It has been 5 years now with my beloved Navitimer.
And the romance period hasn't ended yet.
I've my Rolex sub, Speedy, an skx, a day-date... but more than often I catch myself glancing at the Gorgeous dial of Navitimer for quite sometime.
    It's just so mesmerizing.

I was wondering about that honestly, although his was more of a tucan blue from the Smuglers Blues Episode, this is more of a straight navy blue and pink, like something Michael would wear in GTA 5, as I think I actually tried that with him at one point.
as well they did make a game all about Miami Vice lol

I'm surprised that the Navitimer has such an annoying date adjusting problem. I actually LIKE seeing the old date on a watch I haven't worn in a while because it tells me when I last wore it (minus 40 hour reserve), but I'm too lazy to adjust a date like the Navitimer. I can picture myself opening the watch box, looking at the Navitimer date showing something like "23" and saying to myself, "Well, I guess I'll just have to wait until the Christmas weekend to wear this one." :D

Love my Navitimer 01 46mm. I have the newer version so it addresses most of the dislikes you indicated, which to be honest, I didn't even notice on your piece. I think your Navitimer is an excellent watch and love it on the mesh bracelet. I've only had mine for a week but every time I look at it, I just fall in love all over again. If anyone is considering a wristwatch in the Dallas Fort Worth area, I recommend my friend Kevin at EISEMAN'S located in the North Park Shopping Center. Excellent service, down to earth, and very knowledgeable. A true pleasure to do business with.
Love your Tudor also! I need a pop of gold in one of my pieces. I myself am considering the Heritage Chronograph in blue on the strap. Epic fun! Take care.

The brand may not match the quality of the top top brands.. but no other watch brand has the romance or the history or the pure nostalgic feeling of the Navitimer it truly is a classic that very few watches can match I love mine and on a leather strap still sends a shiver down my spine when wearing it..I love it

Hello, again great show. I've got a Navitimer, but it's the Aerospace so not the same at all. I like Breitling. My Aerospace was my first Swiss watch that I brought (in1989) and now it became my lucky charm watch.
Let me tell you a story. I went to an exhibition at the military museum in Morges in Switzerland (where I live) It was about secret services. There I stumbled upon an old Breitling that was exposed. The story was that during WWII the British military send airplane at night (probably Lysander) to get Breitling chronograph, they even say that Mr Breitling handed the watches himself to the pilot. Cool story I think.
    Thank you and Best regards.

I love the Navitimer design. In fact, the blue one that you have is my favorite of all! The only thing that really keeps me from getting one is the 30m water resistance. Yes, I know it's a flight watch and not designed for water, but we all know that if a watch is only 30m water resistant, it may as well not be considered water resistant at all. I would be afraid to wear it in the rain even, and I wouldn't want to have to worry about that. I do love that the Sinn version is 100m water resistant, and I know they have the rights to produce a watch of that style, but at the end of the day, I would want the Breitling because it's the original, and can't justify (yet) the stress that having it only be 30m water resistant would bring me. It's a damn shame, because the Navi is a gorgeous icon that belongs in a well-rounded collection like I aspire to have.

    • @trevbarlow9719
      @trevbarlow9719 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I know it would be better if it had better WR, but it's only psychological. 30m is essentially good for anything except purposely getting the watch wet. Of course, some light running water should be okay. I rarely get my divers wet on purpose, so who cares?

Hi Tristano, I have the same navi as you. I bought it a few months ago as my first luxury piece after seeing your review. I agree with all the points you mentioned. I love almost everything about this watch, the shape of the case, hands, pushers, caseback, and this mesmerizing dial. I'll add the steel bracelet, maybe esthetically it's not for everybody, but it's fantastic, very comfortable, high quality and very very well finished. Another down point is the cost of the service, about 700$ at an AD.

I'm a new Navitimer owner (October this year) and it was something that I have wanted for years. I opted for a Navitimer world version as it ticks two boxes for me, a GMT and navitimer. I do agree with you view on the large sapphire Chrystal getting smudges. I am constantly wiping and at 46mm it is noticeable.

While the standard Navitimer has this date related issue that you mentioned, I think it is important to note that those Navitimer models which utilize flyback chronograph movements, such as the ETA 2892-A2, do in fact have a quick-set date. I believe this also carries over to the multiple iterations of the Navitimer that have a moonphase complication, but these typically have pin-set dates - not much better than the "traditional" method, all things considered. I recently picked up a Navitimer Heritage flyback chrono (the limited edition with the blue dial and slide-rule bezel with the silverized sub-dials) with the quick-change date, and honestly, I love the ease of wear and general elegance that it exudes. Personally, I think that it would be a great piece for you to look into as well. Despite having an integrated bracelet, I believe the more "classic" styling of the watch, which is modelled after the AOPA commissioned original Navitimer, hearkens back to what really made Breitling one of the great watchmakers of our time. Moreover, I feel that the somewhat more curved look of the lugs on the heritage models would really suit you as an individual, especially considering the mild issue that you take with your Navi's 22mm lug-width.

  • @pth8888
    @pth8888 8 ปีที่แล้ว

Good point on the date change hassle for navitimer. Some of my watches have the same hassle but I have get accustom to it and just enjoy the interaction with the watch, haha. Great choice with the navitimer!

Sounds like you really need a Navitimer 01 Tristano! 2 of your hates would be non-existent in the B01 version. As you've mentioned, the date color matches the dial, and of course, it has the quick date change. The power reserve (from 48hrs to 72hrs), vertical clutch column wheel are all added bonuses of course. Also, the size is just bigger by 1mm, which is barely noticeable. Your version is 42mm while the new one is 43mm. What's also cool is the solid gold applied logo, it's just beautiful. great vid as always man!

I'm not sure exactly which one I'll go with, as I have blue covered with my Superocean Heritage and I already have a black/white faced watch I am happy with as well. No way I’d be setting that bloody date! I recently test drove a Swiss Air tribute Navitimer. It won me over. My teams colours had something to do with that. No signature B on the seconds hand on the chrono. But just so much going on to keep you interested. Loved the dome on the crystal giving some optical bending on profile. At 22mm so many strap change options it would look killer with a vintage tan leather strap. Such a positive click to kick start the column wheel chrono. You’ve really got to push that sucker. Date wheel colour match and such a seasoned icon of the watch world. The Navitimer busy dial takes a lot of getting used to. But that’s what gives it character. My gripe would be the hands are way shorter than the extended dial and that reduces legibility. But let’s face it. It’s wrist candy. Simple as that. Nobody uses these pieces for actually telling the time with our mobiles stuck to our faces. Loving the blue sunburst on yours. THE classic Breitling and in the top ten of all time classic watch designs. Just gorgeous watchy goodness.

    Hi TGV!
Happy Navitimer Anniversary! :) With the Navitimer Breitling has created its own monument in horology. I could understand why it is so popular. The thickness would be my major complaint. And if they would be able to,place the date window at 6 o'clock the dial would look even better.
Are you planning to come over the UK for Christmas this year? Or are you waiting until March to attend Baselworld?

An excellent video on Breitling. And I think you're right, a lot of people overlook these positives and focus too much on the "bling" and "glorified" ETA side of things. I have to say though, that your Breitling with it's deep blue dial is my favorite of the family. The winged logo reminds me a bit of Bentley (and yes, I'm aware of the relationship between Bentley and Breitling). "It's a grail" - Wonderful! Ciao John

I can totally relate to your irritation when it comes to changing the date of your Navitimer. I've got a small vintage Tressa watch that unfortunately has that same feature, no quickset.
I guess it has a positive side though: since its such an utterly atrocious feature, it forces you to wear the watch more just so it'll keep running.
    Best Regards,
    Allan.

Hello TGV, great video as always. I've always loved the Navi and U purchased one after watching your videos. Mine came on the Breitling leather strap, what Milanese strap is yours on? I love it😍 My Navi has the vertical sub dials which I like less but it has a quickset date feature so it kind of offsets that frustration...

Tristano, I'm surprised you've purchased an older model Navitimer. I've got the new 46 mm with black dial. ya...I know it sounds huge, but I've got 8 inch wrist. The larger diameter actually "cleans up", for lack of a better word, the busyness of the dial. and the solid gold applied wing emblem is just frigg'n cool and really pops. Of course the new models sport the new in-house B01 movement, vertical clutch, column wheel.....robust.....need I say more? The big lug width goes well with the larger case and I put mine on a vintage brown distressed leather WWII custom ammo strap from The Strap Smith. The guy makes amazing custom straps. Man Tristano, I just love my Navi....no negatives...lol I'll try to post a photo on your Facebook page if you give me permission.

TGV, My recently acquired Old Navitimer II (a 1995 model, sub dials @ 6,9 & 12), instructions state that adjusting the date can be done using the crown as long as it's not between 8pm and 2am. I've yet to need to adjust it but a little confused and worried I might damage the movement... Any thoughts?
    Regards, Mark
P.s Great videos, keep up the good work.

    Hello Tristano,
please excuse the off-topic question, but I just have to ask: Where did you get the Milanaise strap from you used on your Seiko video on the SKX, the Navitimer in your Top 5 Love and Hate vid, and if I remember correctly, the Squale later? Whats its name? I just have to buy it. Great video as always by the way.
    Kind regards from Germany

About date change: there are 7750 tricompax versions with a recessed pushpiece at cca. 10 to quick change the date on other watches. Is it maybe possible to sort of "upgrade" the case with such a pushpiece (you can find one e. g. on the montbrillant Datora for its 7751) and - if needed - modify the base movement accordingly? The 30 m water resistance can be preserved as the montbrillant Datora also has this with the mentioned pushpiece... for me this ridiculous date change on this model is a clear deal breaker. Just trying to find out some solution.

I own the navitimer world, blue bezel with steel band.
Bought it the same day i bought my wifes engagement ring. I ve been lusting for the navitimer since i got out of college. finally was able to go get it after i closed a big deal.
    What i love:
    the blue dial
    complication
    the grand look of it
    the weight behind it.
    what i dislike:
a bit too clunky at times however pros outweigh the cons
i think this watch iconic and timeless like the datejust

Looking into them....the new ones I find too big at 43. So to find smaller ones the only alternative is an older one. I wish Breitling would listen. So at that process of narrowing them down.
