I have seen some comments said that "Why Qing have cannons?" Just for clarification: Early Qing emperors are very enlightened and they knew and were willing to and they surely used gunpowder technology weapons, because they had seen the lethalities of gunpowder weapons during the long campaign with Ming empire to rule China, even Nurhaci emperor was killed by cannon of Ming's territory army... But after Qing take the regime of China, and after hundreds of relatively peaceful time of ruling of Qing empire, the Qing emperors were tend to become too cocky and satisfying to the present technology level of war and deny to advanced in this category , and they thought that "advancing is the betrayal of traditional curture"....So Pedantic.... @@delmont2793 That's right. The Tang Dynasty guaranteed Silla land south of Pyongyang as a condition of cooperating with the destruction of Goguryeo and Baekje, but Tang broke its promise and tried to dominated the Korean Peninsula. However, Silla defeated the Tang Dynasty in 676 and defended the Korean Peninsula. Later, the period of Silla ended and during the period of Goryeo, the Korean Peninsula was protected by winning the war against the Khitan in 1019. During the Mongol invasion in the 13th century, Goryeo was defeated by Mongol and became a vassal state of Mongol, but unlike many Chinese countries, such as the Jin and Song Dynasty which were completely destroyed, Goryeo was maintained as a vassal state in 1270, and in 1356, the Mongolian interference organizations and pro-Mongolian factions within the Korean Peninsula were purged and removed from their status as a vassal state of Mongol. Koreans fought during the invasion of the Red Turban in the 1360s, and Korean eventually killed all the Red Turban who invade Goryeo. and in the 1380s, they won the war against the Japanese pirates who made the Korean Peninsula hell. In my opinion, the military weakened because the peace was too long in the period of Joseon, and as a result, unlike the Silla and Goryeo periods, it failed to adequately respond to foreign invasions.

@@devinsen363 the Battle of Myeongnyeong was a naval battle. Whole different ball game there. The Strait was a tumultuous place that caused multiple Japanese ships (none of which had cannons btw, only guns) to collide into each other. @@ggyy311 Cannons were an absolute game changer, but there was still a way for fortifications in this era to resist an attacking force with cannons. This answer was the European Star forts. In the late Ming, certain military officials actually petitioned for the Ming military to adopt the construction of star forts across china, but the deteriorating situation of the government meant that only a few small ones were built. The height of traditional strongholds basically became a liability at this point, as they became increasingly susceptible to cannon fire. The tall heights and square design of the walls also meant that there were way too many dead zones for the defenders to effectively return fire with their own cannons. While star forts did provide certain advantages with their sloped walls, their main advantage came in the form of its design. The angular designs meant that the defender's cannons could basically cover most if not all angles of attack. We typically remember Koxinga today for driving out the Dutch from Taiwan, but it is often forgotten that Fort Zeelandia actually fought quite well against pretty overwhelming odds. Koxinga tried to take the fort through a direct assault, but was immediately met with a large number of casualties. The Qing Dynasty of Manchus who made the Han Chinese into slavery. the Qianlong Emperor ordered to publish a history book that summarizes the history of the Manchu people. It's called Researches on Manchu Origins (欽定滿洲源流考). In describing the history of the Qing Dynasty, all the Han Chinese dynasties that existed in China were excluded, while several dynasties in the Korean Peninsula were recorded as their own histories. At that time, the Manchus regarded Koreans as brothers or cousins of the same lineage. Although it is the most important historical book of the Qing Dynasty, the book has been neglected by the Han Chinese. According to their logic, the Manchus were not Chinese, but were of the same ancestry as Koreans. In other word, Han Chinese were enslaved by a kind of Koreans. Because of such a history, the Han Chinese are naming all kinds of foreign peoples, including the master people who made them slaves, as Chinese. Native Americans, British, Germans, Italians, and countless other ethnic groups live in the United States, Americans, however, do not call British, Germans, and Italians American people, nor do they call their indigenous culture American culture. However, the Han Chinese have a complex in which all ethnic groups, including their master people, living in China must be named '56 Chinese' to be freed from the complex of eternal enslavement. According to that logic, the indigenous culture of the Korean ethnic, called Chaoxianzu, one of the 56 Chinese, is also Chinese culture. Therefore, things like kimchi and hanbok are Chinese culture. As they try to save the face of the Han Chinese, a nation of eternal slaves, such an irrationality follows.

This movie did everything wrong. For example: -*Canons shoot at wall once, it's enough to crumble it. WRONG! It takes many days of bombarding a single section of wall to collapse it.* The movie had such an opportunity to portray what it is like to be under constant bombardment, and didn't take it. -*A single breach is portrayed as a big deal. WRONG!* A single breach is a bottleneck that's disastrous for the attacker more than the defender. -*No one is fighting or marching in any sort of formation, ever.* Soldiers march in a loose group of rifles, crossbowmen, spearmen and swordsmen. -*Even when cavalry charges at them, the rifles stay at front, and at no point are replaced by pikemen/spearmen.* Could it be that koreans were so stupid that they didn't know pike and shoot formations in 1630's? Is this what this movie is saying? -Somehow, everyone hears the officer shouting orders in the middle of the battle. -Armor is like paper. -Most footsoldiers are armed with swords, not polearms. -They send the blacksmith on a suicidal mission. Why the blacksmith? The movie also implies he was the only blacksmith the fortress had. -Little is shown from the perspective of common soldiers. It's just constant back and forth between the king and his one-dimensional advisors. Also, very funny how the advisors can echo the words their representative said in unison. Did they practice for it? -The movie shows from the very beginning that the plan to defend that fortress was always a VERY BAD IDEA. It's underlined at every possible moment, to the point it's silly. It makes everyone who decided to defend despite such overwhelming odds look like a suicidal imbecile. -Thus, when they finally surrender, the scene of king sloooowly prostrating himself before the Khan is not sad nor tragic nor melodramatic. It's just silly. It was the obvious outcome. And if it wasn't supposed to be obvious, the movie made no effort in portraying that, we weren't given any clue, any number, any ray of hope that maybe the idea to defend wasn't so bad after all. -At the end of the movie, the conservative proponent of defence says "things will change for the better only when we all pass, and king passes, and kingdom passes, and all old things pass away....". Yeee, just drop feudalism and install democracy already. That's totally what a noble in 17th-century korea would have said. And probably more, but whatever. The traditional stronghold strategy is useless for now on because of the cannons, and that's the point...

I am from India and I believe our forts were majestic because of the constant seiges and battles they were in, it was made to depict power and welfare to other kingdoms/foriegn ones. Every kingdom differed in this pattern though like the marathas, rajputs(the above forts you mentioned are mostly from rajputana), carnatic and sikh kingdoms. Over time the royals built their capital there, lived there especially in case of many rajput kingdoms such as chittorgarh and it became the grounds for political and economic development apart from military purposes, unlike many east asian countries who made it to protect the capital city. I believe Korean forts were made in chinese/japanese style architecture (as most of them were built during the three kingdoms period) which was mainly used for defences purposes only until I think hwaseong. Another reason I can think of is the topography. This are just my thoughts on it which I made through the limited knowledge I have so I maybe wrong.
@@sakshiiii1270 also because Korea at this point hasn’t seen any major invasion for centuries beyond occasional nomad raiders and became a extraordinarily corrupt beaurocracy, at least until Japan invaded 40ish years before this movie’s setting.
@@schoolofgrowthhacking In fact, until the Goryeo Dynasty, walls were built more than 10 meters high, just like in China. However, after the Joseon Dynasty, there was no reason to fight China and their tactics were changed. so there was no need for high walls.

No one cares.
@@koryoball No one cares because no one like Vietnam. Firstly it's all come to being the favorite or not. 90% of the world hate Vietnam for being a independence nation. Meanwhile South Korea is the most favorite country in Asia aside from Japan. Secondly it's all come from culture influence. Japan has anime, sushi, car brands and girl in kimono. South Korea has Kpop, kimchi and car brands. Vietnam doesn't influence the world. Instead, we get hated so much just because we fought against invaders. It's all come down to being the favorite or being the influencer.
The world is like the parents, the countries is the child, the weakened and poor countries are the miserable one who get bullied and insulted, the developed and influenced are the favorite or the hardworking ones. The hardworking ones are often seeing as the superpower like US, Russia and China. Whereas the favorites like Japan, South Korea are the famous ones because they has anime and Kpop.
Because a nation that is not self sufficient and to other Peoples for help is not worthy of being an independent country! Ok

@@trietlyhoahong926 Harsh words but true.
This movie did everything wrong. For example:
-*Canons shoot at wall once, it's enough to crumble it.
It's a bad movie, it lacks historical authenticity, and fails to makes us care about the conflict portrayed. You cheer for the antagonists, but probably because you don't see them enough to witness them doing dumb and illogical things like the main characters do.

If Joseon did not accept their demands, Joseon would eventually perish and disappear. At this time, the Mongolian and Chinese Ming Dynasties perished and were absorbed into the Manchu Qing Dynasty.
Mongols were forced to marry Manchu royalty. The Chinese should have forced the Babarian hairstyle of the Manchus. for 400 years
On the other hand, Joseon was able to defend its country, but there was a lot of interference from the Manchus.
