Usually we don’t get to see much of the player cams so I find it cool seeing the background with all the top players just chatting and chilling. I don’t know why I find it so surprising
For real! Funny thing was, this was literally a dream come true, I'd actually been hoping to see a match between Maister and Tea specifically. Was NOT disappointed! Was rooting for Tea since I'm a Pac-Man main, but I knew Maister would put up a fight, and he REALLY did!
Pacman biggest pain is the hydrant. It's a pain playing on half a field. You can't dash until it's out of the way and it's hard to upsmash pacman because of where he drops it.
If I could contribute anything to analyzing Maisters gameplay then it’s this: I’m nowhere near his skill but I’ve had one “aha” moment with my own G& W. And that’s when it’s close and I’m doing well and putting on damage then I don’t always stress going for the final kill. I’m on a roll with winning neutral and stacking up damage, the other player is struggling, I might as well get them up to 200 and then they’ll lose if I sneeze on them. Doing that instead of going in close looking for an up smash or down smash has made me win more of the really close games. I’m not even in elite smash so I understand it’s not the same but still somehow I sometimes feel Maister gets a bit impatient when it’s time to close the match. Just my 50 cent :)
I think I can see what you mean; Maister is really great at keeping up his pressure and capitalizing on his advantage once he wins neutral, but it does feel like he tries a litttttllleeeeee bit too hard to land as many hits as he can on the opponent sometimes, especially if he's behind a stock. That said, I believe he'll able to work out the crinkles in his gameplay X3

Near the end (especially the last stock), Maister was trying way too hard to force his way through Pac-Man's zoning, particularly with trying to get rid of the Hydrant as fast as possible (something Pac-Man players WILL capitalize on). When Tea saw that, he basically got the hard read on every thing Maister did, up to the finishing blow.
Up B into hydrants, running into pac man forward smashes, messed with the usage of hydrant (he dealt with it everytime when you can pretty much just ignore it) which got him into getting stock deficits.
I think it’s because Tea has won more respect in general from the community. He places higher in more tournaments than Maister. If Maister and Dingus Joe could combine their game and watch skills I think we would see a top tier game and watch because Maister has a solid defensive game while dingus joe is good at being an aggressive game and watch
Rubber nothing I’m saying that Dingus Joe and Maister are pretty much on the same level of skill with Game and Watch but they both have skills that the other is lacking. Tea is often called the best Pac-Man in Ultimate right now and he is an entire league above Maister so that’s why Tea gets more hype.
Tbh I feel like Maisters success is purely off cheesing. G&W is so uncommon at high levels that most pros that face him have no familiarity with the matchup, the technical skill he displays isnt anywhere near theirs, they just arent sure how to respond to certain things. Light is a perfect example, watch their fight and you can visibly tell Light is just confused about how to counter and approach. Maister will never win a major tourney with his subpar skill and mediocre character. Least he can brag about cheesing wins off better players with MU knowledge advantage.
That just sounds really ignorant. No amount of character cheese will get you to Top 64 in a major. Because if we go by that logic, solo Ganons would be running rampant in Top 64 since he’s pretty reliant on cheese from getting a good Smash attack read at mid-early percents. Maister has the skill to make it far in these majors, even if his character is considered pretty mediocre because he as a player has the skill and the knowledge to take his character far.
