The Battu is an item of pure dance and is considered the most difficult item of Odissi dance. The dance begins with a series of sculpturesque poses depicting such actions as the playing of a Veena , Mardala (Drum) , Cymbals (Manjira) and Flute, depicting the dance sculptures adorning the temples of Orissa.
Music composed by: Pandit Bhubaneswar Mishra
Raag: Mohana
Taal: Maalika
Performed at I.C.C.R. Azad Bhawan, New Delhi on 19th March, 2017

😅😢😮😮
I loved your graceful dance. I am 67 years old took up. Odissi dance in early seventy. Who is your Guru who inculcated the correct dance form. God Bless!
I am learning oddisi for the last 6 years. And I love it
I'm learning from last one year, it's amazing ♥
Classical dance means peace
You're so lucky!! ❤️
Same here except I've been learning for 5 years but I've known the dance form and my teacher since I was 3 years i think
I am also learning for 3 months but I'm still learning so much..
This is one of the hardest dances in oddisi and it takes a lot of energy to keep dancing for almost 10 minutes
Exactly - 9 minutes and 10 seconds 😅
Stunning! One of the best dances i have seen! Its like music being personified!
mesmerising Natasha!!..U r so graceful,,,,I am still in a daze..after seeing it for 4times..really trying to comprehend that u r real!!!💙💙💙💙
She IA nitisa
Astounding grace and precision! Beautiful, beautiful!
are you odia Nitisha? if not, i wonder how non-odias understand the recitals they are dancing to so well so as to depict it flawlessly in their abhinayas n mudras. would be so difficult indeed to translate into in the classical renderings. Anyway i must add that you are an exceptional dancer who moulds so sublimely to each form be it modern, belly dancing or odissi. Kudos to you and God Bless
Sarthak Pattanaik Das yes she is an odia.
Even if you're not Odiya, guru can translate and explain. People all over the world learn Odissi, let's not limit its scope.
@@nm9688 no no i had no intention of casting any doubts or aspersions. In no way i wanna limit the scope of Odissi, i for one i m so proud that its being so widely promoted, acceptedn praised. i just conveyed my amazement n utter respect for all the people who understand, feel n translate the beautiful verses into such artistic geometrical dance poses that are so divine and aesthetically pleasing.
As a Bengali orissi dancer usually guruji translates or I can just understand as it’s similar to what I speak.
@@Avantisnailsspure Odia is very different from Bengali, not similar at all. It's very hard for Bengalis to pronounce Odia, but even an Indian child can pronounce Bengali.
Wow...such a graceful and exquisite interpretation of the Battu. So flawless in every step executed with full control and mastery of her art. Way to go, Nitisha 👏👏👏👍👍👍!!
l am learning odissi for the last 14 years and i just love had my odissi 3rd year exam last year and i saw this dance and last year and i saw this dance and practiced and so thank you ?❤/
Mindblowing, awesome, beautiful!!!
Wonderful! I like your expression and the precision of your steps and mudras. I use this video as help, to get me through the dance practice. Thank you for this great performance!
I love this dance. My teacher says me that this is a very complicated dance. I am learning it now and I it is very difficult. My teacher says sthyai is the lower version of batu.
Yeah you r right battu is the lower version of oddisi l also lerning odissi from 3 years it is the 4rth year. it is very complicated dance and is very difficult also but through this only it is now the unique and beautiful dance in the world.
I mean battu in this
Battu is the lower version of sthai
Sthayie was first composed by Panakj Charan das, Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra elaborate with many steps, ask your teacher, if they have such knowledge, Panakj sir dance is neat and clean.
@@pjackson065but Sthai is easy to learn rather than batu every guru's form is neat and clean only.. batu is actually hard and takes at least a year to completely perform.. The bada sthai of Debaprasada das is also very difficult... Pankaj guru Ji's style has been very direct and neat and easy but Kelu ji's style is very intricate there are minute details! That's what makes it much beautiful!!
What a Devine profermance!!!!
Amazing performance... Really loved the dance

so nice 👌👍👌👍👌
5:00 I remember this being the most painful part like wow my butt and knees hurt for like days after
Lol same 😂
Yep haha 😅
I still can't do it! Someone give tips pls. My left feet toes hurt too much
oh my gosh.. I can relate so much i literally still cant do it lol my toes always hurt!
I started learning Odissi at a late age (23) I was trying this part for a couple months and I was not able to complete it, until now!! I suggest standing on this pose every day for one min, also streching your feet every day before dance, this stretch often goes neglected. Lastly, you can put pads in your knees if they hurt. Hope that helps!
Good good good good good good
Very very very very impressive...

Thank you so much I wanted this music and because steps because this is also what my guru taught me
aap ki koiii jabab nehi
My mother abhilasha was ur friend
Namaste! Beautiful! Is this Kelu sir's choreography?
Yes
I think so no because my teacher is Guru Ratikant sir's student, and Guru Ratikant sir is the son of Padma Vibhushan Guru Kelucharan sir's son, and even my teacher also follows Guru Kelucharan's dance style, and she did not teach me this style of Batu.
@@bananimohapatra11 batu is created and choreographed by Kelu ji but in West Bengal there's another form of Batu which was modified by Poushali Mukherjee and Kelu ji called as Bati Sthai which is combination of Pankaj ji's Sthai and Kelu ji's Batu so that might be it.. bit when we Batu it's usually referred to Kelu Ji's Batu only!
Beautiful

very nice but as a Odissi dancer myself i felt like some of the steps were appearing a bit loose and you could have sat in chouk and tribhangi a bit more to make it more clear and show the strength and energy but otherwise very beautiful and gorgeously displayed
