"Is this all they had to worry about?"..... one of my favorite parts of the game because Ellie only knows this world as a chaotic and dreadful place. She would give anything to have a life where her most troubled worry would be if a guy liked her back or what she would wear to the prom instead of constantly worry about death every day. It makes all our problems seem so trivial.
Ashley Johnson said something about Ellie not having had any "golden age" like "normal" teens are supposed/thought to have, in an interview along with Neil Druckmann, it's somewhere around here.
But I don't see her yearning for prom or the likes. Not every girl's dream is to be the princess riding with her white shining knight into the sunset looking like a living barbie doll. That is not to say she wouldn't like to have a boy like her (she would probably prefer a girl liking her but that's irrelevant in this case).

I love how Ellie says “everyone that I have cared for has either died or left me every one except for you”, she basically tells Joel she cares about him. And this scene breaks my heart for Ellie and Joel. I think Joel really does care for Ellie but doesn’t want to get too attached in fear of losing her like he lost Sarah or he feels that if she does stay with him he won’t be able to Protect her and she’ll end up like Sarah. Best game I’ve ever played btw
The whole scene is a one huge goosebump. You can clearly see that Ellie is extremely insulted by what Joel said, because her parents died, some of her best friends died, and the only thing why would people even want to talk to her is that she's immune - no one really needs her as a friend or smth. So this is the first time in the game when Ellie clearly doesn't find right words to express how she's insulted, even though she was never at a loss of words before in any situation. If this doesn't give huge goosebumps, I don't know what does.
@@stam1ska Ellie was so in need of love it breaks your heart. A big deal is made over Ellie being gay because of how she was with Rielly. I don't think Ellie is gay in a being attracted to girls kind of way. I think she just wanted to be loved and Rielly filled that need. Marlene loved Ellie probably in the same way Tommy loved Sara. It is who Ellie went to when she and Rielly were bit. A Male figure showing up in Ellie's life, protecting her and caring for her would have filled a huge hole in her life. Joel's whole life had been wrapped up in Sara and while he would never admit it, he had a need and desire to love like that again.
Ellie: "Everyone I have cared for, has either died or left me. Everyone, f***ing except for you." Unfortunately, Ellie is both right and wrong about this.
@@connorambrosino1741 Joel gets beaten to death by Abby with a golf club in TLOU part 2. Ellie goes to get revenge but also ends up getting beaten to death with a golf club. The second half of the game is just you playing as Abby after you killed both Joel and Ellie.
The thing is its true, Ellie was born into that hell of a world, she knew the in and outs of day to day, end of the world life. Joel was a young man when he saw the world he lived in crumble and become a shell of its self. Sarah was the one thing that connects him to his old life and its seems that ellie makes him feel like a father again. When he heard ellie say he's not her daughter you can see the hurt amd pain he felt. Aww man the feels bro.

1:28 Ellie’s mini speech here is probably the most heartbreaking thing I’ve ever heard in a video game. I’ve watched it so many times and I fight back tears every single time.
I saw this interview with Troy Baker and he was saying how when they were motion capturing this scene, the part when Ellie goes "Everyone in my life has either died or left me, everyone- fucking except for you" and she pushes him, that part wasn't scripted. That was just Ashley Johnson being in the moment. It makes the scene hit that much harder.
It's these kinds of Joel and Ellie moments that people were looking for in the last of us 2. Although it did have some of those moments through flashbacks, maaan, joel's pathetic death negated a lot of it.
pahfucy franfran she doesn't have any personal connection to the game, how can she be biased lmao People are allowed to love and hate things. Just because someone likes it a lot doesn't mean they have some sorta bias

This is so deep. "Everyone I have cared for has either died, or left me. Everyone except for you! So don't tell me I would be safer with someone else because the truth is I would just be more scared"
Very emotional part i agree, but you could try seeing final scenes of these movies: Ghost, Gladiator, One Flew Over the cuckoo Nest and maybe Terminator 2
The problem with Hollywood is that it's a land filled with only rules and traditions. If a filmaker wanted to make a project this huge like a live-action movie of The Last of Us with huges decors and all that stuff. It wiould demand a R rating and a giant mountain of money. And honeslty...It would probably beat the one billion bar. There's two problems with Hollywood; "mind-unreachable producers" and the "Hollywoodian norms". But due that this game was this HUGE in every kind of sucess. Hollywood will adapt it to the big screen.
I feel like when Joel says "You're right.. You're not my daughter" is him realising and just coming to terms with that sad truth because he looked at her as his own.
The relationship between Joel and Ellie WAS The Last of Us. How could they take everything that made the first game so damn beautiful and touching, bring it into the second game, and completely tear it to shreds!
Because there's no point in repeating the same story. Naughty Dog said that they had no interest in doing a sequel unless they had something new to tell. It's ok not to like The Last of Us Part II but don't think that there are people who don't like it. I for one liked it a lot more than the first game.
Because they live in a violent, cruel world. Joel was never going to get a happy ending, especially not after he single-handedly ended the Fireflies. He's not a BAD guy...but there's a reason when he told Tommy what he did that Tommy KNEW it was something that should be kept secret. Actions have consequences, and in a world where people have very little to hold on to it was kind of inevitable that someone was going to remember him and go after him eventually.
I cried watching this again after I've watched everybody played part 2... I will miss this Joel and Ellie. If they EVER gonna make a part 3, it'd better be Ellie waking up from a nightmare and Joel runs in to hug her.
Part 2 is a great game actually, how can we forget it? I mean the did the same game but with more emotion and similar story. Stop telling that game is shit thats because they killed joel. I mean, it had to happen, i wouldnt want him to be dead so early in the game but come on, that game is an art too
Kaan Most people that hated the game didn’t hate because of Joel dying. They hated it because the way Joel died and the way the game told its story itself was SHIT, the characters and their actions were not convincing according to their personalities and the situations they were presented in. And all this made the game way worse compared to the first game regarding storytelling, characters, and character development.
SuperSanic are you kidding? Characters and their communication with each other and their personalities, even npcs have that, are amazing in that game. The way joel died, yes we can discuss that, I wouldnt want him to be killed by a girl that uses golf club either. That was not the death Of Joel in my mind. But you cant say that game is shit just for that reason. Its not better than the first one, but sure as hell Its an art too.
God, the voice acting is so perfect. The nervous shake in Ellie’s voice when she brings up Sarah, Joel’s choking voice when he says “You have no idea what loss is.” So perfect.
I like how in the scene almost prior to this, Joel pushes Tommy in a similar manner when Tommy refuses to take Ellie to the Fireflies for Joel. In that scene, Joel is being his grizzly, rash, quick-to-anger self. Then you have this scene, and Ellie is actually the one pushing Joel, in almost an identical manner. It's kind of symbolic of how Ellie is the only one in Joel's life who can really affect Joel and dares to push through his tough exterior. Joel is usually the one trying to control situations, being bold and brutal to get what he wants as a survivor. Only for Ellie to come along and so easily push against that and call him on his bullshit. She's the only one who succeeds in getting past Joel's tough exterior and reach the deeper parts of him--that little push from her in this scene is kind of symbolic of that. Superb writing from NaughtyDog.
@@bitnaejulgeikon6024 the sequel is just a clusterfuck that disgraces arguably 2 of the best characters in game history. All because Druckmann wanted to insert dumbass poltics and make Joel and Ellie seem like villains, justifying Abby's charcter.
@@deagle.2 I believe that this is the point of the games. In the world that fell apart nobody is either a villain or a hero. There's no rules here because everyone fights for their life. We get to play Abby to see a totally different perspective, to see that there are other groups of people having their own shenanigans. I think that the sequel is not THAT horrible if you look deeper into it.
KahnArtizt same bro, at end of the day people struggling to accept it ain’t always gonna be a nice ending in a post apocalyptic game. 'You have no idea what loss is' That line, the way he says it, this scene and the way they act it out.. there's more quality here than in the whole TLOU2 story.
yeah, feel like a big slap in the face. The same guy that wrote this write the sequel, its like during the project he hit his head to some golf glub or some shit
@@TheMinhthe Pretty sure one of the dudes who was involved in writing the first game didn't write the second one. So he wasn't around to filter out shitty ideas that the lone director for TLOU2 came up with
+ivyredrosecherry .-. It's motion capture. So the voice actors not only did the voice, they acted it out and then animated it. Look for the behind the scenes, you will see how they act it out.. They did the face expressions and all that
I saw somewhere that this particular scene was hardest on not only the actors, but on everyone. They kept doing the take over and over, because even if they got their lines right and whatnot, they couldn't quite put their finger on why it didn't feel right. It wasn't until whoever played Ellie improvised at 1:07. It was a very well done and honest scene indeed.
TLOU2 just never struck a chord this emotional. This moment is so damn indicative of what made first game unforgettable and the 2nd game never sniffed this.
I would have liked this game more even with Abby in it...if they just gave Joel the time he deserved. Joel is the last of us. There is no last of us without Joel because he is what makes that game amazing. Man fuck tlou2 I'm replaying this game tomorrow
@Youre Gonna Need a Bigger Boat I don't believe Amy had any role in the first Last of Us, but hell my knowledge of the company is pretty limited. I think Bruce Straley had some control at least when it came to Neil, and therefore the first game was much more subtle with some of the different subjects, and better because it wasn't all in your face per se. Uncharted 4 was where it was pushed a bit more with the stupidity of Nadine, but thankfully the game was still amazing. Idk what I would've done if U4 had been given this kind of baffling treatment we see now.
@Youre Gonna Need a Bigger Boat no. Neil was working on TLOU while Amy was writing the story for Uncharted 3. Neil was responsible for TLOU, The DLC, originally Amy wrote the story for U4, but he somehow had gotten more control than her and abandoned almost all of the story. Then Amy left the company

@@christopherbrown2467 I'm sorry but how do you know this game is going to be a masterpiece when you haven't even played it yet. Also saying "fuck you both" from out of the blue is pretty disrespectful in your part.
And this is why the second game can’t come even close to the masterpiece the first was. Scenes like this proved why JOEL and Ellie’s relationship is what made it special.
The first game does a great job of combining both Joel and Ellie's story, Joel lost his daughter 20 years ago, trying to survive and get guns just to live another day, Ellie never experienced life before the apocalypse and cannot get infected, while the people she cared for die. Through their journey was the most amazing story telling with the people they meet, close calls in many moments, while having bonding moments of both of them needing each other. But in the end made Joel happy that she's alive, but left Ellie bitter about his actions. This shouldn't have had a sequel, as much as Sony see's this as a massive cash cow like God of War or Uncharted, their leaks for the 4 years of development wasn't people expected, you know what I really thought was a great idea? This whole time I thought that the nameless character (Abby) was kept secret because they never explained Ellie's parents, the whole time I thought the second teaser trailer was the past, since Joel's adventure started 20 years after the outbreak, what about the other years, after Ellie's birth, but no. It's just some random daughter who Joel killed a random doctor, never knowing who the hell the doctor is making the whole "unknown character" even dumber. What's even worse is that Joel only had like 2 scenes that are less than 5 seconds of screen time the whole time they reveal bits and pieces of it. Imagine if Kratos in the next games he was shown far less and Atreus 90% of the game. Then gets fucking killed by a random oger because you killed the first boss of GOW4, that's how it feels with LOU2. Should have had someone else than a brainwashed pro SJW just to pander to people who won't ever buy their games.
@@purity_2428 Agreed, but the sjw topics in question are still a bit annoying, as it is very distracting putting those sort of controversial subjects in something where we're trying to escape reality. I am in no way homophobic or against any of the other identities, but not everything in entertainment NEEDS representation (Disney and CW should take notes). It's gotten to such a point where every time I see it (especially in popular films where the main plot has nothing to do with it), it's clearly very forced. Even some of the people they're trying to represent don't like it. Now, the first game was the perfect way to handle that sort of thing. The reveal of Bill's partner did add to some of his character, despite his rather brief appearance, and it worked since it was subtle. If the new character Abby is actually transgender, that's already far beyond what could be considered realistic. You really can't explain how one would successfully undergo a change in that environment where all supplies are scarce. She appears to be rather young, so being that the outbreak was over 25 years at this point, I don't think it's likely she changed beforehand.
@@arksredemption937 In the first game Ellie knew she was about to die if she has to for the cure. TLOU is her deathmarch, thats why she is so fascinated by the "old world". She should be dead just like everyone around her, she feels guilty that shes immune, she wants meaning to her life at least. But eventually Joel and Ellie find way to eachothers heart, give meaning to eachothers life once again. Thats why it doesnt make any sense when in TLOU2 Ellie snaps on Joel when she finds out the "truth", which was heavily implied in the first game she already knew. On top Joel was the most hardened, vicious guy, never trusted anyone but he gets ambushed and killed because his amateur foolishness. Even Ellie in the first game did not trust David....a little girl! So meh...TLOU2 is not a bad game but if you use the original characters, use them and dont rewrite them for the sake of the plot. Thats why many people dislikes TLOU2.
It's a good thing it never got one. The story ended perfectly, and the relationship between Joel and Ellie hit a peak that can't ever be topped. Unfortunately, a sequel is inevitable, because ND needs money and knows that there are millions of gullible idiots who will get on their knees and suck up any story they come up with. Hopefully it'll be a good one, and not a cheap generic revenge story...
If he gave up Ellie to Tommy or did literally anything other than murder everyone in the hospital, he's probably still be alive. He dug his own grave tbh. I actually thought he was gonna die after the stunt he pulled at the hospital in the first game so the fact he doesn't make it though part 2 surprises me not one bit.
Such a smart, lovely and genuine scene. After June 19, people will return to this scene and think "what went wrong with the team that made this game?" I think well all know what went wrong.
Imagime shitting on a game that hasn't been released yet "but boohooo the LeAkS", we don't know if those are in the actual game, there are so many unreleased scenes from tlou 1 including but not limited to the game ending with everyone singing their lines
This was the best scene in the game for me. I didn't cry once during the game, but this scene got me going pretty good. I was wondering the whole game when Joel would mention his daughter to Ellie but it was actually Ellie that mentioned her first. And when Ellie said that everyone left her except for Joel with tears in her eyes, that was pretty intense, too.

His fear almost came true because of Ellie not going with tommy
'You have no idea what loss is' the way he says that gives me goosebumps
you can hear that he has problems to hold it back...

Man the left behind DLC adds so much weight when Ellie says she's lost all the people she's cared about. It makes this scene even more powerful.
@Marcus Backman That would have been a much better way to go. I was so disappointed with the story, such a kick to the nuts.

The nervous shake in Ellie’s voice when she brings up Sarah, Joel’s choking voice when he says “You have no idea what loss is.”
So perfect.
To bad naughty dog ain’t the same...
To think that the same company released the hot pile of garbage that is part 2.. Wow

And this is why the second game can’t come even close to the masterpiece the first was. Scenes like this proved why JOEL and Ellie’s relationship is what made it special.
TigerXtm And they royally fucked that up too
The first game does a great job of combining both Joel and Ellie's story, Joel lost his daughter 20 years ago, trying to survive and get guns just to live another day, Ellie never experienced life before the apocalypse and cannot get infected, while the people she cared for die.
Then gets fucking killed by a random oger because you killed the first boss of GOW4, that's how it feels with LOU2.

at least someone explains why this game is bad instead of sjw bad

GabeLogan how?
I was wondering the whole game when Joel would mention his daughter to Ellie but it was actually Ellie that mentioned her first. And when Ellie said that everyone left her except for Joel with tears in her eyes, that was pretty intense, too.
Just come back here to see Joel face again after The Last of Us part 2 trailer reveal yesterday. He's only shown his beard in that trailer so,... yeah. I miss him too.
Gnork B'yoink THE FEELS😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😭😭😭
Gnork B'yoink Will he die ?
WELL. TAKE A GUESS.
Coming here after the leak's for part 2
Shame the second game didn't live up to this level of greatness
This is probably the most emotional scene in a video game I’ve ever seen. I literally cried the first time I watched it
