- For some reason whenever Emilio and I play VAS, we roll up the number 5 mission combo. Another challenging and interesting game, with new strategies attempted. Some old ones actually working. And some serious big gun biffo.
The tactical enhancement is apparently pronounced differently than the way it reads in English.
I love the opening of your episodes. Comedic yet fun!
Thanks!
God i love this game, but could never put together enough for a fleet or find people who wanted to play. Keep it coming!
Best way to play the USN fleet carriers is to bring a bunch of scouting, which is REALLY easy for the US to do.
If you take the 1943 (all) and 1943 Jenkings/Stevens/Halford refits on fletchers you get advanced radar (re-rollable 3+ scouting roll) and 1 extra scouting aircraft at the cost of 1 AD on a gun and 1 set of (worthless) US Torpedos for only 50 points. Remember going scouting may cost you your fleet BUT if you get to 7+ scouting rolls successes you get bring all your scouting ships back to the table. Good scouting options are the Baltimore Cruiser, Fletchers (as previously stated), and Cleavland Cruisers (good destroyer hunters).
Being able to start the game with all 22 flights launched is a huge advantage for the USN.
Italian Falco aircraft are "Tough" so you have to re-roll all successful attacks against them.
I'd suggest letting the Italian player bring Breda Ba.201 dive bombers on his carrier, since the book actually says they were developing them for the Aquila before it was canceled.
The points in Victory at Seas is balanced by someone throwing darts at a board. I'd recommend going to the Unofficial Victory at seas Wardroom facebook page and picking up the alternate points for SHIPs, much better balancing with that point system.
Cool. Thanks for the advice. I think I really need to get some Fletchers. Maybe some different cruisers like you suggested. Big gun buffo is fun, but there is a lot more to the game. Emilio will be happy to hear your thoughts re the dive bombers.
@@cognitionfatigue I'd also maybe suggest looking at alternative models for aircraft. While nice, Warlords are EXPENSIVE when your rocking 20-24 of em. Trumpeter makes boxes of 18 aircraft at 1/700 scale for half the price of 4 flights. I run 1/700 and 1/600 scale aircraft (1 plane per base) to save on the enormous monetary costs it takes to even field IJN carriers. Tumbling Dice has 1/600 scale aircraft for the Italians to help in that category.
@@durnaxe8708 yep. Planes are a nightmare. In first edition, they were paper counters.
Where can I get my hands on Baltimore or Cleveland cruisers? I’ve been really wanting US cruisers besides Portlands and Northamptons but can’t find anything.
I added a diagonal deployment zone. This made Carriers a little easier to use. If the wind is off the wrong side of the board...
I thi k the wind should be calculated first before lining up deployment zones, and long edge board set up only if the Wind is along either short edge.
For tournament play, tbere need to be a couple of twitches made.
If you have land masses in the middle, you gotta use observation flights to make use of Over The Horizon shooting.
I do enjoy this game.
Thanks for posting.
Thanks. I agree tournaments would need a bit of balancing / tweaking for setting a level playing field/ocean.
Won’t lie I initially clicked this as I was tired and thought it was a Perun video I hadn’t watched!
Glad I stuck around as it was a very good battle report. One question I do have is what’s the difference between Victory at Sea and Cruel Seas? They’re both WW2 naval games by Warlord, and the only difference I can see at first glance is one of scale. Is there major differences between the two mechanically?
Different ships. Victory at Sea has battleships, cruisers, and carriers.
More of Victory at Sea please!
Ill try. I love this game. Real life employment... not so much.
@@cognitionfatigue ok
Great video 👍The game looks fun but the old wallet wouldn't support going down another rabbit hole 😂 so I'll stick to watching you guys play. Bring on some more. One suggestion, Bismarck! Just saying 😁
@@hneugiii1245 I'll see if anyone has it... I think one of our mob has that ship
Surely your carriers would be hundreds of miles away.
Great game! I like your mat too; can I ask where you got it and which exact version it is?
Thanks. I got this mat from deep cut studios. It's in vinyl. 6x4 foot (or whatever that is in mm). Warlord do one as well - same size and material. About the same price at the time but haven't looked into it since.
With the US fleet, the Fletcher-class destroyers are so much better than the Clemsons, putting out twice the health and firepower for the same speed and point value. Still, throwing in clemsons sometimes for extra variety is fun too.
Yeah I agree. I have these because they came in a fleet box... If I expand the fleet I'll get some fletchers.
