Thanks Richard…we were certainly surprised to overtake a cat on that point of sail! I don’t think the Bear is the fastest boat out there by a long way but she has surprised us a few times this season. But, yes, it adds a bit more spice to challenge yourself against others especially when you win 😊⛵️
Lovely lovely lovely. Nice to see some sun too with lazy sailing under the pink kite. Here its just grey and stormy. Boat goes back in the end of March so we are off to Thailand for a charter sail (motor 🙂) and some diving.
Cheers Doug, The south of France is wide open to the whole Med so its seems that anchorages will be rolly a lot of the time. Very little protection unless you go in a marina.... hence our marina budget got a bit battered in 2023!!
Haven't noticed in previous episodes but have you ever been in a situation where you deployed/might have deployed two anchors from the bow? My strong preference is to use just one but with all the anchoring you guys do I'm curious as to what you've found in those cruising grounds. Where necessary I use the kedge to keep the boat into a stream or swell but never from the bow.
Hi Iain, I’ve read a lot about dual anchors off the bow, Bahamian moors, tandem anchors etc etc but I’ve never found a situation where I’ve wished I had a 2nd bower anchor. Such a faff to rig for starters, it would have to be really beneficial which I’ve never come across a situation where I’ve felt it would be so, no, I’ve never deployed dual bower anchors but have, like you, occasional deployed a kedge to keep us head (or stern) to the swell to prevent rolling. Like yourself my very strong preference is a really good single bower anchor and decent chain….As I say I’ve read all the theory of dual anchors off the bow but it’s not something I’ve ever felt the need for. I’m trying to work out a good way to use our second anchor roller to mount a bowsprit for the big pink! 😊⛵️
Thanks; mirrors my experience exactly but I was interested in what you'd found. I've had to get out of anchorages quickly sometimes too and was very glad not to have been embuggered with a complex set-up. As for swell, I've made up a 'flopper stopper' the likes of which you're probably aware. First anchorage this year will likely be Sark where I'm sure there'll be plenty of opportunity to see how it does.... Good luck with the bowsprit; if you're heading back this way it cold be worth having a chat with Stas who made your arch; he adapted the bow set-up on mine - although it wasn't cheap! All the best for the next bit. @@FollowIntrepidBear
@iainmacdonald1170 cheers Iain, yes might chat to Stas when we’re back. Have dabbled with a flipper stopper on my old motorboat. Might be worth revisiting. Be interested in your experience. Enjoy Sark, we’ve been once and loved it. Hope to get back soon 😊
Thank you both. Loved it all as per usual.
Thank you Peter 😊⛵️
Very nice, thanks guys! 😊
Cheers Trev 😊⛵️
Very therapeutic 😊 always fun to have some competition on the water, especially if you can go faster 😂

Thank you 😊 Enjoy Thailand. We have plans to spend good chunks of the U.K. winter abroad once we’re back sailing Northern Europe …have fun 😊🛥️
I approve of the hat Ian 😊
Thanks Matthew! My mum volunteers in an RNLI shop in Cornwall and bought it for me 😊
great sailing
Thank you…it was a lovely sail 😍⛵️
Looks like an idyllic sail.....lovely
Thanks Janice, yes we had a few decent sails along the Cote D’Azur 😊⛵️
Lovely sail. Strange how some anchorages are just miserable.

Intrepid BARE?
😂😂….it was HOT!! 🥵😂
I am furious that g-d religion has taught that the human body is not fit for the human eye.
Are you referring to the fact that there are certain parts I have to blur out?
yes. there should be no requirement to censor@@FollowIntrepidBear
