- The Duke of Sussex is suing News Group Newspapers (NGN), publishers of The Sun and The Sun on Sunday, for unlawful information gathering.
In this episode of Royal Insight, Camilla Tominey explains how Prince Harry’s court cases - win or lose - are a double-edged sword.
“If Harry thinks he has a claim for phone hacking and he wants to go all the way through the courts to win it, then fair play to him; having said that, even if he wins does, he also loses,” she says.
Having divulged more private information in his ongoing quest to protect his privacy, we can argue, even if he wins in court, Harry may end up losing in the long run.
“Harry is a man on a mission to reform the press and feels it is his life’s purpose to do so. It’s very backward looking trying to avenge the people he thinks caused his mother’s death.”
“Prince Harry sees himself as a champion for a different media. To Harry, if he has to write damaging things about his family, then so be it. This is the bigger prize - reform of the media.”
“Is there a noble aim at the heart of what Prince Harry is trying to do - yes. I don’t think most people myself included, are happy with the idea of paparazzi pursuing celebrities in car chases, it’s not safe.”

Princess Diana was in no physical danger with the paparazzi following her and Dodi, the danger was the drunk driver who was not familiar with that type of vehicle and his speeding. I haven’t heard of another person dying from a paparazzi related pursuit and the driver of the Taxi in New York was calm and unconcerned with the paparazzi following them, in fact he thought it was quite funny. Being followed back to a hotel or friends’ residence should be discarded with the appropriate amount of disinterest it entails, upon arrival wave courteously at the cameras and enter the building its not difficult. Harry’s preoccupation in associating Meghan with his mother is very disturbing and I’m sure the Prince of Wales is fed up with repeatedly hearing it, as we all are.

The driver had consumed a legal unit of alcohol but he was not over the limit or drunk. The inquest proved this.
The driver was blinded by the paparazzi flash bulbs.
Diana could have lived if she had received immediate treatment. The ambulance waited 90 minutes before transporting her to the hospital a short distance away.
The inquest proved all of that and ruled it as an "unlawful killing as a result of the car being pursued by paparazzi".
That ruling is the exact reason why British tabloids made the decision to never buy paparazzi photos. They knew they had caused the accident.

If his mum had done that, worn her seat-belt, and insisted on not getting in a car with a driver who had been drinking, (Or had accepted when they had been offered rooms in the luxury hotel where she had just dined,) she would not have died. The problem with the paparazzi situation is so many celebrities want to play it both ways. They want to tip off paps and be photographed but don’t like being caught out of the blue when they’re not photo ready. That obviously sends mixed signals to the photographers. Even Diana was guilty of this. If he’s serious about the paparazzi thing he needs to take a firm stand.

I think your assessment of Harry is too generous. I just see a bitter, unintelligent, inadequate man trying to fabricate some sort of purpose for his otherwise frivolous life. In middle age now, he’s running out of chances to independently succeed at anything or leave any meaningful legacy.
