  • Heat can be a great addition to a regimen if used sparingly and correctly. But what is the correct temperature to use with heated tools while avoiding heat damage and what do you need to look for in a flat iron/hair straightener? It's time to lift the lid on the materials that flat irons are made of and how they help your hair.

    I was under the impression by the title that you were going to give us a specific kind of flat iron brand and why you think it’s the best. Thanks for the info, although I’m a little disappointed at the misleading title

      I think the point is that many flat irons fit the description as "the best". The best according to me may not be the same for you. I personally like an extra long cable lenth and teeth in my flat iron. Some people may be more interested in titanium plates and curved edges...

    I'm a flat iron junkie! I have ceramic irons, steam iron, irons with built in combs. I've had ceramic tourmaline but I have always stayed away from titanium because I keep hearing they damage the hair easier than the others, less forgiving. I want ahead and bought my first titanium iron last year and it has given me the absolute best results. It handled my roots like no other. One thing I did learn is that it needs to be used on a lower temp than ceramic irons. I have found that to be true. I can get straight results on a lower temp. 380 on a titanium iron is not the same as 380 on ceramic. Great video, subscribed!

      I'm afraid of titanium irons too. I have dense, waist-length type 4 hair. I have a ceramic flat iron and I've tried using it on 410 but it only stays straight for like 30 minutes lol. I'm going to bump it up next time (430-450 deg) and see if that makes a difference. If not, titanium it is! 😂

      @@Kmishelle: 430-450 is very hot. Are you using a heat protectant? They usually help silk presses last longer. So does pressing in smaller sections.

    Ceramic flatirons don’t straighten the same as titanium. I can use the ceramic and 450 but it won’t straighten as well ass titanium on 400.

      Wow. That’s crazy. I can get bone straight results with a ceramic iron at 400 degrees Fahrenheit. But I have to flat iron in very small sections, use slow passes (one pass is all I need), and use a heat protectant. My silk presses last 3-4 weeks.

    Personally I’m relaxed and 410 is best for me, yeah I can get away with 390 but if I want my straight hair to last I use 410 I have course and very thick hair naturally btw but it is relaxed even though it’s not completely straight even with the relaxer it’s more texlaxed

    • @Blackhairinformation
      @Blackhairinformation  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s interesting but it makes sense seeing as you have coarse hair. I really don’t need much heat to get completely straight but my hair is medium to fine and definite fully relaxed not texlaxed like yours.

      I had damaged hair in my 40s due to years of relaxers by stylists with questionable ability / products and the use of high heat “Dominican blow dry”.
      I now relax and color every 16 weeks with a great stylist who uses the best and safest products on my hair and when I get it blow dry it’s always at low to medium heat followed by one pass hair straightener with excellent results. Please be careful with your thick beautiful hair . I wish I had been in my youth ✌🏽

    I’m a little confused. You started with ceramic as number 1 but said for number 3 you said titanium and said it’s the best type of flat iron to have. I was under the impression that ceramic was the best one since you said it’s the most basic that we’d want our flat iron to be comprised of.
