The Disney and Pixar franchises along with several Nickelodeon, Warner Bros., Columbia, Paramount, Universal and Manga franchises are finally becoming a series of complete collection bundles, but some continuations are missing and some bundles haven't been created yet. All of that needs to start.
Disney needs more mid-budget movies that are not franchises. For the tentpole release strategy to work, first you have to have a tent. In theory, *The Black Hole.* should have taught them that lesson.
Sending $ 8 billion to a competitor targeting your most profitable segment is never ideal.... Even half that sum could steal significant marketshare from the parks right now.
How about selling the 20th Century Studios and 20th Television library/IP (minus the 20th-produced Marvel, Star Wars, and Avatar content), plus Searchlight Pictures and FX, instead? Purchasing 21st Century Fox was the straw that broke Disney’s back.
I think Disney should instead of trying to buy more entertainment, networking stuff, they should focused on their other businesses that they already have and did those add-ons to the parks and the projects that they’ve been promising. I believe if they Will lose even more Disney Park visitors .
Hulu is a US service. In other countries Disney tends to run those shows on Disney+. I expect they'll eventually merge Hulu into Disney+ and use it as an excuse to raise the price of Disney+ to help cover it's cost. But initially they'll likely bundle the two together (in the US) to help sell more Disney+ subscriptions, then when they do raise the Disney+ price it will seem more affordable since it will include Hulu shows.
that's the wrong perspective buddy..... the market's focus has shifted to ads to prop up streaming. Hulu's ad model is mature and robust already with 90% being ad-tier. That model is doing magic on Disney+ in no time it is now outpacing Netflix with 50% of all new subs being ad-tier vs 30% for Netflix. it's ads ......
@@FriendstoyourendI wouldn’t say Disney+ is shutting down it’s just not going to be like it had been sort of like how HBO max is after the rebrand to max even though it has already started bringing over some Hulu content in the late summer but it would make more sense to have one app that has Disney Hulu and ESPN all together cause Disney is making content for 3 services unlike Comcast and Warner brothers who only have to make content for one app max and peacock so it would make sense it they manage to buyout Comcast to just roll it over onto Disney+ under a Hulu banner cause I could see them getting rid of Hulu and ESPN+ and streamlining everything into one app like max and peacock that have live sports cause trying to be mostly Disney only isn’t working for Disney+
Here is my biggest question about the idea of selling the TV networks, would a sale like that include all of the shows that exist already? Or would it be more like buying the actual channel (could be renamed) while Disney keeps the content? It'd be really weird to see Disney sell ABC and lose shows like Agents of SHIELD or Once Upon A Time, both produced at least in part by ABC, and both (more-so than most shows) are very much DISNEY shows. Like if Once Upon A Time wasn't a Disney show, it would have looked WAY different, especially in later seasons.
Pelts also has the control of the shares of the guy who sold Marvel to Disney. Odds are Peltz will gain at least one spot on the board and some are estimating he will probably get 2 seats and maybe even possibly 3 seats on the board of directors. While he himself may not be on it, he is going to at least try to get Disney back to Disney. Also don’t forget the $2 billion dollar deal with ESPN and Penn for gambling. You know something that Disney is 100,000,000,000 % against. You cannot even buy state lottery tickets in all of WDW. That is the whole property including independent Gas stations.
While I'm PRETTY sure Walt would not have approved of gambling on Disney property...he wasn't exactly in favor of booze being served, either. So...perhaps we may see a gambling joint in Disney Springs? Or in the Wide World Of Sports complex, because ESPN?
Hidden Mickey at 9:12. I guess the future of Streaming wars will involved Mergers included Discovery and HBO Max, Disney and Hulu, Paramount and Showtime. This is why I will never understand The world of Business.

Disney needs to start their own airline or atleast do a helicopter taxi service from MCO, SFB and ORL to the STOL airstrip on property. We all know that running an airline is very expensive and their profit margins are tiny, but it would be another merchandise line and a niche service for those who can afford it. As we also know disney never misses an opportunity to make a buck.
To me any short term subscription increases Disney+ gets could largely be attributed to there acquisition of the the international distribution rights to doctor who that effectively forces international fans of this show like being an American fan with the deal it can no longer be viewed on BBC America in America or abc in Australia cause in my opinion there isn’t much to keep people subscribed to the platform unless u were around in the 80’s and 90’s and want to watch those animated shows again but that still isn’t enough to hold people
Selling FX would be insane as FX content makes up a significant portion of Hulu content whether this American Horror Story or Feud. Allen wouldn't pay to licence these franchises which are key to FX identity. In addition, not all pay TV channels will die with some living on in the form of TH-cam TV or Hulu's own service. Selling ABC would be bonkers. Right now the networks service an older demo; however, Disney needs to encourage affiliates to live stream all content so to reach a young er r demo. In turn, valuable digital frequencies can be auctioned off for cell/wifi & garner huge profits. Disney should be pushing ABC, especially news division, to be first streaming network with 7 day VOD window. Disney Plus was unnecessary with full Hulu ownership, ESPN, and a streaming ABC. Disney would benefit from a FAST/AVOD service like Tubi to bring in additional profits given massive under utilized library
I really do not think they will sell the major channels such as ABC or Nat Geo, and they really won't sell the programming that comes with them. The biggest concern now would be are they putting too many eggs on the one basket.
I don’t think so either. I think the news stations are a goner. And a stake in ESPN and HotStar will go. But that will all raise around $20 billion for Disney. Flush with cash.
I would love to see Hulu essentially become Disney's "Non-Disney" streaming service, where it moves all the Fox stuff that doesn't fit the Disney "brand." See, Disney's long understood the need to have a separate studio for that exact purpose--Touchstone, of course...and now "20th Century Studios" (formerly 20th Century Fox). Hulu is the best platform for THAT, while Disney+ can center on everything we naturally associate with Disney itself--including Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm--without the risk of that being drowned out with all the Fox content (aside from Fox's musicals, of course).
Content wise: Handmaid’s Tale, Family Guy, American Dad, Sunny in Philadelphia, Only murders in the building, Prey etc. But the big selling point is 48 million subscribers, 4 million of which are paying $90/month for live tv.
@DSNYNewscast Then all these, and I really mean all these movies and TV shows and these adult animations that are only made by or made for the HULU Originals app, must only be kept there, and not to be mixed up or be confused on Disney Plus or better yet, DISNEY SS (Streaming Service). Anyway, would it still be honestly nice to keep the Disney Plus app as it's own?
Disney earnings are all smoke and mirrors. Their movies this year all sucked. Their streaming content has sucked (Star Wars), etc.. The subs numbers on the streaming service are suspect. If it wasn't for the OVERPRICED parks they would have lost money. Bob Iger needs to go, and so do most of the board members. I hope Peltz wins out.
52 million subscribers in India, where users pay $2/month isn’t as big a deal as it would be if they lost 52 million US subscribers. “Churn” is normal for streaming services as people unsubscribe at certain times of the year and then re-subscribe later. Disney and every major company operates with billions in “debt” all year round. It’s how business works.
All that matters is that Disney should build a real life Bob's Burgers restaurant and an It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia bar at Disney World. If they don't, the Fox / Hulu acquisition is essentially meaningless. 😊
Might as well build Futuramaland too. I was at Comic-Con in San Diego, and Hulu had a big walk through/photo op area themed to Futurama and Bob's Burgers. It was fun!
It’s not just Peltz and his shares alone. Word is he’s combining his along with George Lucas & Apple who is the single largest shareholder in Disney stock. So yeah, that takeover could still happen.
Apple don’t own shares in Disney. It’s Steve Jobs widow, Laurene Powell Jobs that owns those shares, as previously Steve Jobs had been the single largest shareholder in Disney. And she is on other end of the political spectrum from Peltz and Ike Perlmutter. So doubt they would work together.
We’ll have to wait and see on this one. But as it currently stands, Hulu is already integrated into Disney+ via a beta test. And having used it, I will say that it offers a much more well-rounded experience on Disney+ to rival Netflix/HBO Max.
What are the odds that the "strategic partner(s)" Disney's looking for regarding ESPN could end up being the big sports corporations themselves? NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, FIFA, etc?
I wouldn't pay £13.99 a month, £7.99 is enough for me. If Disney are serious about increasing there prices to £13:99 then they should consider allowing for new movies to be streamed as part of the costs and bring out more movies for audience. I look forward to hopefully meeting you at the end of the month Jack or perhaps on the opening event of the new Epcot fireworks 🎆 at Walt Disney World. Not that Disney will listen. Disney needs to use the Fox film catalog to supplement the films on Hulu. Unless ESPN can wrangle in pain in the a$$ owners that don't televise their home team ( looking at you, Avalanche owner), I wouldn't count on ESPN as a competitor to cable.
