FTSS: Understanding How Transportation Affects People and Communities

A well-developed and maintained transportation system moves people and goods, while ensuring mobility and accessibility for all. A robust transportation system also supports economic vitality, enhanced quality of life, and various other people- and community-centered objectives. Although the benefits of transportation are expansive, a transportation system that is not developed with people and communities in mind can create disproportionate burdens for certain population groups. This talk will discuss how transportation and communities are interrelated and describe the impetus for integrating population considerations into transportation. We will learn more about key concepts in transportation decision-making, relevant federal guidance and policies, strategies to analyze transportation needs, and approaches to improve mobility and accessibility for all persons.
