Hi Kim. Great video. Loved the voiceover/slideshow format. Always great to change things up a bit. My favorite images were the closeups of the waves showing the detail, shapes, and colors. They were spectacular! Must have been tough handholding that big lens in those winds. Kudos on capturing some great images despite the harsh conditions. :) Paula
A great video with soothing music Ms Grant. I particularly loved your B&W photographs with the waves and the birds - the last one was very vibrant in my book. Thank you.
Awesome video, I really liked the B/W images, the 2nd and 3rd ones where my favorite, you captured the moment , it was like I was there. Thank you for bringing us with you on this adventure.
Hi Kim wow all you you tube landscape & wildlife photographer's seem to be excelling this month and this one off yours was no exception with great narration and stunning image's. I personally love black & white images mainly for nostalgic reasons they take me back to what I call the good old days. I better not go on as i could end up writing a book so until next time take care and stay safe.
You capture a wonderful sense of the wildness in these pictures - favourites are 2:18 for the colour, 8:10 for the portrait treatment that shows the rocks in the foreground and 9:15 with just one bird soaring through the waves. Thanks.
I love your channel, and am a subscriber (and also a fellow Celt from the Principality of Wales). My PC is connected to my TV (43"), so any defect is magnified; what I did notice was that the sky in many of the shots were very grainy, and a dust spot in the sky in one image (8mins). The ISO in these images was quoted as 500, which isn't that high, and for a full frame camera should be no problem. Just my thoughts and opinions.
I really liked the photos in this video, and then especially the B/W in portrait orientation at 8:07. You found a good foreground on that one. I do have a special place in my heart for a good B/W-photo. As you mentioned, white birds against black/ dark background worked well also.
Hard to pick a favorite! I like the one at 8:07 for contrast and texture. I do love a good monochrome or bird shot. Good job on fighting the wind for hand held shots!
You definitely got your stormy weather there Kim. Loved the close up image with that beautiful colour in the cresting waves. All great images but really liked the colour in the waves.
I've recently discovered and have been binge-watching Susan Calman's Secret Scotland series. This was the first time I'd ever heard of Orkney and the next day, I discovered your channel. I live in a coastal town in northern California, with very similar coastlines. I'm spending my shutdown time learning to finally use the camera I've had for years and you have inspired me to go out and take pictures of waves. Thanks for that!
Very nice. I particularly liked the close-ups of the sea. For example, when you zoomed in at 2:43, you have green in the lower third, white in the middle third, and dark grey in the upper third; that is what I liked the best. For some reason, when you include the plain sky, it detracts from the dynamics of the ocean. Or the crop at 11:24 is very nice, too. If the sky were more interesting or you took a long exposure minimalist photo, then I would incorporate the sky, but that is just me. All-in-all, nice photos.
I just loved the turquoise color of the waves. Again I love your videos. The 'high seas' remind me of my days when i was in the navy. Just a little 'sea sick' but got used to it. 0:).
Well Kim what can l say about this video, l hav just got to hand it to you, you really do impress me with your videos, so thanks a million, & take care.
I’ve always loved the power and majesty of waves. I love the smells and the cries of sea birds. And I love them most when one can feel the ground vibrate as they slam into seemingly immovable cliffs. Your images captured stirred all those feelings in me. And yes, I could imagine that I smelled the salt and iodine. Great job. But my favourites were the first ones that just brought their incredible power to life for me. Cheers, A
Love the colors in the breaking waves, such a beautiful color....blue-green. I have not mastered the birds in flight yet. The timing to freeze them in flight is something I need to learn. You must be quick and have your shutter speed high. My problem is they are gone by the time I get the camera up to shoot. Can’t wait for the lighthouse coming in your next video. Stay safe...Fred in Texas.
Kim, this video was epic! I enjoy your refreshing approach to all your videos and this one is one of my favorites. The part I liked best is the slide show portion of crashing waves at the 4:11 mark. The music you chose complimented the slides so beautifully. If you do not mind me asking, what is the music you chose to accompany the slides starting at 4:55? it is beautiful and I could listed to it forever watching your waves. Keep up the great work on all your videos...so refreshing to watch!
Amazing pictures Kim. Love the colours in the sea and those big waves. The coastline is so beautiful, totally different to the coastline in my country. Another great video
Hi kimmy . for me it has to be the one of the waves crashing against that beautiful textured rock face it was realy transcending so powerful so intense , the music and narration , it was superb , I got to watch it three times , It was absolutly beautiful . When you make these videos they realy make you feel so close to nature that you can almost touch it . I loved it kimmy . Big hugs and kisses from our Rock ❤ . Ps it got my heart racing a bit there and all through out and a tear rolled down to the side of my face , you are the best 👌.🥰
Nice a usual Kim. Are you going to shot the Hoy High Lighthouse on Orkney? I saw that in Google maps. My favorite photos was the crashing wawes at 2:38. The Green color was special.. 📸♥️🍻
Great images & somewhere I would like to visit. It's hard to pick a favourite. When presented with scenery like that I always find it hard to isolate one image unless there is a very prominent subject. Nature is such a fantastic painter of light and texture.
The array of rocks leading a path to the jagged large rock was the most memorable. The last one from the opposite direction with the field in the background was also fantastic
I liked all the piccies, but especially the B&W ones. I like film photography and those waves and rocks would look great done with something like HP5+ with a medium format camera. Process them with Rodinol to bring out the grain and they'd look really moody and gritty. A thing to remember whenever you take piccies is that you're essentially taking a snapshot of an event in time that will never repeat itself. It's an unique moment that captures the Universe at that very precise time. Well, as precise as it can be within the limitations of the equipment.
I personally prefer the ones with the spray going over the land in colour. Nice to hear that you visit Hoy, as a piece of music of my wife is named after the island Hoy. So looking forward to seeing your impressions from Hoy.
The photograph of the sea with colour ranging from white through turquoise to dark green and two sea birds highlighted against the grey sky at 10:14 gets my vote, amongst a set I would have been happy with in my collection. I must get back to the coast soon, rather than being land locked in the middle of England.
Hi Kim, My choice of your photographs, is black and white, with the foreground of rocks taking you through to the sea and on to the sky and the large rock formation to the right, glad you like the 70-200 Nikon 2.8mm VR, great lens, you will get a lot of pleasure from using it, great flog.
I loved the intro music... The turquoise colours is my favourite, it's just the depth of colour and vibrant tones. Have you ever thought of doing poetry. Your story telling is fab.
Kim I liked the stills with the turquoise waves in the beginning and the last still with the juxtaposition between the dark rock with straight lines and the light foamy and fluid water.
Question. Nice work, by the way. And, that lens is wow. With my Z 7 in Adobe Camera Raw I see color processing noise in things like the water mass you have in your shots here. You use a Z 6 and megapixels aside (*), the biggest difference is that the 7 has no fuzzy filter (as I call the glass layer across sensors that disperses light a bit as a way to help color processing, prevent mosaicking and help anti-aliasing later on). However, I see the color processing noise with Z lenses not adapted F lenses. Also, I see the processing noise in Camera Raw but not Nikon Capture NX-D. And I don't see it in Capture One, but that has no profiles for most of my Z lenses. I need to pixel peep to see it. To me it is important as it helixes (**) up large prints and can helix up subsequent processing in other apps if these cannot do the raw processing. Q: Any trace of color processing noise in those waves? (BTW in my case there is solar backlight on the water that sparkles and I did not see such circumstances here. If you don't see it, does not mean Camera Raw processing is off the suspected list.) (*) 45.7 versus 24 megapixels (MP) seems like almost double the resolution but MP are an "area" number and to judge and compare resolution numbers, we need a "linear" number. If you want twice the resolution of 24 MP, you need 96MP. Or, 45.7 has 38% more linear resolution. Not a lot - just the removal of the fuzzy filter opens up new possibilities - like in the D800E - and introduces more risk of Moiré or color processing noise. (**) helix = screw
There all interesting and well done Kim 👌 I'll get off the fence and go for 7.41 because of the spay top RHS and 9.41 because the birds add life to the scene (I might have cropped out the sky here however but that's me). I always prefer colour again that's me (I have difficulty editing B&W) Finally Thank God it's not another video about the latest camera release 😱
I'm sure Gavin would be proud of your photoblending Kim! It's results are stunning 😊. It would be a great idea if you did a vlog dedicated to demonstrating how you did it (like an 'idiots guide' for us photoshop newbies)
When you first showed motion video of the location with the ocean looking a dark green to dark gray I was wondering what was so great about the location. Then you started taking pictures of the turbulent water with waves breaking. That is where the colors came out. You can’t control the weather so I feel you did the best you could. The color pictures were better than the black and whites. The last b&w’s you showed would have been interesting if done as a long time exposure.
Hi Kim. Beautiful place. I’m not going to choose one of the photos as I love them all. Funnily enough I did a short video called The a Crashing Waves which is on my TH-cam channel (loose term as I’ve only done 2 very short videos). Despite my channel name, I’m not in to video, which you would see if you watched them. Very amateurish, with cringeworthy music, but beautiful scenery. Take a look if only to get a taste of the beauty of a Cornwall. I think you’d like it. I love photographing the sea. The more drama the better. You seem to have good light that day, which makes it even better for capturing the drama. Lovely to watch. Thanks
I think you need to return to at least one place you show up in this video: freeze the video at 7:48 and you will have a nice abstract. It may or may not be better with waves splashing over the scene, possibly with a slow shutter speed. Although you might be able to recreate that kind of abstract in other places.
A stellar selection of images, set to perfect music and your own mesmerizing narration. Well done, Kim. We don't have volcanic coastline like this in the New York area; the closest we have is Maine. I am inspired now to go up there next Spring. I liked pretty much all your photos, but the ones featuring the seabirds were probably my favorites.
Great shots Kim ,I liked the B/W shots ,If you do get to come over next year to the Start Point Lighthouse ,give me a shout ,I could show some good photo locations on our Island . I run a F/B page called Sanday . if you'd like to see some of my varied shots :-) .
WOW Kim, this has got to be up there as one of your best vlogs, absolutely breathtaking. The crashing wave's the layers in the cliff and the colours in the waves. The images are STUNNING! and I really can't pick a favourite, every one of them is as good as the next. It's what photography is all about. Take care and stay safe ❤️
Black and white, seabirds, big waves and rocks are just👌
Hi Kim. Great video. Loved the voiceover/slideshow format. Always great to change things up a bit. My favorite images were the closeups of the waves showing the detail, shapes, and colors. I love the b&w, also the ones with the birds. I don't think we have anyplace this beautiful where I live.
Yes..great photos... Always love the coast photographs... Nature at work.. Thanks for video..
A great video with soothing music Ms Grant. I particularly loved your B&W photographs with the waves and the birds - the last one was very vibrant in my book. Thank you.
Fine video Kim done very well done in difficult conditions. Images for me the crashing waves against those steep cliffs.
Kim, love this one. I love the seascapes and the music on this video really speaks to me to match the mood of what you are showing.
Hi Kim fantastic shots showing the character of our seas beautiful and majestic waves really good stay safe and well.
Cracking pictures. the place and weather lends itself best to B&W. Loved the solitary seagull image.
Awesome video, I really liked the B/W images, the 2nd and 3rd ones where my favorite, you captured the moment , it was like I was there. Thank you for bringing us with you on this adventure.
A cracking video Kim. You're really rocking the close up wave photography. Thankyou
Absolutely beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
great photos Kim , hard to pick which one they where all great , ,great work enjoy your self ,take care and stay safe
Wow so beautiful photographs.

I had quite a number of favourite images especially number 1,6,9,11 and the B&W ones.
You capture a wonderful sense of the wildness in these pictures - favourites are 2:18 for the colour, 8:10 for the portrait treatment that shows the rocks in the foreground and 9:15 with just one bird soaring through the waves. Thanks.
Good eye to pick out the turquoise from the grey! My favourite shot was the B&W one with the leading line of flat rocks heading out to Mr. Rock Face.
Lovely photos Kim, beautiful colours in the waves
I love your channel, and am a subscriber (and also a fellow Celt from the Principality of Wales).

Beautiful!! Would love to take a trip there!

Wow. An amazing video Kim and incredible photographs. What a location. I am so glad that my friend Martin Thody recommended your channel.
Good to see the evolutionary process in your vision......looking forwards to future videos...stay safe..😘🌈😎📸
I just loved the turquoise color of the waves. Again I love your videos. The 'high seas' remind me of my days when i was in the navy. Just a little 'sea sick' but got used to it. 0:).
Very nice. All good photos.
Loved the jaunty intro music, the B&W shots with the white birds against the dark rocks worked a treat Kim!!
A favorite is too difficult ..... However, I think your choice of B&W working really well. Great video as always
I liked the black and white, but the colour shots of the waves were fab. Great video!
Beautiful vlog. I'm curious to see the second black and white photograph in color? For all the
color of the water in relation to the rocks.
Well Kim what can l say about this video, l hav just got to hand it to you, you really do impress me with your videos, so thanks a million, & take care.

Your photo remind me of Rachel Talibert. I love the epic power of the ocean, especially from the safety of terra firma. Great photos.

The f10/1.400/ ISO500 /145mm, perfect
just bought canon ef m 55-200 for my m50 with crop should be over 300 on prime day was on sale. Great video kim !
I loved the intro music... The turquoise colours is my favourite, it's just the depth of colour and vibrant tones.

Kim I liked the stills with the turquoise waves in the beginning and the last still with the juxtaposition between the dark rock with straight lines and the light foamy and fluid water.

I think for me my favourite images were the closeups of the aquamarine breaking waves.
My best shot was at the beggining. The rolling waves that were transparent. Super nice waves.
You might want to try doing some overlapping panoramic shots with the 70-200 mm to get more detail. The first set of rocks were my favorite.
I'm sure Gavin would be proud of your photoblending Kim! It's results are stunning 😊. It would be a great idea if you did a vlog dedicated to demonstrating how you did it (like an 'idiots guide' for us photoshop newbies)
My fav was B&W with white birds against dark background,
So has Nikon let you keep the Z6 now or have they extended the loan period? :)
My favourites were of the birds against the intense turquoise waves
Kim how are you finding the Z 70-200 mm lens .. i need it for more distance than my 24-70

I liked the birds that looked small, battling against Mother Nature.
What a wonderful video..and beautiful images. I don't know if I watch your channel more for the photography or the travel aspects.

Fantastic images Kim, Thanks for sharing.
The letterbox shot at 10-10 could do with the horizon levelled up.
Simply spectacular. Thank you Kim, beautiful video 🙏🏼💫

Thay are all marvelous. I wonder if the first b/w was more of a sepia tone if it would help,
Appreciate your work and sharing.
Stunning photos Kim 😍 a truly epic place 🤩
So hard to choose a favourite and love them all for different reasons
WOW Kim, this has got to be up there as one of your best vlogs, absolutely breathtaking. The crashing wave's the layers in the cliff and the colours in the waves. Spend some time talking about the islands, culture history etc. That would provide a nice back story for the images. Otherwise I enjoyed your video.
