Congrats on catching a few of the truly fun fish to catch along our coast. The guy with the blue line at the beginning of the video made two mistakes though: (1) Albacore are not rockcod...don't tuck the rod butt under your arm when you try to reel them in. You don't get enough leverage on these strong fish using that technique...which is why you had such a tough time reeling it in. You need a bend in the rod to put pressure on the fish...rod butt lodged against the bend at the top of your leg with your left hand positioned above the reel so you can put pressure on and pull on the fish. Pull up, reel down. (2) You tightened your drag at least three times if not more while you were fighting the fish. You're lucky you didn't pop the fish off. The golden rule is to make sure your drag is tightened properly before you put your line in the water. Only tighten your drag as a last resort. Not trying to be a jerk...just trying to give a little experienced advice to help you land that next big one.
The Captain of Red Rooster instructed me to "short pump" reeling anything large keeping the pressure on giving them any pause they keep running away and reel as fast as you can if they're running at you. 2nd albacore I hooked was on 20 lb, 45 min of pure excitement. Almost took entire spools, only 20 yards left, so gave it 5 quick yanks. It stopped, then it was one crank in, one back out. Finally I started gaining on it. Best fishing ever! Hope, I can take a trip to Cabo before I get much older , turn 70 this Thursday. Better get on it!
@@KeepItBENTOutdoors Thanks, we went out of Bodega today and started trolling around Bodega Canyon area. We got 5 Albacore in the boat along with a few others that popped off sadly.
