I stopped midway through the interview to watch the 2023 Correspondents Dinner. Roy Wood Jr., you are a comedy gem. Your commentary is clever, relatable, timeless, AND hilarious! This was a great interview, Toure!
If you stopped midway through, I hope you came back to watch the end when he discussed his approach towards fatherhood. Damn near brought a tear to my eye. Our time with our kids is limited. Let them get to know the person, more than just the parent.
I really wanted him. If nto that I was hoping they'd just keep rotating the existing cast as hosts because most of them also knocked it out of the park.
I actually thought that Roy would be the next great host! Im very disappointed in the Daily show and I have not watched alot of it since they essentially forced his hands! Why stay at a job that wants to keep you in the bench!
Comedy is hard, and fatherhood is harder. Roy is clearly a devoted father who had the seeds of great fatherly wisdom and insight instilled within him. Additionally, he is a student and an emerging master of the art of comedy. I'm rooting and cheering for you, Roy! Keep on winning for your family and yourself!
This was such a great interview! I've always loved his comedy, but to see him converse like this is a whole other level. He's such a chill, well thought out intelect. His thought process on his career and pushing forward not relying on big comedy to hold him down and make a solid plan is admirable. Again this was great!
I haven’t watched since they passed him over. Hassan is not the vibe and his comedy is dishonest in a way that’s fine for comedy but out of place in a political comedy show. Roy is integrity and truth personified, he just happens to be a hysterical comedian ❤
@@heyheyNow Integrity? He is the token angry black man. That can be funny at certain points, but there are topics where you have to go beyond. Hassan can provide that. Roy can't.
I love Roy Wood Jr.❤ You said something I really needed to hear. I want to give you some insight too about your son. Only expose Henry to age appropriate things in your life. Understand that you are currently operating in the frame of thinking that you may not be alive when he is a young adult because that is what happened with you and your dad. Keep a journal for things you want to share with your son. That way you write it down for him to get at an appropriate time and he is not being expose prematurely to adult things. I love you Roy!
I love how relatable his decision to leave the Daily Show was for my journey. I had 2 businesses since 2015 - one in marketing and one in real estate. The pandemic gave me the opportunity to devote more time to my businesses and LESS time to the job I had from 2011 - 2021. While I loved that work, I realized WHERE I was in 2021 it was time to move on and grow these businesses that I have so much passion for. I adore the people I worked for and the people we educated. It was highly valuable work BUT it was no longer my place to be and I saw that. Sending you much love and respect @roywoodjr.
Listening to Roy break down how he refines his routine made me respect him and his craft much more. I have never heard a comedian break it down like that. It also made me think Monique complaining about her Netflix offer but never mentioning putting in this much work.
Clarence Thomas as NFT explanation is one of the best things aired on television ever!!! I love/hate that, at his level of skill and expertise, Roy is still reviewing the tape and kicking himself after winning the game.
Wow. What a great interview. I love Roy. His comedy is what brought me. But what I take away is dynamics of parenting and connecting with your children. Really profound discussion here. Thank you.
Great interview! Roy Wood Jr. is so layered. He really was open and vulnerable. I commend him for that. That's one thing I miss about being in the US, comedy clubs (with actual good comedians). Shout out to Peoria, IL (where my father grew up); who would've thought it'd get a mention?! I wish more parents were this reflective about parenting, but then again so many are too busy trying to make a living that they don't have the time or energy. I hope he finds out what kind of pasta he wants to make. I'm looking forward to seeing what he decides. I'll support it!
I have never seen this show before. I definitely came here for Roy! I love this man so much! He made an impression on me in person in 2016, and I am a fan for life. This was such an interesting interview, someone on here said masterclass. I never heard a comedian talk about these things. I look forward to seeing him on stage in 2024, and wherever he “lands”, I’ll support. Also would love to see what you and Jordan do together- a big fan of his style also! Wishing you all the Blessings, Roy! 🥰
I have so much respect for Roy and his perspective. Hearing his rationale for co-parenting leaves me with no doubt that he's going to raise a great son.
One of the funniest people in the business. Really clear expose on his method. Also intelligent and relatable. Hopefully he can build up his own base. His performance in the correspondence dinner was brilliant. Foxnews could laugh at themselves as well as the president laugh at himself.
Roy you’re one of the best we’re gonna miss you wish you the best and many blessings for this new year to your new arrival God bless your wife and may you continue to live a peaceful life❤
Roy reminds me so much of my dad when he was his age (at least my dad's good parts), and so listening to him reminds me of and helps me focus on the good times with him (he hasn't spoken to me for years.) And as someone trying to build a career in entertainment, listening to Roy's wisdom helps keep me grounded and focused - dude's got his head on straight, and I have so much respect for him.
I'm the same age as Roy, also grew up in the South, but white. My HS was almost exactly 50/50 white & black. I played football & basketball so I didn't isolate myself in 'white' sports like tennis or soccer either. So I consider myself fully integrated and had plenty of friends of either color. You could say I felt comfortable and accepted sitting at any lunch table in the cafeteria. I like to think that if we went to the same high school, Roy and I would've been good friends that still keep in touch to this day.
I think Roy Wood is a highly intelligent and astutely analytical person. Articulate when serious, articulate with his humor when that's what's he is doing.
Roy knows the craft of comedy and his niche. This only comes from experience - so sad the Daily show lost him. Imhop comedy central is going to regret it. Roy - you should do your own show.
I never really thought twice about this guy.. I chuckled at his bit on the daily show but I would never have thought to go see this guy in stand-up routine.. I absolutely love the way he broke down how he comes up with material and how incredibly intelligent he is and it's enough to make me want to watch his comedy specials cuz he works hard.
This is one of those interviews I didn’t know I needed until I saw it. I didn’t realize until I watched it that I’ve never seen Roy Wood Jr outside of the I guess Roy Wood Jr persona if you will. I’ve seen him on The Daily Show/specials and all that but I’ve never seen a legitimate interview with him. I’m glad he didn’t feel the need to be “on” the whole time in this thing. It was a really interesting watch. I would have loved to hear the Paul Mooney story but I guess he talked about it too long and had to circle back to RWJ.
"Specially if you're black." For real, we don't expect for everything to go our way, and are used to having to make lemonade with the lemons life gives us, being afraid is pointless.
I been following Roy since the early 2000’s when he would drop in on the Bob and Tom radio show. He used to do these hilarious prank calls from a station in Alabama that were so so crazy. It’s been a joy watch his evolution and growth as a comedian and entertainer and writer. He’s always funny, period, end of story.
Wow! Just Wow! I've watched a lot of comedy and interviews with comedians, but I've never heard anyone break down exactly how they construct a joke and a set list like this. Roy should teach a Master Class for Comics and Writers. I saw Roy Wood Jr in Atlanta a few months ago. It was a phenomenal show. I really only watched TDS for Roy and Dulce Sloan. I was never a Trevor Noah fan.

One of his funniest stories to me is about his mom meeting “Rod Stewart” at a buffet or something in Vegas and then them actually seeing him in Harrods in London. Oh and that his mom has a picture of Rod up in her house. So funny.

Totally agree! Roy is hilarious and I think underrated.

This is not just an interview, it's a comedy master class from professor Woods
