  • Hanging curtains in an RV adds another dimension to your living space. And if you’re like us with your RV makeover, you’re looking to do RV curtains on a budget.
    In this episode, we install our IKEA curtain rods throughout our RV to take the place of the boring factory blinds.
    We also use a creative and ingenious simple way to secure the bedroom sliding doors so they don’t move when we drive and we put some finishing touches in our bedroom.

    Hi Ya'll. I just found your channel a few days ago and I gotta tell you I'm lovin it. I'm now binge watching and I've enjoyed them all. Thank you for making these videos. I've learned a lot and you have given me a lot of ideas for mine. I just bought one very similar to yours. In fact we have the same front seats. I've spent the past month going through and replacing a lot of the mechanical parts that just because of their age. I'm hoping to begin on the interior in the next week or two. Like yours, mine was in really good shape but just really dated. I plan to do some remodel before I hit the road next month but am planning on doing a lot of the remodel when i'm out there and parked somewhere. I love what you have done with yours, I don't know that I will go as extensive as what you all did on the inside but we'll see. Once again, thanks for posting and thanks for all the ideas. Who knows, maybe our paths will cross out there. I agree with you guys too that West in best. I'm in Kentucky right now and first trip will be to Oklahoma next month and then I plan to maybe winter in AZ. Anyway, I'm beginning to ramble now. Thanks again and Peace, Jim

      Thanks for taking the time to watch and soak up lessons from what we've done! If we had 6-8 weeks and all the money at hand we probably could have knocked all the remodel out in one fell swoop. As it is, we think it would be terribly difficult to do it in pieces while on the road. The painting in itself required so much effort (and everything out!). But if you knock the painting and maybe flooring out before you hit the road then as long as you have the right tools on the road then you should be able to do little things along the way! Hope it goes well and keep us updated! We'll be passing through AZ on our way to Baja for winter so there's always the chance our paths with cross! Thanks again for watching and being a part of our wander!

      @@CalledToWander Thanks, I appreciate you. Yeah, I'm thinking I'll knock out the flooring first and some of the painting. I think I'm just going to do the walls and maybe the cabinets under the sink. I like what you did but I also like the wood stain that is in mine at this time. Just a matter of personal choice so I think I'll start with that and see how I like it. The rest I can do a room at a time when I'm out there. I't just me and my gizmo(a small shitzu maltese mix) that will traveling. Once again, Thank you and stay well. I'll continue to follow and wish you all the very best. Peace, Jim (a I promise not to be a woody when I'm out there) I could not agree with you more on what you said in that video too. It really bothers me when I see people not taking proper care of this beautiful country that is our home. Peace, Jim

    Can you please tell me about the screws you used to secure the curtain rods and how successful they have been. Thank you for sharing, I love IKEA rods. You can’t beat the quality and price.

      Thanks! So we actually bolted the rod in the living room so that it is secured by the cabinet. We used a locknut on the bolt to hold it in place, knowing that we would head down dirt roads and everything would bump around. So far, no movement at all! The other screws were just standard wood screws and the way IKEA designed the holders, the screws help distribute the weight well and they haven't even tried to strip from the wall. Good luck!

    I found the ikea rods. Did you guys cut them to size? Not many camper windows are 48" wide?

    • @CalledToWander
      @CalledToWander  ปีที่แล้ว

      No we did not have to cut them. They fit the way they were

    I love the idea of securing the brackets to the cabinets, but am wondering if you had any trouble screwing the brackets to the wall? I have read that the walls are very thin and I am worried about either not having anything for the screws to bite into or going through the wall to the exterior. What size screws did you use and did you have any issues drilling into the walls?

    • @CalledToWander
      @CalledToWander  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t remember the screw size, but nonissue. We used the same area as the old valences so we assumed the manufacturer has a stud of some kind. And we bolted them to the top storage cabinet with nuts and washers for added strength because we knew we would be bouncing down a lot of dirt roads. 2+ years and no issues

      Thanks for your kind words Jim! We're working up some concepts in the next few months that we hope to be able to share along the lines of bumper stickers, hats and shirts. Stay tuned! And thanks so much for continuing to watch and be a part of our wander!

    How do you find the right length of curtains for RV windows? Everywhere I look they're like 80 inches long and I don't want to have to cut them.

    • @CalledToWander
      @CalledToWander  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s hard to find. These were curtains from Target that I cut and hemmed. But saved money because 1 curtain panel covered 1 window instead of buying two panels. You could try Turkish tea towels, I see people using those a lot

    How do you keep the rods from sliding out of the holders?

    • @CalledToWander
      @CalledToWander  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      These rods have caps that screw into the ends to keep it from moving around.

  • @sarah_duncan

    Which rods did you use from IKEA?

    • @CalledToWander
      @CalledToWander  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure the name. But they are around 1 inch in diameter, nice and sturdy. And there were different lengths of the same sturdy rod.

    You do realize a level will not work inside your vehicle unless your vehicle is perfectly level right? lol

    • @CalledToWander
      @CalledToWander  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We leveled the camper before we started working on it. The manufacturers, however, did not. So we were constantly fighting their off-level measurements and installations (counters in particular).

    • @nfinance2
      @nfinance2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CalledToWander Gotcha. I usually just use the top edge of the window as the level point. At least if everything lines up when looking at those lines, it doesn't matter if your camper is truly "level". lol
