Ever since I was little, for as long as I ever can remember, I have always cried to this song. When I was little I never understood why it made cry, I wasn't sad or anything, but when this played I cried loudly and tears covered my cheeks. I was scared of this song for my entire life so far. Now I'm 20, and this song still makes me cry just as bad, but I now know why I cry, it's because it's so damned beautiful!!! I will never stop crying to this song ever.
You too? Were you scared of this song like me too or has it always just made you cry? In any case it's cool to know that a person somewhere on earth reacts or feels the same way, but even cooler if we share a similar story. :)
I have this song in my head for a long long time. It always had touched me in a very unique way, i cannot explain. This happens to me eveytime i'm faced with something extraordinary beatifull.
With you brother. Dude, I went to school with Cambodian refugees in the late 70's early 80's & saw the movie when it was released. My emotion is for the the victims of genocide which is what is soo powerful about the way Oldfield has Asianised/modernised a old european script & made it emotional. Have been a fan of Oldfield since a teenager.
Have you seen The Killing Fields? Maybe you did when you were tiny, don't remember the film but do remember the music. Incredibly sad film. Excellent song. If you haven't seen the film you should watch it and if this song doesn't bring a tear to the eye after seeing the film you're not human.
Recuerdos de la Alhambra is such a masterpiece of the classical guitar... If we could pick one iconic piece at classical guitar this piece would be for sure one of the most cited
Have you been to Cambodia ?? Was there in 2004 and i highly recommend it , yes its a very tragic sad recent history with alot of evidence of that still remaining there , but i had a really amazing and very hospitable experience amongst those gentle kind selfless people and Angkor Wat is truely mind blowing. If you have not yet already been there, you should really make a visit sometime 👍🙏
This is a song which tells a hundred stories in your head when you close your eyes and picture it. I was 11 years old when it was released. It was a different world then. It was a good year in my life but a year that contained a lot of bad news for our country. It was a song for our times and it was played on the radio many, many times. I was always glad to hear it. I still am.
this song chills me to the bone. how can sadness and beauty be so close. mike Oldfield got this so right when you see the movie. when i watched this movie for the first time i also heard imagine by John Lennon for the first time. what a combo.
Born from the ugliness of humanity through one of the most brutal genocides of the 20th century, we have this beautifully composed piece of music. Never forget the lives lost to such a senseless conflict. This music may be heard, but the silence of death still lingers over.
This song is so AWESOME..........and with each and every instrument added, I still get chills. This song gives hope, sadness and still ......................... emptyness.
A lot of people title their videos nowadays with asmr. The opening bars of this track always give the shivers up my spine and the back of my head... It's absolutely haunting. Beautiful.
i have sherch the song for long time, and yesteday i find it, tnks Mike of this musique , her sound stay in may head frome 1995 wen i her it in the first time
This tune was not composed by Oldfield. It was composed by a Spanish composer called Tárrega. It's called Recuerdos de la Alhambra (Memories of the Alhambra), classical Spanish guitar piece.
Yes, we all know the fact this is a rearrangement from "recuerdos de la Alhambra" from Francisco Tárrega, yes, this is a rearrangement done using Cambodian ethnic musical structure, YES, WE KNOW!
Yes, beacause in original it's a tune Recuerdos de la Alhambra (memories from Alhambra). The most famous tune of spain artist Francisco Tarrega... Alhambra is a something like castle in Granada, founded by Mauretans...
Before this cover of the Tárrega piece "Recuerdos de la Alhambra" there were many others, perhaps the first "electric" cover belongs to the spanish group Los Relámpagos, about 20 years before the one of Oldfield, an as good if not better than Étude.
I have a theory about this music video. In the movie, (Killing Fields) the boy dies, in this music video he's looking back at what he went through with Pran.
Who is still listening to this amazing beautiful music?

Mike Oldfield loves forgetting composers
@@albaevropa4693 Francisco Tárrega is a forgotten composer? 🤦

Classical SPANISH guitar, rather.
One of the most beautiful and haunting pieces of music ever written...
Today 40 years ago Mike´s soundtrack album to this movie 'Killing Fields' was released! Cheers! 🍾🍸

Amazing piece of music.
0.43 - 0.48 is one of the best,most heart-warming things I've ever seen.
Certainly the best I've seen on TH-cam.
This was one of my father's favorites!! He would have been 48 this year!!!

Just an amazing piece - there's nothing like this. Some people find it too far off the beaten track, but it's genius

Sheer masterpiece so soothing & understanding
Superbe reprise de cette étude.J'adore
Genial
Beautiful song, great version, great movie. I don't forget. April 2021.
Mein Liebling von Mike ❤❤❤

The tune is better with a video clip. Good 80s atmosphere.
Recuerdos de la Alhambra. Francisco Tárrega.
Such a talented family !! Thanks 4 this beautiful work...
acctualy original song is from francisco tarrega - requerdos de la alhambra... check it out, thats a masterpiece...
Cierto. Recuerdos de la Alhambra
Looking for this comment.

I annoys me a tiny bit always, that some artists lack the courtesy to at least mention that they worked on someone else's work.
Ok, I do agree, but I'll forgive him just because he's Mike Oldfield, an artist. Of course, Tàrriaga, the author, deserved more than a mention.
I've always loved playing along to this on the treble recorder over the years.
Gran tema de Francisco Tarrega!!!!
Simon Cook was the director......brilliant! What a talent. X

Francisco Tarrega's "Recuerdos de la Alhambra" (Memories of the Alhambra), arranged for electric guitars by Mike Oldfield.
Yeah , i'm reading this now on Wikipedia Fransisco Tarrega page.
Came here to check it out.
Oldfield is able to catch the mood of the original song and translate it to his field. He was highly inspired reviewing this theme.
