    Thank goodness you put this video up. I've just bought a Singer 331k5 for leather, and at the last moment she told me it's fast. I want slow, so will now be looking for a speed reducer pulley, then re-watching this video! It was nice to actually see you, after watching several videos of you being invisible except for your hands :). I also noticed the beautiful cream hand sewn leather cover on the support post...Update, I've now ordered one of these tiny pulleys :)

    Thank you, thank you, thank you for this video!!! I make costumes for theatre companies for a living, and I have always wondered how to do this. Almost every time I work for a new company, I find an industrial machine that is too jumpy and quick for anyone to use. I have wondered for YEARS how to do this very thing. All your videos are extremely insightful, straightforward, and helpful, but this one will help my life the most by far. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!

    That's a lot of work. I like the servo motor, just turn the switch and your done.
    Great video as always Cechaflo!
    ANSWER:
    +Brady Jones Definitely, a servo motor wins! ...this video is useful, just in case we still have not bought a servo motor yet...it isn't the ideal 100% , but it helps a lot to slow down the speed.

    felix jorgge
    maestro ....que tamaño de pulley recomienda para costura de cuero y vinyl? 2", 3" ????
    ANSWER:

    Thanks. Very helpful. Made both modifications to my Singer 241-13. Took a couple of hours including a trip the hardware store for the new pulley and belt. I'd say it about halved the speed and doubled the distance your foot has to move to activate the clutch. Makes the machine much more user-friendly for an amateur like me who only uses it every couple of years.
    ANSWER:+David Edwards I also do upholstery off and on as a hobby and my machines work pretty nice at a low speed...nobody is hurrying me up(lol)

    I just picked one of these up...awesome machine...I want to slow it down but if I don't have to buy a servo motor that would be awesome...where do I find these pulleys? any hardware store? if I can save money buying one of these then that leaves more money for materials to make projects...

    So which is better? To fix your machine this way or to purchase a servo motor? I have a Juke walking foot machine and it sews way too fast, I do auto upholstery and would like more control over my machine.
    ANSWER: +Jan I think the best way is to get a good 'servo motor'. I could say these tips are just in case.

    I have a cheap chinese domestic sewing machine that came with a small ac motor ,meaning a very high speed and very hard to control, so I did replace it with a DC motor from one Baby Lock companion 7000 and added an Arduino board some electronic stuff and no works like a charm! I am inthe process of adding some sensor to the shaft to control the position.Love your channel ,I have learned a lot,keep the good work cheers!

    I have looked at some of your videos. I am just learning to sew. I have 3 antique singers all over 100 yrs. old and one C.W Wiliams that is from 1873. I got treadles just for this reason to go as fast or slow as I want. The industrial model singer I want for the sewing in your videos is the singer 29k-58 walking, multi directional foot. Would this be a good one to get for upholstery and to learn on with your videos?
    ANSWER:+alibabafurball I learnt to sew with the sewing machine of my mother, an old singer with treadles...these machines are very strong and for life...I remember, I did some adaptations to do upholstery and sew with a thicker needle. Things were simple...1. I drilled through the hole of needle plate to make it wider, to let the thicker needle (140=22) run in. 2. I remember that also gained some more 'stitching length' by letting the 'stitch lever' a little lower (I only filed a little the inferior part of the 'housing cavity'...I didin't touch any internal mechanism.
    3. I changed the 'standard presser foot' for a 'rounded presser foot I had to regulate a little upwards the 'needle bar'
    You can start doing upholstery with the heavy duty 29k-58, although it was designed for a shoe job...to do upholstery is advisable a 'flat bed table sewing machine'...your machine has a 'cylinder arm' (useful to make bags or sew on rounded shapes). You would need to adapt a 'table box', same level of the cylinder arm and get a 'flat bed'.

    Hi. I love your channel. Thanks a million for answering my questions. Do you have a suggestion of a small pulley size for the singer 241-12? I just got my machine and I need to slow it down.

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Perhaps you could find a small one on the internet, ready to be installed. Another better option would be to remove the one that is on your machine motor and take it to a lathe operator and tell him to make a similar one but of smaller diameter.

    Hello, thanks for the information in your video. Could you please let me know if the oil pump will still work effectively when slowing the speed using pulley or even servo motor? I have come across some information to suggest that the oil pumps were designed to run at higher RPM? I just wasnt sure if it would still perform the job OK when slowed. Appreciate any further help you can provide. Thanks!
    ANSWER: +Marc van Zyl Interesting remark! As far as I've realized the 'oil pump' continues working if the machine is at a low speed...of course the oil also flows slow but fulfills its lubricating function.

    Great work! Can you posts the website where you bought the smaller pulley? My idea was to connect the A/C plug of my sewing machine to a Variac to reduce the incoming voltage to the sewing machine. Eddie Van Halen used a Variac to lower the voltage coming into his guitar amplifiers to create his "brown sound."

    This works good for a manual oil machine.But not so good on a auto oiled machine.I have found out if you adjust your clutch motor you have full control of your sewing machine I have done this with my Singer 191D-30 sewing machine.I had a servo motor on it for a while but it does not oil your machine very good a high speed.But this setup works great on my Singer 20u 109.Adjusting your clutch motor is not hard to do but you will have to do it a few times before you get it right or I did anyway.

    +Cechaflo thank you for your very quick answer,I really enjoyed looking at your videos. Man.. you are a MASTER!! and the link you post for the PFAFF machines; Just Great. I definitely LIKE the model 2545 from what i read and see on you tube. I am sorry to bother you again, but i really want ask you one last thing.....(I Hope ( :
    you are perfectly right about the thing that it depend on what kind of work we do, and that is also why i asked you the question about which Machine model is suitable for people with our hobby. but the thing is that at the moment i bin doing more and more bags and a bit less upholstering, now my question is: if I will continue to do most of the times Bags and Pouch do you think that the PFAFF 2545 Basic/normal would be unnecessary, and a waste of money? --( I want clarify that of course any decision I make is totally up to me and my responsibility 100%my decision only, But I just want to know what do you think Because as i said I respect your knowledge and your work)-- Now, do you think that if i stay with the bags i might not need such kind of machine like the 2545 or do you think is even better with the 2545 and i can t go wrong?...from what i saw on the internet i really like it better than any other machine.
    Cechaflo Sorry for this super long message but i can t really find people with the mix of skills like you have, i mean some body who knows about upholstering, material, and sew machines inside out and all-around is difficult to find...Your work is ART Amigo mio.
    PS i wonder if you Happen to know the pries of the 2545 in Mexico or in the US
    Thank you again for teaching me so many things about Upholstering Have Great DaY Maestro.
    ANSWER:
    +takes2home I think that a Pfaff 2545 would be a good choice if in your possiblilities...these machines last a very long time. A 1245 sewing machine gives a stitch of 8 mm and a 2545 gives a stitch of 12 mm long and can easily sew with thick threads and needle 200 . Definetely, a 2545 is more powerful, not only for bags but for upholstery.
    Prices are almost the same everywhere...perhaps, it is cheaper if you buy it directly in Germany. Hopefully, if my business increase, I have in mind to buy new machines in Germany...an old saying goes: 'new is new!

    Cechaflo Thank very much those machine are really beautiful, you know i am really do this as a hobby and i love it! the pries of the machine can go up to 2800 3000 euro this is not the biggest problem, the problem is that i haven't so much experience with these big machines and people that supposed to help me say each one almost different things than the other. than wen i discovered your videos i thought direct that you are the right person to ask, thats why i wanna ask you an other thing about this topic: ``what do you think if i want to sew about 3-5 millimeter thick leather is the Pfaff 1245 to weak? some people talked about the Pfaff 335 cylinder arm, do you know if the 1245 is stronger than 335? and more appropriate for leather bags?
    sorry to ask you so many questions but the thing is that i am sure that your skills and experience makes you the right person to ask. ... .. and once more the technique you use and the work you show in your videos is fantastic and very very well detailed ( : and also easy to understand, and all this without you talking: ..just = EXCEPTIONAL!!
    I did not checked yet the other machines you suggested...( 2545 & 2546)
    ANSWER: +takes2home I think, that an industrial sewing machine is chosen according to the work we are going to do and kind of leather we are going to use.
    If we are going to work with standard leather 'furniture/automotive' a Pfaff 1245 sews 3 to 5 mm thick of leather easily...a 335 do the same.
    If you are going to do bags, I agree with the Pfaff 335, cylinder bed...the bags are easily maneuvered in that long arm...besides, there is an option of making it flat bed, by adding/adapting a wood table if you want to sew flat upholstery projects.
    A good idea to be more secure would be take to the authorized store the materials we would work with to request a demonstration.

    +Cechaflo Hallo again, I thought i tell how did it goes with the 2545, the shop were i will buy the machine tell me that the 2545 can deliver it first in 1-2 months for some strike Reasons so it looks like that i have 2 options to buy a machine as soon as possible:
    The Pfaff 1245 (new for 2500 euro with Stpp Motor, he said this is another word for SERVO MOTOR) or a Pfaff 1445 (used with Clutch motor for 2000 euro)...what do you think? which one you is a better machine? and if i buy the 1245 what should i be aware of about the Stop motor-Servo motor? is there some thing that should i check before buying it..
    Please answer me only if you have time I already asked you so much::: : )
    Have a great DaY

    Cesar, I was given a machine just like yours from a friend who's Mom died. It will not go forward with the reversing lever down, but will go forward with it up. Do you know what is wrong with it? I tried to reverse the wires in the junction box but that didn't do it. Thank you! Gail

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The feed dog drags with its teeth the material (vinyl, leather, fabric, etc.) forward while the reversing lever is up in position and the big pulley or big wheel moves forward too.
      Verify the big wheel moves forward. On the contrary, the electric current poles of the motor are inverted.

    Lost the thread anyway I drilled out the mounting hole (Consew is Japonese metric) and got it mounted on the machine itself. had to move the bobbin winder. 3 in longer belt. It appears to have made a big difference. Have not really tried to do any serious sewing yet. Just ran a few simple test stitches . All appears good ! Thank you for all the great ideas!!

    • @Cechaflo

      I have no idea about what is happening to your sewing machine motor.
      The sewing machine I have has a very fast clutch motor:
      th-cam.com/video/g-64WWA_E8Q/w-d-xo.html
      Regarding the thread space, hopefully this video is useful:
      th-cam.com/video/g-64WWA_E8Q/w-d-xo.html
      I have found the maximum stitch length of your machine is:
      Lockstitch. 4.5mm max. length, forward and reverse.
      That is how it comes from the factory. Perhaps, this stitch length could be increased by modifying an eccentric mechanism that moves the feed dog.

    señor cesar! muy buenos dias, usted hace 1 año y medio aproximadamente me aconsejo con respecto a adquirir una maquina de coser para tapiceria, logre comprar una pfaff 145, (soy de venezuela, aca esta un poco dificil la cosa para no entrar en detalle) y hice todo lo que usted hizo aca en este video, cambie la correa y la polea por una polea muuuy pequeña, la maquina sigue siendo demasiado pero demasiado rapida, y el motor de clutch uno medio mueve la pata y pasa de lento a rapido, no tiene mucho trayecto, hay alguna manera de configurar en si la pata del cluctch como para modificar el nivel de velocidad o algo asi?? o tengo que hacer una modificacion tipo pulley system con una polea grandota y otra pequeña (en total 4 poleas) para reducirle la velocidad?

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Esta Ud. en lo correcto, la relación de las poleas deben ser de 'grande' a 'muy pequeña' para que surta el efecto de 'disminuir la velocidad'. Si las 2 poleas van a tener casi el mismo tamaño, entonces no tiene caso, va a ser o mismo (Ya vi en internet que el cabezal de la 145 tiene su polea pequeña...es para alta velocidad. La solución es conseguir una 'polea/rueda volante mas grande' o mandar hacer con el tornero que tenga la misma entrada pero su polea mas ancha. Me refiero que la polea debe tener mas diámetro en la canal donde va el 'banda de goma.
      Además para mejorar el control del motor hay que alargar la palanca que va del motor al pedal. Este otro video ayuda:

    Hello, I notice that you do not hold your thread ends when beginning a new stitch. What is your trick? I have been sewing for several years and any time I let the beginning thread go unheld it wads up the underside of the stitch and or catches the loose end in the underside stitch. Almost invariably when I start out with a backstitch to lock the threads. It would be nice to not worry about it besides straightening it out to begin with most especially when doing big canvas jobs where you can't easily get to the backside along with the top to hold the thread. I have two walking feet machines (Jukki and a Sailrite) as well a a lightweight home zig zag machine. All of them do it for me. Interesting video. It reminds me of when I started and could find absolutely no information at all on the basics of both sewing and machines (pre internet). Sure is nice now. Take care. Doug

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dear Doug, This issue happens once in a while. One of the reasons is when tensions are unbalanced and lower tension pulls down too much the the upper thread. There is a small bar beside the rotary hook shuttle that balances this mechanism to let the threads pass through around to make the lockstitch. If it is unbalanced it also causes the issue. If the hole in needle plate is too big also causes the issue.
      When I sew real pieces I do the backstitch. Sometimes, I use the reverse stitching lever and other times when I want a precise distance of one or two back lockstitches I use the knee lever to lift the presser foot and move the material manually and put the needle only at that distance.
      Thanks for watching the videos!

      Perhaps, you would need to replace the clutch motor for a new one. This is job for an electrical technician. Clutch motors have 'brake pads' that make the machine stop whenever it is necessary. If these pieces are worn out the metallic pieces are exposed and while making contact cause heating and fumes.

      @Cechaflo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have now realized this machine 1445 is similar to a Pfaff 1245, 545, including 145. Little differences, such as needle system which is 134-35 and for Pfaff 1245 is 135-17
      The 'slowing down process' work out the same. I'd rather recommend to get a servo motor...if possible.

    It's the best I can get it without fitting a servo motor.
    Just need to return the top thread tension back to what it was before I fiddled with it, for some unknown reason, then start sewing.

    Update on my effort to get a slow start.
    WhooHoo, I've done it!
    Extended the clutch shaft by 8" (230mm) and attached the top foot pedal rod to a long bolt sticking out at 90° from the end of the extension.
    What a pleasure the machine now is, from hand turning slow to take-off speed.
    Just need to put the extra tension spring back that I was using, just to give that little bit of extra resistance for initial pedal pressure.
    It now feels as if I have a servo motor installed.
    Well worth doing César.
    Will put a video up ASAP.
    Chuffed doesn't half explain how I feel.

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Al hacer 'el remate', levantamos la 'palanca de reversa' que acciona los 'dientes de arrastre' al revés y en el momento la aguja hace el recorrido para atrás y 'debe' coincidir en los mismos 'hoyitos' que ya hizo.
      Haga una prueba sobre una cartulina, es decir primero cose para adelante unas puntadas y luego levanta la palanca de reversa y se va a dar la costura para atrás que debe coincidir en los mismos hoyitos. Si no coinciden, quiere decir que por algún motivo hubo un desajuste y esto provoca que se rompa la aguja.

    Ho sentito parlare di un dimmer . Riduce la tensione sul motore e di conseguenza i giri . Potrebbe funzionare? E se il motore funziona 220 v con l'ausilio del condensatore si potrebbe pensare di aggiungere sulla linea 220 del cavo quel riduttore di tensione così da aver più controllo ! Qualcuno di voi la fatto??? Io acquistato un pfaff 561 per errore e ora devo assolutamente risolvere questo problema della velocità

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Definitely the best way or solution 100% to reduce speed and keep control of the sewing machine is the use of a servo motor.
      The method I show is a 'just in case solution' . Much important than the changing of the pulley is the adaptation of the elongated lever as I show in part 2 of a video.
