'TNBAR' was supposed to be on LFL and the White Mustang video (which has the same plot) was originally meant to be for 'Record.' Her boo was too obsessed with fame and thought he deserved it bc he was the sh!t, but it turned out he was just a sh!tty person. - Originally, I thought "The greatest" was basically Lana saying she wants to retire, but I think in actuality she's just nostalgic for her friends and having a smaller music career in the past. I know though that she really enjoys where she's at right now and is not retiring (especially because she just announced she will be surprised dropping another album in the coming months). My personal favorites are "Love song," "California," "Mariner's," "Happiness," and ABSOLUTELY "Venice" + "Cinnamon Girl." 'Venice' breathes with its long instrumental passages and it's like something I've never heard before. 'Cinnamon' has that amazing beat but also has the string outro which has an atmosphere that is something to behold. The album as a whole feels like classic Lana but with a new twist. I think NFR is such an amazing album because it's the culmination of Lana's past records. As a fan, you'll know that this album "makes sense" within the context of Lana's mythology. Most of Lana's music is about her pursuing happiness: in 'Born to Die' she seeks happiness in beauty, men and a bohemian lifestyle; in 'Ultraviolence' she looks for it in violent relationships; in 'Honeymoon' she looks for it within herself and in peaceful relationships; in 'Lust for Life' she seems to have finally found it only to have it crumble as she looks at the world around her. Finally, in NFR she finally admits that she's not happy, but at least she can say she's not sad. That's why 'hope' is such a great finale to this album because it's her finally admitting that none of the things that she once pursued will make her happy because she'll never truly be happy, and that's okay; and that's why hope is a dangerous thing for a woman with her past to have, because she once hoped to be happy so much and it never came true and so she wonders if she should hope at all. NFR has elements from all of her previous eras: 'Cinnamon Girl' not only sounds as if it could belong on BtD but it also mentions cinnamon, which she also mentions in 'Radio' from BtD where she sings "Now my life is sweet like cinnamon, like a fucking dream I'm living it, baby love me cause I'm playing on the radio". In 'Radio', cinnamon is sweet, in 'Cinnamon Girl' cinnamon begins as something sweet and then develops into something bitter as her lover uses drugs and abuses her ("violet, blue, green, red to keep me at arm's length don't work"). Most of the songs sound like 'Ultraviolence' where she experimented with psychedelic rock and blues ('Venice Bitch', 'Fuck It, I love you'); others like they belong on 'Honeymoon' with their "lighter" production, ('How to disappear, 'Bartender'); and finally some even mention the anxiety-inducing world events that were a partial focus on LfL ('The greatest'). NFR is Lana at her best because it's Lana finally taking off the mask and admitting who she truly is: she contains multitudes, as she says in her twitter bio, and those multitudes are all present on this album, from her abusive relationships to her alcohol and drug-filled lifestyle, from her worries about the world at large to her constantly seeking happiness, only to have it fly away like a butterfly.
also the serial killer line in Happiness is a reference to her demo/unreleased track Serial Killer, which is one of her most popular unreleased tracks and is actually such a fan favorite that she performed it on tour!

Ashley, I think you will like Born tin Die so much. The album is more pop based and uses a lot of trip hop beats. I always recommend it to a potential Lana fan because it’s her most accessible album imo.
Jfbdi seriously? The first time I listened to the album was when I was having a really hard time, and me and my family would go driving at night. Everything was quiet except for the album playing. It was so simple and beautiful to just listen to it and look out of the car window. I remember trying to hold back tears while California was playing because it reminded me of my best friend who is no longer with me. It was so healing. Those were some of the best nights of my life. And now you're trying to tell me that's what she intended?! Sis really knows her art!

You listening to Love Song was literally me today. I was lying on my couch, crying, especially at the “it all comes down to are love song” part, thinking about how deeply I’ve been longing for someone to love so deeply. One of her best songs. The soft, melancholy but sweet melody is so well-written and emotive. I feel things in this song I’ve never felt from Lana’s other songs.

Most of Lana's music is about her pursuing happiness: in 'Born to Die' she seeks happiness in beauty, men and a bohemian lifestyle; in 'Ultraviolence' she looks for it in violent relationships; in 'Honeymoon' she looks for it within herself and in peaceful relationships; in 'Lust for Life' she seems to have finally found it only to have it crumble as she looks at the world around her.
Finally, in NFR she finally admits that she's not happy, but at least she can say she's not sad. That's why 'hope' is such a great finale to this album because it's her finally admitting that none of the things that she once pursued will make her happy because she'll never truly be happy, and that's okay; and that's why hope is a dangerous thing for a woman with her past to have, because she once hoped to be happy so much and it never came true and so she wonders if she should hope at all.
NFR has elements from all of her previous eras: 'Cinnamon Girl' not only sounds as if it could belong on BtD but it also mentions cinnamon, which she also mentions in 'Radio' from BtD where she sings "Now my life is sweet like cinnamon, like a fucking dream I'm living it, baby love me cause I'm playing on the radio". In 'Radio', cinnamon is sweet, in 'Cinnamon Girl' cinnamon begins as something sweet and then develops into something bitter as her lover uses drugs and abuses her ("violet, blue, green, red to keep me at arm's length don't work"). Most of the songs sound like 'Ultraviolence' where she experimented with psychedelic rock and blues ('Venice Bitch', 'Fuck It, I love you'); others like they belong on 'Honeymoon' with their "lighter" production, ('How to disappear, 'Bartender'); and finally some even mention the anxiety-inducing world events that were a partial focus on LfL ('The greatest').
NFR is Lana at her best because it's Lana finally taking off the mask and admitting who she truly is: she contains multitudes, as she says in her twitter bio, and those multitudes are all present on this album, from her abusive relationships to her alcohol and drug-filled lifestyle, from her worries about the world at large to her constantly seeking happiness, only to have it fly away like a butterfly.

"The song is about this time I took a walk late at night with a guy I was seeing, and we stopped in front his friend's apartment complex, and he put his hand around my shoulder, and he said "I think we are together because we're both similar, like we're both really messed up" and I thought it was the saddest thing I'd ever heard. And I said, "I'm not sad, I didn't know that's why you thought you were relating to me on that level, I'm actually doing pretty good". And he was upset, and that's when I wrote the song. I thought, I had to do so many times, where you know like I had to sort of step on that role where I was showing the way and I was sort of being the brighter light. Ashley, I think you will like Born tin Die so much. The album is more pop based and uses a lot of trip hop beats. I always recommend it to a potential Lana fan because it’s her most accessible album imo.

The first time I listened to the album was when I was having a really hard time, and me and my family would go driving at night. Everything was quiet except for the album playing. It was so simple and beautiful to just listen to it and look out of the car window. I remember trying to hold back tears while California was playing because it reminded me of my best friend who is no longer with me. It was so healing. Those were some of the best nights of my life.
