  • This is one of my favorite saws so I thought you should have a walk-through. #loretone #lapidary #ls14 #lapidarysaw #rockhound #questforequipment #lapidarymachine

    I didnt realise how much of a difference oil vs water can make on cutting, good to know!!! That drainage system with the 2 buckets is cool too!!! Thanks for sharing

    I really want a 18' or 24" drop saw. Seeing this makes me want it even more.

      I was just joking with someone over on IG that once you have a saw, you realize you need a bigger one. I LOVE the 14 but I would love a bigger one more.

    I have the exact same saw! Bought it used about 25 years ago and it still works great! I mostly use it for blocking sphere blanks and thundereggs. It is easily modified to be able to use homemade clamps as you have done. I agree that the only drawback is cleaning the bottom tray of all the stuff that crumbles off the eggs. I had to add a lock nut on the underside of the stop mechanism because the saw vibrations always turned it from my setting.

      I run a concrete blade that I found cheap on ebay and it works great because it wont flex when cutting round objects or cutting off the corners of the sphere blanks which can destroy a blade. The extra 1/16” of material that is lost with the thick blade is of no concern to me. I cut slabs on a different saw.

      I had a second one come through as part of an estate lot. Kicking myself for selling it.

    Thanks for the overview man! Based on all the lapidary saws I have seen so far, I definitely like the clamping system on this the best. You could easily cut geodes and thundereggs perfectly in half as opposed to a big and little piece. I also like how its pretty much gravity fed instead of a moving table, one less thing to go wrong! Looking forward to see the finished result of that cut!

      The only drawback is that, if you set it up wrong, you can squeeze the rock and cause the last quarter inch to break, rather than cut. It's still the best thing I've come up with.

    That is one sweet slicer Ocklawahaboy Rocks, why are they so hated by their haters? I see nothing wrong and a few very right things with that style of saw, weird. Your settling system looks great too, well done! Thank you for showing off this awesome beast of a saw.

      I don't know why some people hate them so much. I got a 2nd one in a lot of stuff I bought and am kicking myself for selling it. I wouldn't mind having two.

    Awesome saw review here, looks like it works really well and smooth. The added weight is smart, I like your drainage and separations dual barrel setup, along with using mineral oil, good tip. I really like your double clamp compared to the single clamp I typically see. Great video, thanks for sharing your baby with us!

    I was told you can you use diesel to circulate instead of oil in it. Does that sound dangerous to you?

    • @ocklawahaboyrocks
      @ocklawahaboyrocks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It isn't particularly dangerous but I've heard it's nearly impossible to get the smell out of the rocks.

      @@ocklawahaboyrocks Thank you for your quick reply. Now I have to go tell my significant other that he was right, diesel will not cause some spontaneous combustion while cutting rocks (guess I've seen to many movies🤷). Only fair, he gets to be right now and then too.
