I've played many games like this, but this, right here, is one of the many things that make ToP so enjoyable to play. Makes level grinding so tolerable.
How to do Final Fury/Wild Blade Dance: It helped me to realize that it's not just a "do the inputs as fast as you can", it's like linking artes. Each input is responsible for a specific section of the combo, and inputting it too early does nothing. At the same time, invalid inputs are also ignored. Note that the game doesn't start registering inputs until the Cress throws his shield. So... 1. Keep alternating up-attack and down-artes; this will do most of the combo (and all of the combo if you're not using S&D sword). 2. During the second jump (where Cress starts glowing orange), input up+guard, then immediately input attack. The guard does the upwards slash, and the attack does the following jump, so if he doesn't slash you were too early/late with the guard, and if he doesn't jump you were too late with the attack. 3. After jumping mash attack, this does the slash flurry in mid-air. 4. During the slash flurry, mash down+guard to do the finishing explosion. Note: While the explosion does a lot of damage, it's actually safer to omit it to land faster. You're invincible for the whole combo, but vulnerable after the final hit. If you really don't want to eat a followup attack, skip this part. If you keep up the alternating up-attack and down-artes, you can even reliably keep the combo going while getting interrupted by Arche or Klarth casting spells. Only trips you up if they happen to cast right when you need to do up-guard+attack, but if you mess up there, you have a very short recovery time to just start the arte again.
Thanks for the awesome exhibition! Cless is my all-time favourite Tales of heroes, the original badass : the guy can CLEAVE pocket dimensions on a regular basis, and Jigenzan isn't even a Ougi ! THAT fact alone is a seller :p
HitsujiMamoru Jigenzan is so awesome :p It's one of my personal favorites too. I wonder if all those pocket dimensions and time-space distortions dont cause several paradoxes...
Kevassa02 You see the Tales of the World series ? This is a result of Cless' Jigenzan... no, scratch this, Cless is the one behind all these Marvel and DC multiverses !
Xjustin3009X That's exactly what he does. You see, this skill isn't a Tiger Blade variant, it's a standalone move called Shûsôraizan which could have been translated to "Lightning Talon" or something along those lines, which explain the kick (that was drop in every subsequent renditions of this attack... until Legendia lol) Lightning Tiger Blade comes from a mistranslation in Symphonia : the Unison Attack "Shûsôraizan" is composed of a lightning-type spell + Tiger Blade. In this case, yes, it could be seen as a variant, but it wasn't the case. It was an hommage to Phantasia, no more no less (Prior to Symphonia, Shûsôraizan hadn't appeared since ToP if I recall correctly !)
Oh ! Never noticed that : in the original SNES version, Cless kicked the lightning bolt into the enemy during Shûsôraizan ! Every subsequent games skip the kick ! It explains why the attack is named "Eagle Talon Lightning Slash" then, this was meant to describe the first part (Eagle Talon) then the second part (Lightning Slash)^^
wherrz de rm3 verzyuns? Anywho, this was pretty cool. Can't wait for the Absolute Zero patch for ToPX to come out, since to me ToPX is basically the definitive version of the game, especially since they actually remembered Eternal Blade from Eternia.
Cameo and crossover appearances will have individual exhs muuch later along the road. NDX will get its own exh for Cress too. (I know you were kidding but I'd like to address that for future viewers and stuff ;D) It may not be very apparent for Cress but ToPX is much faster. You'll notice in Arche and Klarth's soon-to-be-completed exhs that spells are INSANELY faster, aside from not freezing the game.

Right now the Playstation version is in english and translated by Absolute Zero and Phantasian Productions. However be mindful it has spell freeze, something that's not present in future Tales. Phantasia X would be a better option if you prefer faster paced combat but Absolute Zero hasn't finished the patch. The PSX version also is more cohesive with its mechanics which while old they all work just fine, Phantasia X has a lot of jank hahahaha. It's a pretty short game too, so no matter the version you pick you could replay the other one. I recommend personally playing PSX and Phantasia X, in that order, and if you're curious the Super Famicom version (which is also in english though with a kinda dodgy translation). Hope I didn't lose you!
Spell freeze is an old mechanic some ARPGs used like Phantasia, Destiny PSX, Star Ocean 1/2. Basically while a high level spell is cast the entire field freezes until animation is done. You can check Arche's exhibition to see what I mean. Eternia was the first game in the series to introduce real time spells. Well, novice spells were always in real time, just not mid/high level spells.
So that's how they look like in the SFC, he looks awfully similar to Claude from Star Ocean. That Shuusouraizan pose though, also that's a crazy Akisazame he got there 0_0
Hmm... Not only does Cress has all the usual sword and fist tech he also has combined version with most of it~ that final fury is nice as usual hehe~ guess it's his perk as being the first~

This video is sweet. Will soon make my detailed comment regarding the usefulness of Cless’ artes on both the original SNES and PSX. Everywhere I look at Gamefaqs or at other websites they don’t do a good job in detailing the usefulness of Cless artes’ along with the combo potential of these artes. Same as well for Cless’ Ougis.
Technically you seen them all since ToPX added them * trollsmile * But really I'm not including Cameo or Crossovers into individual Exhs because I'd dive right into epylleptic trees xD
Curses, foiled again! I do like his little cut in when he does his one Pheonix attack (it had a different name in Eternia, I forgot it). Instead of the usual full image of the character it's just a close up of their eyes. I like when they are shorter animations like Graces had.
Once I'm done with main games and playable characters I want to continue with enemy attacks later along the road. And crossover games (oh man now THAT will take forever) So SOMEDAY I'll get there. Maybe. I love shorter animations too by the way. Eternia had really good usage of lightning fast animations.

You need the S&D sword from beating the secret boss of the Colosseum (beat it I believe 10 times, including killing the Galf Beast each time, then the secret boss will show up instead of the Galf Beast). To unlock the move, you need to have the sword equipped during a level-up when you're hitting 100 or higher. This is only in the PSX version or later. To execute the move, you have to input a combo string: attack, artes, up-attack, down-artes, up-guard, attack, attack, down-guard. Some tips: It helped me to realize that it's not just a "do the inputs as fast as you can", it's like linking artes. Each input is responsible for a specific section of the combo, and inputting it too early does nothing. At the same time, invalid inputs are also ignored. Aaron Lopes Yep, you must see the little flashback scene and go from max HP to low HP in one fight and then press the guard, attack and artes button. It should work.
You can trigger a flashback event by sleeping in Miguel. I think you need to have entered Dhaos' Castle at least once. You should get "Master of Secrets" title. In GBA I think the combination is A+B+L+R.
See! He's not even that OP in his damn game, why TF is he an unfair monster/enemy in Tales of Eternia/Destiny 2? Sure I can beat him, but at the cost of multiple reverse dolls. Which robs me of my satisfaction of defeating him because you can't outlevel/equip this SOB because unlike other superbosses, he's supposed to be only human like my character (Reid Hershel).
Who knows probably after they defeated Dhaos from his own game, he might've been time travelling or travelling to another world finding someone who's worthy but I dunno. This is just a pure speculation. xD
It's sad how many effects actually got WORSE in the newest game because instead of being animated sprites, they're just a bunch of very bland flashes and light gradients.
The voice acting of Cless from SNES is so epic.
Yeah, feels like he a got a roaring lion in his throat :D
As much as I prefer the PSX version otherwise, I miss his SNES voice lol. Ogi: Shishi senretsuha!
