I have always been fascinated with Australia, and have read or watched anything I can get my hands on! Would love to see (and hear) more from Nellie, and other aboriginal artists!

    The Art of the Aborigine links me to the Cosmos, but I do wish we could hear the artists speaking as they are working, explaining the symbolism which is as important as the art. Too many of these uploads makes the artists look like they are performing for the camera. .

      Do you usually talk about your painting while you paint? That's not how this art works. The painting is preserving the story and the culture, not advertising it for you to obtain cultural information. The meaning behind it may be private and not for discussion for the WHOLE INTERNET.

    • @dickyji
      @dickyji 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jessica Rogers Lots of artists who post on the internet do talk about their work and their process. Most artists like to talk about their work, there’s nothing unusual about that. If the meaning is private, as you suggest, that need not be discussed, though many artists would say that one of the reasons they paint is to convey something of what they’re feeling or thinking. You make it sound like a crime to be interested in another culture, but if we don’t enquire about other cultures, how can we hope to understand them? If something is not for discussion for the whole internet, then why post it on the internet?

    Dot painting was introduced to Aboriginals in Australia by an Australian school teacher and artist in the 1970s. He was not Aboriginal. It was subsequently adopted by the Aboriginal people.

    Dot art, not much skill required, it was introduced to aboriginals in the70,s to help them make a living selling this stuff to tourists. Seen 5 year olds do a better job of it, same skill level
