So the perfect way to explore this beautiful Dutch city is by boat! And that is also the reason why they call Giethoorn ‘The Venice of the North’ or ‘Dutch Venice’. Already one tip when visiting Giethoorn: check out the nearby De Weerribben-Wieden National Park. At over 10,000 hectares, this National Park is the largest continuous bog in Northwest Europe. That makes it the perfect base for sailing, cycling, and walking!

This is a good reminder to visit Giethoorn before the tourists return. I live pretty close by, but nowadays it's no fun anymore because it's so crowded.

WoW I never knew that. I am catching up here with one of your older video’s. How nice to see Giethoorn when it is quiet !
We've been twice, once was really early spring before anything was blooming and it was packed! This past summer we went as well and it was still busy, but obviously with local visitors and students. Had a great vibe but canals still got packed in the afternoon! My best recommendation is to stay the night (we did it both times) since you get the evenings and mornings without crowds 😁 We live in Amsterdam and don't have cars so we just try to get the earliest train in and spend as much time as possible there!

Yeah, if it gets busy during covid-times, you can only imagine what it would be like during high season. I can remember in summer it will usually go on national news when there are boat-traffic-jams in the canals of Giethoorn...
That's true. We already had a mini boat traffic jam while we were there. Can't imagine how the peak season would look like.

Loved this place.. even with the many tourists..it couldnt detract from the beauty. We went there in Sept 2019 and it was full of hydrangeas and looked so picture perfect in photos. Really liked going around the Netherlands.. you reach everywhere in a few hours!!

I/we, my wife and I loved this video! We have visited Giethoorn as it was on our Netherlands "bucket-list" A truly fairytale place. Since that time we have been back to the Netherlands many times staying for as long as three months in 2017. A truly beautiful country with so much to see/do/enjoy. Unfortunately Covid and all its annoyances, restrictions, tests etc. etc. have put a stop to our travels there hopefully only temporarily. I did chuckle at your story about the Dutch woman who advertised Giethoorn in Beijing China subsequently resulting in a deluge of tourists from China. We have been there in "high" season and have seen the "results" of that advertising and I can truly say that I I sometimes feel sorry for the residents of Giethoorn.

And about Giethoorn, that true. We can't even imagine how packed it would be in the peak season..
@@LetsMeetAbroad Although it's a very difficult decision to pick a favourite place in the Netherlands, as for me, for a large city it is Groninghen and for a village it would have to be Thorn. And then everywhere else in between! Den Bosch, Utrecht, Maastricht, Waterland!
And when you in Giethoorn, do ALSO VISIT BLOKZIJL, you will love it :)

Hello Shree and Shubh. Glad that you liked the video. Could probably get crowded as this weekend it will be nice weather. Well, we stayed at Myra's parents house which is in Emmeloord, so we didn't have problem with sleeping that night.

It is possible in one day, 3 to 4 hours in Giethoorn is enough! But it's a long trip from The Hague.. with an overnight stay you can also check more of the surroundings 😄

How much did you spend for renting the boat?
I believe it was 30 euros, not the cheapest, but that is always in touristy places

good day people, 3 days ago there was discrimination in giethoorn with a resident who is not Dutch. I don't recommend a single tourist to come to Giethoorn anymore. Because every inhabitant of Giethoorn has discriminatory behaviour.
