered Australia. 😢
I saw Les Patterson and Dame Edna live in London late eighties he was so crude amazingly funny ...Les must be so pissed off with our silly snowflake society. Edna was awesome I was on cloud nine for days afterwards...she was on a crane that lifted her up high as our seats were there up high...she said ...Im coming for you paupers! Dont worry! and threw me some gladys! Brillient!
That interviewer is appalling - sprawled across the couch as if she is relaxed and laid back when she is in fact nervous and uptight, never laughing and trying to wave a feminist banner plus keeps interrupting Les's punch lines and flow - or rather his various flows if ye catch my drift ladies and gentlemen.
Humphreys is such a clever comic, lightning fast thought and brilliant delivery. I think he must have despaired over this entirely thick interviewer who is completely out of her depth. But he remains gentle and courteous with her, and gets through it: what a trouper! Met him once at lunch in HK in the late 70's, when he was appearing at the Mandarin Hotel in a cabaret turn. I recall he appeared through the audience at the start of his act as Sir Les, and took the place by storm. Offstage he was as funny and clever as when appearing professionally, it's now almost 50 years ago, but I remember being in constant gales of laughter. A comedy genius.
It's not the news though, and completely unimportant. The usual interview method on the show what that the interviewer and interviewee were on a big bed together - not sure why these two werent't.
I read here much about the ineffectiveness of the girl Tammy but she does offer a uniqueness in trying to deflect Sir Les's flow and retain control. Her failure and squirming is an additional entertainment to enjoy (in a sadistic way)
Bit late with a comment for you old mate, I don't know if a lot of people knew that Sir Les was born with a peculiar defect in the trouser department,a lot of women and men too I suppose, had varied reactions to noticing his massive cock,(sorry, no other words do it justice), from Parkinson's show with Jackie Weaver when she notices,a different time, but she was an Aussie as well,he talks about his defect with shame, hilarious.🇦🇺👍
Ah, shes a darling this girl....couldnt interview a witness at a murder scene... but what a darling. Been better if it was Lilly Savage doing the intv, but one great ag another might not work?
Michael Parkinson worked very well with Sir Les. As other commentators here have pointed out, this girl is not ideal for the Australian Cultural Attachè. (She is attractive though. Like her slightly raw voice.)
Barry Humphries was far more comfortable with this character than with Dame Edna. Michael Parkinson knew best how to interview Sir Les; introduce him and just sit back.
Beautifully put. Was he flogging a book or a tour? I forget. She was just "tart of the month" on the channel's Big Breakfast show. It was probably her or on the bed with Lily Savage. Those were different times...
Humphries had two schticks - "Sir" Les and "Dame" Edna. Both were funny - once. But he kept on with the same tired old lines, without realising that Australia had moved on from his very 1960s and 1970s perspectives and references.
So much of his humor is in the pauses, expressions and throw away lines as he changes subjects. Amazing talent.
Every time I feel sad I watch sir Lesley Patterson then
The day goes like smooth as silk.
I do get what people say about this interview.....but bear in mind this was breakfast TV and she would have been warned that Sir Les is quite a chap.....she kept a smile on her face and we all had fun. Genius. My favorite Humphries creation. His timing is so impeccable.
Dame Edna was stellar though!
He is a comedy genius, love him.
Sir Les. What a character. We will never see the likes of him again. R I P.
Oh the poor kid... facing this genius, this master of impro, of satire, of verbal fragmentation grenades.
She did her best, such as it was.
As Dennis Nordern used to say, ‘Today there’s more TV available than talent.’
A comedy genius, pioneer, influence and hero.
Les Patterson: such a likeable bloke! He has an old fashioned (in the good way) class and style about him!
The greatest comedy character ever !
that was so nice how gentle he was with her...
RIP Legend
iv'e kind of wondered if Mike Myers took some inspiration from Les Patterson, for his character "Austin Powers"
0l0
What's with all the critcism of Tammy? - she is the perfect foil here for Sir Les. They make a wonderful couple. LOVE Les.
She could have been if she didn't keep interrupting
She's got no idea about Les. She ain't going with him. The girl is totally out of her depth.
That's because she is so shallow.
“…it’s for my shnouzer! In that case you’d better not ride a bike for a fortnight!” 😂
Barry Humphries is a genius. The interviewer probably got the job because she went to the 'right' girls' school and is pretty.
Yes, all this young woman had to do was shut up and let Les do his stuff 😭😭 Tammy had no idea at all !!
Too busy worried about asking the next question instead of going with the flow.
Spot on
Yes he's the king of monologue
That interviewer isn't even in the same league here, it's embarrassing. He's a juggernaut of entertainment, and she's just vacuous and vain.
Come on Ted. You’d enter her in a heartbeat.
ive met her she is actually very nice and genuine friendly girl next door type, humble to
Think you've missed the point..
The beginning of when interviewers thought they were the stars.
he is a genius, she is a deadhead who has no idea
That was a good interview. Very few people can interview Sir Les and still be in control and allow him to speak. As they say “The girl done well”.
She certainly got all his innuendos....
He’s a legend !
He was an erudite man with challenging characters. His mother had no idea where he came from. It was Christowel St in Melbourne. RIP the man who discovered Australia. 😢
you can tell she cant interview him,she doesn't know how to shut up and give him space, with the gags.ruining his timing.
Spot on
Tasmanian mauve vein - cracks me up every time. I miss you Dr Sir Leslie Colin Patterson

I always assumed she was fucking a producer. She - I forget her name - was always as bad as this.
Catch your drift Zooney? I think we're ahead of you!
Apparently she smells nice.
And y'know what she puts behind her ears to attract the menfolk?
Her ankles.
Brilliant timing. Prefer him to Dame Edna.

Brilliant!
Interviewer needs to let him deliver his punchlines without wrecking the timing and butting in.
Two of society's renounded socialites become intimate friends. Lovely to see.

Do you seriously believe this interview is ad lib?You don't think they did a rehearsal?
@@petermcculloch4933 Doesn't look like it 🙄
To think this was morning TV
A very brave choice for a breakfast interview...
Genius!
Les was like an early Boris Johnson! Lol
Boris Johnson is not funny he is a highly insulting wnker, Les Patterson is a genius.
RIP Barry.
Wasn't Tamara absolutely stunning in her youth?
Who is the airhead?
Tamara Beckwith .
Sir Leslie Colin Patterson is living proof that EVERY day is International Privileged White Male Day, thank heavens.
Huh?
Comedic genius...
She's not Michael Parkinson and didn't know you should just keep quiet and enjoy it.
He was the King
Never seen an interview where the interviewer lies down on the couch.. Unusual composure for television.. Imagine the news being presented like this.
It's not the news though, and completely unimportant. The usual interview method on the show what that the interviewer and interviewee were on a big bed together - not sure why these two werent't.
@@ppotter hmm okay, I thought it was breakfast TV.
The interviewer keeps interrupting him...very irritating.
How crap was the big breakfast looking back on it
What an empty vacuus girl to interview such an icon...typical TV
I read here much about the ineffectiveness of the girl Tammy but she does offer a uniqueness in trying to deflect Sir Les's flow and retain control. Her failure and squirming is an additional entertainment to enjoy (in a sadistic way)

Her eyes kept flicking down to some where who knows why?
Judd Hirsh spat on me constantly as I sat in the front row at the Booth Theater, behind a sign that read "Please do not put your feet on the stage."
some of it goes over her head
Ah, understood, he's Australia's style guru, that explains everything
Les is great.
She's bloody hopeless
Ah, shes a darling this girl....couldnt interview a witness at a murder scene... but what a darling. Been better if it was Lilly Savage doing the intv, but one great ag another might not work?
who is she
Wow, I bet she's had more pricks than a pin cushion.
Even though I love watching Sir Les, I cannot stand the interviewer.
RIP Sir Les
Bet barry thought all his Christmas's came at once 😂
Lesette hes insane
Is this the same Beckworth on CNN now?
What's with all the slagging off the interviewer? The questions are scripted. Sure they’re not delivered brilliantly but passable.
Superb comedian interviewed by a total embarrassment.
Michael Parkinson worked very well with Sir Les. As other commentators here have pointed out, this girl is not ideal for the Australian Cultural Attachè. (She is attractive though. Like her slightly raw voice.)
I agree.
Tammy gorgeous .....Sir Les mirrors this exsquisite ' !
The interviewer is truly awful
Barry Humphries was far more comfortable with this character than with Dame Edna.
Michael Parkinson knew best how to interview Sir Les; introduce him and just sit back.
He's quite coarse in places. V.funny
Tamara should have known not to crash in on Les's lines, especially when he was forming them.
He looks a bit like George Cole
His wit is way over her head!!!
♥️
Wow she is gorgeous 10/10
Let’s play a game called
“Who’s That Host” !
I ask who’s that host and someone reply’s with their best answer.
Who’s that host?
Tamara Beckwith.
@@ppotter congrats u won the game!
THE TEETH 😂
Tamara would have loved social media, but she's too old now.. 😆
Apolitical correctness fair n square
Claudia Shif-fer.....
The dirty deed. 😂😂😂
Hi Ni Brine Ki .....
She was a good sort.
The ladies must have been fainting all over the world
Tamara is certainly a blonde babe....
Autobiology !!!!
Sandy is a great character too. But Les is a bewdy
any one know the name of the lady presenter
Not even wikipedia remembers... Um, I seem to remember a Tara Palmer Tomkinson connection, but I'm stumped.
Tamara Beckwith
Fuckwit
It's Tamara beckwith ,not very good looking compared to Denise van outen
Gaby Roslin
Met her once she is more chilled. Mind you i met her in 2005
In a non-lecherous way (believe it or not), I’d be interested to see what happens had he groped her.
He wouldn't do that mate. Its a comedy act. WTFU
This woman is soooo boring
She needed to shut up...
She is not up to standard.....
She cant handle him at all lol
:-)
She's as cute as.
Why did he agree to go on this silly tart’s show.
Beautifully put. Was he flogging a book or a tour? I forget. She was just "tart of the month" on the channel's Big Breakfast show. It was probably her or on the bed with Lily Savage. Those were different times...
Tamara is excellent.

She’s amazing in this
