Think about it how old some of the structures are which their gas lines are probably as old. After years of structures settling and flexing...eventually something has to give...often it is gas lines. I responded to a gas leak a few months ago and it occurred due to relatively newer modern home (less than 20 years old) which had settled so much due to an extreme hot dry summer the gas line broke into at the outside gas meter.
