    As an oldest daughter with alcoholic parents and a mom that shares a lot of similarities to Monica, Fiona’s speech to her makes me cry every time, and just their dynamic in general is very relatable. Fiona really had no choice but to take on the role of responsible parent for the rest of her siblings because of Frank and Monica, and I totally get her frustration and anger at both of them.
    It is soul crushing when you lay it all out for them and they still refuse to acknowledge the pain they caused you or your siblings, and how you can see they are still only thinking about what they want instead of what is best for their kids. Like not only is she dealing with the damage they have already done to her, but now she has to deal with the fact that despite everything she has sacrificed and done to protect her siblings from having to go through what she did, it feels like it is all for nothing in moments like this where they come in and blow up all that stability she has been working to build for years all in an instant. I completely understand that “what’s the point, I give up, I’m done” feeling she has.
    I also appreciate Debbie in this episode for being able to recognize how much Fiona does for others and how someone needs to help her too, but at the same time makes me sad to see that dynamic of siblings having to be each others parents and act like adults when they are still just children. A girl Debbie’s age shouldn’t be worried about stuff like that, she should get to be kid too.

    Oh man, this episode is just one gut punch after another, but it does just set the tone for the rest of the show.
    That line “you were my mother too” from Fiona is one of the most heartbreaking ones for me of all 11 seasons, it just gets you right in the gut, and Fiona becoming so scared and hurt after she says it - almost like a little girl - just kills me. A smaller part of this episode that also got me was Mickey when Ian was so upset, he really does have a softer side that we’ll learn more about, Ian just gets under his skin and they’re a lovely little pairing.
    Shameless really is one of those shows where you really don’t know how to feel sometimes, who’s right - if anyone even is right, it really is a great show to pull apart and I’m so glad you’re enjoying it!

    As a kid who’ in foster care, and been in a group home. It hurts having helped raise my siblings while trying to defend them from alcohol and drug abuse issues we were faced with. Especially since we’re apart of a minority and face lots of racism and prejudice in the system. And everyone having the addiction gene makes it so much worse.
    So seeing Monica suddenly come back hurts like hell, as my bio-mom once did the same thing. After my older brother passed away (OD’d), at the funeral we saw our mom for once, and it was a big thing. Everyone had a different memory of her and how she is, so imagine our surprise when at 5e end of the funeral she suddenly announced that she wanted to be our mother again. Then took our youngest sibling to live with her so she could have a “fresh start with a clean slate” since my youngest sibling couldn’t remember her.
    And then, when my younger sibling returned just under a month later, this episode really hit close to home.

      It’s things like this that I had in mind when watching this but then there was too many crappy things she was doing now that kinda starts to cancel out those supposednesses. It’s a big part of why I didn’t cry along with Fiona. My mind was too wrapped around trying to see it from the moms point of view in order to be objective. It’s usually how I try to see all things. But she is definitely fucking that up right now.

    Emmy Rossum (Fiona) is one of the greatest actresses I've ever witnessed. I actually came to know her through "Phantom of the Opera (2004)" movie, and she blew me away then (such a voice!), and throughout all of Shameless she was the character that would make me cry the most. I think because she portrays this scenario so well of being an "adult", and yet also a cynical and hopeful "child" that maybe someday, her parents would change and be there for her. Sheez, I just have so much empathy for that character.

    • @7DeadlyBananas
      @7DeadlyBananas  ปีที่แล้ว +9

      That’s a tough one. Kev is a homeboy 😂 a diamond in the rough because of his big heart. Sheila is like the introvert version of that 😂 but brings something completely different to the show over all. A truly unique character in almost every way when compared to pretty much everyone else. She has a childlike obliviousness because of her agoraphobia. It’s an innocence only matched by Debbie, only Sheila combines it with her “adult” side, if you know what I mean 😂 not just the dildo stuff 😂 but her understanding and open mindedness towards the world that enters her space.
      Shes afraid of going outside but not of being herself. She lets her daughter get away with WAY too much but that daughter knows her mom loves her no matter what. She’s totally neurotic about keeping things clean and in order. But, doesn’t do it just for herself, she does it for everyone that enters her world also. She loves people, which is not a usual thing I think.
      Kev is dope and we would hang for sure. But Sheila is special. I would have to say Sheila takes the top.
