In the old days they used to carry a water tank onboard to keep the brakes cool and once your brakes get hot you’re got no brakes at all!

i love truckies, trucks and anything to do with transport/machinery. i hope to become a well respected Heavy vehicle mechanic one day not to mention eventually do interstate trucking. :) i love everything about big machinery and long haulin drives. :D but yeah i agree... majority of drivers on the roads these days are oblivious to truck drivers, how different they handle and their capabilities.. having driven dads truck fully loaded while still on my learners helped me with that.

There's no Jack brake, it is a system of braking created by a company called Jacob Vehicle Systems, hence the term 'Jake' brake which in much simplified terms uses engine compression through use of lower gears to slow heavy vehicles, thus reducing wear and tear on braking components and lowering the risk of brake 'fade' which can result in partial or total brake failure.
