Got me goosebumps because she has a lot of talent and it's not usual to see a 13yo skater to perform with such naturality and flow. She's so fluid, and her knee bending is delightful to watch. Japanese skaters tend to show very good skating skills, bit I think Mao Shimada it's a bit above the "norm" for her age, and bc she also has jumps with 3a and 3-3 combinations and good spins. Congratulations for this international presentation and first win in a GPJunior. Waiting for watching her in Poland. 💖
Mao Shimada's freeskate was stunning in its beauty, elegance and power. Despite the fall on her quad toe, she still landed a tremendous triple axel, but there were so many other fine features that impressed me even more. First of all, she conveyed a true sense of emotional resonance to the audience. She also had erect posture, balletic grace and extension with a picturesque and flexible arabesque spiral held for such a long time while she carved a complete 360 on the ice. Furthermore, she had a really quick transition between her deep-seated sit spin and a one-handed camel position as well as doing great transitions: like the back spiral transitioning into her tano triple lutz with such model posture, lovely extension of her arms and marvelous, crisp edges with fast flow through her whole program including her jumps with nice height and rotation. Furthermore, she is actually able to hold difficult positions and increase her speed in spins particularly on the Biellmann and I spin. Mao also skated all the way to boards on many occasions displaying great rink coverage. No wonder she was named after Mao Asada.

She is all rounded / well balance skater, a technically able (great spins, correct edges on lutz & flip, minimum prerotation on toe jump) as well as having great posture, and skating skills. She is much alike Rika, I'm just worried about her coach. Hoping for her to have long lasting career and develop to become an even better skater in the future.

元々の才能に加えて、万一(体が変わって)ジャンプが思うように跳べなくても、他の要素で加点を貰えるような練習もたくさん積んでいるんだなぁと思いました。
(その辺は年齢を重ねるほど上手になっていくものですし✨)
トゥルソワさんもやってるような4Tをスリーターンの勢いで踏み切る…のではなく、一度勢いを止めて飛び上がってる。
もともとそれで降りられるからそうやってるんでしょうが、身体能力がすごい。
体が成長して跳びにくくなったら変えてくるのかな。

紀平さんのジャンプ力と宮原さんの表現を併せ持ったような選手。
Whoever it is that choreographed this program is a genius. The subtle complexities of the movements add so much to the overall quality of her performance, although some judges perhaps didn’t necessarily see that. The only thing: I’d switch the last two spins! Do the Biellmann first, then finish up with that mesmerizing ever-accelerating spin, with which she ended her SP.
Her FS is choreohraphed by Lori Nichol, and SP by Cathy Reed. I agree, this is a great program for her (and I agree that switching 2 last spins would help the program, her Biellman is beautiful too, but the I spin is really her new trademark!).
Lori Nichol also did Hana Yoshida’s amazing SP, which has similar quirks directly linked to the music. Maybe she’s finally got out of her creative slump
Mao is stunningly good, she reminds me of the young Mao and a little of Kwan - with Lori Nichol being the common thread.

Yup, just like 2 of the greatest of all time at 13 baby M.K. and baby M.A.. this kid has it all. Hope she stays healthy and motivated, because we might be witnessing something special in this young lady.
@@S80-r1o Lori can really craft beautiful programs when she really hits. I like most of her programs for S/H and maybe not all for the other skaters. I guess depending on who she choreographed it for

I really like her skating. 3A, great technique and she really feels the music and the choreography. Nice to watch her, it would be interesting to see her competing against the russian ladies. I think she could win, even though I also like them (especially Murieva who is also a bit more on the presentation than on the technical side)
Muraveyva, Samodelkina, and Petrosyan are seniors now but Mao will not be senior until like 2026-2027 by which point those 3 could be retired already. She’ll be up in the future against Akatieva, Titova, Dvoeglazova, Zhilina, Gorbacheva etc. In theory she should pretty easily defeat the others besides Akatieva, but it will be tough for her because ISU favors the Russian ladies. In the past the Russian skaters were obviously weaker in skating skills and PCS but ISU ignored it (Medvedeva vs. Miyahara, Zagitova vs. Honda) but Akatieva at least actually has strong skating skills and performance.
Axel was 180 pre rotated, with backward take-off i love Mao but imagine if she was a Russian doing 3axel like this ,they would've crucified her already.

beautiful skating!! I think they could have left the quad toe out here to prevent burn out as she didn't need it to win, but still, such a lovely skater with great technique.
I think this olympic sport deserves quads. She normally do it beautifully. U hope she will do it in the next competitions.

Some sports, like figure skating or artistic gymnastics class, require pacing as the season is long, the skills are demanding and you don't want to burn out before it matters the most. I understand the choice to try the 4T and 3A in the same program as it is something she is experimenting, but it's also true she didn't need it and especially at the begging of the season it's damaging other than pointless to shoot for the stars. I'm not criticizing this choice in particular, I just think what you said is wrong

I forgot I was watching a junior. Brilliant and a complete program throughout with not just huge jumps but intricate connecting steps and speed, speed, speed. Dick button would hush over her. I haven’t seen natural talent like this since Mao and Yuna.

@@kanfu2110 I think it is better to let a great skater like Mao Shimada be recognized for their own uniquely exceptional qualities, but I also think it is just to give credit to the skater that truly inspired them. Even the announcer in this performance states that Mao Shimada was named after Mao Asada who was her inspiration with so many qualities reminiscent of Mao like a beautiful triple axel, more than 6 triples, a fabulous arabesque spiral, sophisticated and engaging artistic expression, model erect postue and balletic extension, flexible and picturesque spins including an excellent Bielmann and deep sit spin and she also has the massive rink coverage that Mao Asada had skating all the way up to the boards next to the audience. Mao Shimada also has a lot of qualities reminiscent of Rika Kihira (who has also stated Mao was her ideal skater) such as her remarkably quick reflexes as shown in her rapid transition from a sit spin to a camel position, her beautiful triple axel, the flow and position through her jumps, the excellent position in her Beilmann, and the slight angle she has in the air to maximize air rotation. The comment about Marin Honda and Rika Kihira similarity probably comes from the fact that like Mao Shimada they were all at one time coached by Mie Hamada.

I hope her coaching team is taking good care of her. A quad at that age could be detrimental to her longevity. Especially since the closest Olympics she'll be eligible for is 2030.
I only follow figure skating and not gymnastics. Both is hard on the body. So like I always wonder if there are regulations put in place for gymnastics that say athletes is recommended not to do a certain trick before this age
Looks like the Japanese and Korean rivalry is back in the sport. Let’s hope that these skaters will have a wonderful career just like the legends Yuna kim and Mao asada.

Sofia Akatieva did clean 3A and 4T in her FP when she was 13 and she was enough confident in it!!!

Присутствие Шимады в юниорах на протяжении всего цикла не позволит русским юниоркам после возвращения оккупировать весь подиум на главных турнирах.
А во взрослых соревнованиях фигуристки из России больше не будут доминировать по естественным причинам - из-за повышения возраста. 17-летних квадисток теперь не станут так грибовать, как раньше. Не только потому, что Россия потеряла влияние. Но и из-за того, что после повышения возраста ISU не выгодны победы и уходы на пенсию 17-18 летних. Иначе теряется смысл повышения возраста.
А после 17-18 лет русские фигуристки начинают разваливаться. К 20 годам вообще становятся неконкурентоспособными. За всё время существования новой судейской системы ни одна фигуристка из России в возрасте 20 лет ни разу не преодолевала даже отметку в 200 баллов. Причем не только в международных соревнованиях, но и в местных. После 20 лет только одна - Лиза Туктамышева. Но одна фигуристка за такой продолжительный срок - это не система, а статистическая аномалия. Закончит карьеру - и не факт, что новые такие появятся.
Вот список фигуристок, преодолевавших в международных соревнованиях отметку в 200 баллов возрасте 20 лет и старше: Сакамото, Мияхара, Хигучи, Михара, Асада, Андо, Теннелл, Белл, Вагнер, Голд, Чен, Гленн, Осмонд, Рошетт, Ким, Хендрикс, Костнер, Туктамышева. 6 из Японии, 6 из США, 2 из Канады, по одной фигуристки из России, Италии, Бельгии и Кореи.
Где вы нашли такие слова - "оккупировать весь подиум"? Осталось только написать "захватить весь подиум" Помню, как в прошлом году в Косице стояли на пьедестале три наших девочки - Жилина, Муравьёва, Петросян. Красивый турнир получился, красиво закончился.

This Japanese skater is as good as them. in the junior world championships, she should score 220+ with triple axel, 230+ with quad jump too

真央さん、スケーティングはとてもきれいなので、手が遊ばないように、工夫して下さいね。ジャンプを意識し過ぎてスケーティング中の腕の動きが少し雑になってしまってます。とても残念です。
Thank you ISU. Russia has been banned. Only comments they are already boisterous. Especially when it comes to competition. If Russia feels the best, let it create its own competition institution. Japan's Yuzuru Hanyu is also not arrogant.
