thats because Ford accually does recalls, GM has to be forced. they refused to fix a known problem on my Silverado's ABS system because they were only forced to recall upto 2005. The 2006 had the same issue and the same part numbers but they didnt care. Wife refused to drive the truck because of the brakes. Traded to my first F150 and it was perfect, traded it for another 8 years later...again no problems at all.
My 2021 GMC has had the rear gate latch replaced 2 times now. It shorted out for water. Bed has had a tonneau cover on it since day one. Recently I received a letter from a lemon law firm out of another state on my truck. It has the 3.0l duramax and its had all this replaced in the last 75k miles. 1.) Injector Wiring Harness, 2.) Rear Gate Latch, 3.)Heating Cooling Manifold Circuit Solenoid, 4.) Rear Gate Latch, 5.) Glow Plug #5. And now its part of the open recall on the transmission. Owned GM's all my life but at this point I would rather buy an 80s' Pickup instead. Thanks Again for the videos
Another safety tip with the locking tailgates to keep in mind if you tow a lot, if the truck ever catches on fire the tailgate will not unlock (depending on if you have all doors set to unlock when you put in park) because the electronics won’t work. So if you are pulling a horse trailer and are trying to unhook it to get the animals away from the fire, the tailgate could still be locked. Or if you have propane tanks in the bed of the truck you’re trying to keep from blowing up, you may have a problem. Things happen so fast, but if the truck catches on fire just try to remember to hit the unlock button when you get out!
That recall was fixed on my 2021 DURAMAX 3500. Replaced the harness with better water proof connectors. Never had any problems with my tailgate before or after.
and to think your driving a fricken Denali, I have a 2017 Ram 3500 and had one recall for the steering link, at 160,000 now drives prefect and deleted of course ! keep up the videos great content
All manufacturers have had a recall for the electronic tailgates. Doesn't matter what you buy and its nothing new, every manufacturer has issues with something, Some more than others. Just depends on what issues you want to potentially deal with. Should they be having issues like this? No, but you have to ask yourself, would you rather the manufacturer put out a recall for an issue, meaning they are acknowledging theres an issue? Or would you rather not hear about any recalls on issues, meaning the manufacturers don't want to acknowledge there's a problem? My opinion, don't be agitated when they put recalls out.
My buddy bought his new chev in 21 and he showed me that fancy tailgate and first thing I said was " u are gonna have problems with that". And yes he's had plenty of problems with it. I thought the problems would be if the tailgate ever got tweaked somehow that he'd never get it open without a handle, but it's the same issue your having, it drops down while he's driving. The way I look at it is that a tailgate is another door on the truck, keep the friggin mechanical handle on it.
My tailgate switch was replaced at the last service back in October. They notified me by mailer and in the service department back in the spring. Evidently, the recall was 6-months or a year old by then. But didn’t have the replacement parts available until a few months ago. So that recall has been out for a long while now. Why it’s only getting traction in the media now is beyond me. js
I have a 2021 Chevy 2500HD and have never had the tailgate open on its own. Also anytime the tailgate opens while the truck is running there's a warning on the dash so you should have known when your tailgate opened. The recall replaces the existing switch with one that is coated so the switch doesn't get wet. If you simply unplug the switch in the tailgate you just won't be able to open the tailgate by the button on the tailgate but you can still use the key fob or the button on the dash to open the tailgate.
My brother has a new 2024 3500 chevrolet with 7000 miles they have aligned it twice because the steering wheel is crooked and waring tires and when he is on the phone the stereo pops loud they have updated that twice and finally got it all fixed.
I thought they had this earlier they to put the tail gates back to manual how many years have we had manual tailgates The cameras will be next recall I own a 14 Silverado crew always owned GM trucks this is my last
Lol, I was driving cross-country a couple of months ago now I was pulling in the gas station to refuel and I got out and my tailgate was open towing my 5th wheel I lost one of my blocks, but luckily it did not damage my 5th wheel somehow. They need to take care of the customers, they didn't mind taken our money, did they, no.
GM has been doing this for years. They know they have problems and just wait and wait then then they put out a recall and you only have X amount of days to get it fixed or it’s already expired cause you put too many miles on your vehicle good old GMwe pay for the product but they can’t evolve their product
I hit a huge pothole running around Chicago and when my chassis flexed my tailgate opened... Only happened once in my 42000 safety miles... I drive. 2016 GMC Denali 3500 dually... With the reliable Allison 6 speed transmission... I have 194k on my truck as I am in Elkhart leaving with a load...
What is really aggravating about that tailgate there is a warning light that comes up on your dash when the upper small gate opens but not when the full gate is open so now you lose everything out of your bed because you have no warning that your tailgate opened but yet they've got a warning for the little half top half that is open which is unnecessary because if the top half opens you're probably not going to lose anything out of it anyway
. And yes I agree what if that tailgate opens while I'm pulling a trailer and you don't hear it tearing everything up back there not only the jack on the trailer but the $2,000 tailgate

Buy a Ford. They have more recalls than all the other manufacturers combined.
Ford has more recalls. My older son was a sales representative for a Ford Dealer in the Midwest.... Always more recalls on firs than GM.
Because another manufacturer has more recalls it's okay? I wouldn't buy any of the big three right now they're all making junk
Ford has just as many recalls !! Research it

WOW - UGH! Thanks for sharing your story with us - we have heard so many horror stories like yours - completely unacceptable!
I had this recall done on my 23' 3500 and now it's doing it again

New Mexico Roads! Couldn’t agree with you more. I swear they are trying to enter Guinness World records for the most potholes.

Just get it fixed. Move on.
I have no idea how GM is still in business…. Ridiculous prices for their trucks, recall after recall and yet people still continue to buy this stuff.
😂that's all brands in 2024😂
I do the same thing with checking my camera to make sure it is closed. It has been over 6 months and no fix yet. Stay safe.
Thanks for sharing! Safe travels!

Agreed New Mexico has the worst roads I’ve ever driven on
Thanks for commenting!

Great info - thank you for the detailed explanation!

I just K EW that was going to be a problem eventually. Thank GOD I have the older model thwt don't have the electric tailgate.
Wild Bill... Looks like your getting closer to 50k safety miles... You passed me up...
William, I cracked a piston early this morning leaving Elkhart... Ugggg. Truck will be down for at least 4 weeks or less = new motor....
Thanks William keep giving them Hell
Thanks for watching!
Just because the switch is unhooked if there is a wire chafed from switch to rear of truck it could still open the tailgate when rubbing together.
Thanks for sharing!
Already had the tailgate recall fixed on my 2022 2500
Thanks for sharing!
Chevy replaced the switch on my tailgate under the recall.
It is hard to think for that amount of money that's the best the manufacturer's can do.
That's an option that should never be offered.
This will be last time I buy a Chevy! I have a 2022 high country DRW, the transmission issue has me more pissed than anything. Bandaid fixes
I thought they had this earlier they to put the tail gates back to manual how many years have we had manual tailgates The cameras will be next recall I own a 14 Silverado crew always owned GM trucks this is my last
I don't need any bells and whistles to break. I need to add a new 3500 4x4 with a reliable motor and transmission that can haul and plow.
Lol, I was driving cross-country a couple of months ago now I was pulling in the gas station to refuel and I got out and my tailgate was open towing my 5th wheel I lost one of my blocks, but luckily it did not damage my 5th wheel somehow. That is what recalls are for.
It's the Redbull and the Pringles
If you are so dissatisfied with your GMC truck maybe you should consider another brand.
This is why I’m keeping my 2016 Tundra having zero recalls. 😀The New Tundras are junk having one recall after another.😮
That is so crazy OMG 🤦🏻
New Mexico has some of the worst drivers on the highway, but Pennsylvania has without question, the worst roads in the nation.
you mean mass drivers
Why not just stay with the good Ole mechanical handle and be done with it. Someone build it it will be bought to replace that junk.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. 💯
Get rid of that piece of junk and get yourself a 2015 ram 3500 or 2018 ram 3500 these are the best years that ram has made.
Ram has never been a reliable truck
I hit a huge pothole running around Chicago and when my chassis flexed my tailgate opened... Only happened once in my 42000 safety miles... I drive. 2016 GMC Denali 3500 dually... With the reliable Allison 6 speed transmission... I have 194k on my truck as I am in Elkhart leaving with a load...
100k truck is a POS

Thanks for sharing! We agree that is really aggravating and not having a full gate open warning light makes no sense at all. 😠
What is wrong with a standard tailgate . You don't need a computerized tailgate.
Old news
Correct we said that in the video
