    While waiting for the DLC I got a PS5 went through Bloodborne, and Demon Souls remake, finished Dark Souls remastered with its DLC (never played the DLC), now playing Dark Souls 2 never finished its DLCs and then will go through Dark Souls 3 because I never finished the Ringed City, so I got some stuff to do until the DLC comes out😄

      I envy you. Dark Souls 3 is my favorite to play on repeat. It's just so concise and focused in what it's trying to do. Do yourself a favor and get into a little bit of the PVP if you care to. It's my favorite of all the games for the PVP alone, and there's a lot of really great channels on TH-cam for how to get into it proper. Saint_Riot was my go-to for really understanding the nuances of the game and how to make a build that isn't just meta, but one that is creative and personal, while still viable.

    Eh, I play Fromsoft games for the level design, bosses, art design, soundtrack, lore, and the combat that prioritizes learning enemy movesets/tells, spacing and finding openings. Basically, everything but the multiplayer. I also don't find it important if a game I like has an active player base (some of the games I still play the most are 20 or 30 years old). I still play Sekiro all the time, btw, it's pretty much my comfort game, and I enjoy getting better at using different prosthetics and skill load outs.

    • @emotionaljonxvx
      @emotionaljonxvx  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      So here's the thing, and you're not the first to say this. The way you want to play the games is not impeded by the existence of an optional multiplayer system. The point I want to get across is the way the Souls series implements multiplayer is unique and by not applying a strong focus to it in Elden Ring, they have diminished that experience. That, in turn, gives me fewer reasons to interact with the game long-term, as I am someone who very much enjoys the multiplayer. The way I see it, everyone who loves the level design, bosses, art design, soundtrack, lore, and the combat gets an amazing game every time they release something. But only on sparse occasions are the games accompanied by an improvement to the multiplayer that no other game has. I love all the same things you do about the games, but I also love the multiplayer and that is the weakest part of Elden Ring for me. And I can't go anywhere else to get the specific multiplayer I want from a game. And they include most of the pieces, so a few small adjustments would make a big difference. You have the game you want, which is great. I just want the game I want.
      tl;dr
      I love everything else about these games too, and these games do not lose anything by having better multiplayer, so is there really a good reason to argue against having better multiplayer, even if you personally don't care about it?

      I definitely get people playing offline, nothing wrong with wanting a pure single player experience. I would definitely recommend trying out invasions and PVP more broadly. It can be stressful and aggravating, but it opens up the game is so many ways. It's really unique to this series and my favorite thing about the games.

  • @maximelac5604

    I don't really play PvP altough I enjoy it. I would like more insentive to engage tho, like rewards based of your covenent like DS3. In it's very nature ER already has covenents, at least alot of room to divide factions, it would be a damn shame if they pass on this.

    • @emotionaljonxvx
      @emotionaljonxvx  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think they've got the talent to develop a system where getting invaded and invading people both have the same level of incentive. Where I want to be invaded and I want to invade others, rather than just beating on one side, though that's a lot of fun too.

  • @christianotto5553
    @christianotto5553 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Interesting take and I respect your opinion. But I disagree. ER has reduced invasions more than any other FROM game. Yet it's the most successful. It got a free arena update. Yet the arena got quickly abandoned by PvPers. My conclusion is that whatever made ER so widely beloved, it was not the PvP/invasions.

      @cosseybomb 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I disagree

    • @emotionaljonxvx
      @emotionaljonxvx  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I think you're right that Elden Ring is not beloved because of its PVP, but I think that's more because it's one of its weakest features. For a lot of people, ER is their first souls game and I think everyone hates PVP in their first souls experience. If not for the PVP of the earlier titles, I don't know that I'd keep as involved with them. It's an entire second game underneath the first that you can play forever, that is bolstered by the same things that made the initial experience great. It just needs proper support and incentive to engage with. I'd also say FromSoftware are masters of getting people out of their comfort zone and PVP is basically one big discomfort zone. They got me hooked, I think they can get everyone eventually with the right moves.

    • @christianotto5553
      @christianotto5553 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@emotionaljonxvx Having PvP certainly adds a lot of replayability, agreed. But for many people, that comes after clearing the game first. I think it was a good choice to tone down invasions. ER is surprisingly approachable for new players, and reduced invasions suit that. Probably a reason for its success.

    • @emotionaljonxvx
      @emotionaljonxvx  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I think the way they tethered invasions to co-op players in Dark Souls 3 and locked it behind embers was excellent. Let's people play solo with minimal outside interference, but helped balance the co-op play by adding an active opposition. That all still exists, but it's just more restrictive, both for co-op (3 vs 4 players) and only 1 invader. For me, it's a backstep that doesn't really change how people use it, but it removes opportunities to interact with the system. I doubt it was a purchasing factor for the new 17M people buying the game who had never experienced invasions, and I'm confident the weaker invasion system is responsible for the diminished active player base 2 years out. Really, I just think less invasions makes the game way less unique and there is no other franchise you can get this sort of experience from. I want to see them improve it for all types of players, not weaken its placement.

      That's pretty much exactly how I'm finding most souls veterans feel. The super long development cycle with long playthroughs on a game without much multiplayer incentive is really hurting the longevity of play. Really hoping they right the ship with the DLC.

      I love the open world & how vast it is but the knight armor is awful. Raging Wolf Armor is nice but that’s it. The rest of the armor is clunky & too many wizard robes. I want to look good win or lose & ER lacks that. Too many reskinned bosses. I hope they put a lot of armor In the dlc. Armor customization was awful too.

    • @emotionaljonxvx
      @emotionaljonxvx  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I feel you for sure. The armor options are interesting (mostly outlandish), but I'm very simple with my fashion preferences. I want dirty, pragmatic plate armor that looks good stained with blood. And yeah, armor customization was a silly thing that needs a ton of work. I want recoloring, different accents on each piece, different cloak options, etc. Fashion souls or bust!

      I totally get people wanting to separate the experience. When I first started playing back in the early Dark Souls days, I hated invasions. It wasn't until I started invading and letting myself get invaded that I really fell in love with the system. My big thing is that there is no other game where you can have a combined, seamless experience where single player is co-op is pvp. And of course they allow for you to play the game any way you'd like, which just furthers its value.

      Completely get it. I love dark fantasy and survival horror, so it's only natural I would love feeling like I'm about to be murdered if I let my guard down. Nothing more immersive than being too scared to leave the undead burg because I know I can trade hands with these hollows, but I have no idea what awaits me atop the belfry. And the thrill of a black phantom when I least expect it, unparalleled terror.
