    On a side note regarding security - My friend had his bike stolen from outside his girlfriends house one night, he was using all of the locks that he told his insurance about, but they still refused to pay out as there was a clause in the policy stating an additional security device must be used if left away from the home address overnight! Always read your policy information thoroughly!

      had similar happen with one of my old bikes, an attempted theft but it was outside my own home, because I'd not put the bike cover on I said I had on the insurance they refused to help cover the cost of the damage done and would only do so if I paid double the excess I'd agreed to on the contract, at the time that was £600, way more than the cost of the damage done to the bike.. needless to say I didn't go through with the claim, fixed my bike myself and swapped insurance provider come renewal

    Another thing to look out for is listed security devices .. if you lock your bike up in your garage to a ground anchor with a dirty great big chain and lock, and list them on the insurance application, some insurers will expect you to be taking that huge chain and lock with you and using it every time you park up in public too. I know someone who had their claim refused on this basis, the bike was stolen from a public carpark and he had locked it with his listed disc lock but not the chain as that was only used at home (too heavy to carry about) ... admittedly it was a few years ago and things may have changed since ... but still something to be aware of.

    Here in Portugal pretty much NO ONE (except for probably Panigale people) insures their bikes beyond the mandatory third party coverage, for like 60€ a year
    If anything happens to our bikes, we're on our own
    I even asked my insurance (one of the big ones here) if they did full coverage like the rest of the world, and the guy was confused, said had to ring the main offices and ask for it to be done as like a bespoke case

    Also... read the small print. I wanted my next years quote and was asked what my current mileage was, as it was over what I had been asked to 'estimate' originally I was told my insurance was void and had to take out new insurance from that day. Doesn't matter what security my garage had, they were only interested in whether the locks I was using on the bike were on their list of acceptable security devices. Watch out for things like... I can take my bike out of the garage and park it by my back gate while I nip indoors to get my gloves, in this instance it's not covered... and this is with a reputable company that many recommend!

    Hey Spicy, another great video. Just a few points, from someone who works in insurance, gender is not a rateable factor. This is not something that can affect your premium anymore. This was abolished a few years back. Also be careful explaining "comprehensive" cover as "fully comp" or saying that everything is covered. Not everything is covered! This causes major problems in the industry as people expect everything to be covered but comprehensive simply means that your bike is covered for accidental damage - this is different to "everything" is covered.
    Finally, so glad you clarified it is "excess" and not "access". You wouldn't believe how many people don't know this!

    • @spicy110
      @spicy110  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I meant it as in you get all the cover from the lower coverage levels i.e. TP, F, T, and accidental damage. However, I can 100% see how people could interpret that as "ANYTHING" is covered. I will remember this in the future.

    • @flowcc
      @flowcc 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've always wondered how in some cases TP ends up being more expensive than a comprehensive level of cover? appreciate you may not know since the system for quoting is all mysterious but its always confused me

    • @nowillnoway
      @nowillnoway 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@flowcc that'll all come down to the stats the insurance companies have. Because historically it's been cheaper for inexperienced drivers/riders to be on third party only insurance, that also means the stats skew heavily towards people taking out TP insurance being more likely to be in an accident.
      This will compound heavily with other factors - somebody with a shiny brand new Porsche, working as a consultant/lawyer/vet/whatever, and taking out a third party insurance *probably* cares about the state of their car, but can afford to cover damage themselves (or are confident they'll be able to claim it on the other party). Somebody with a decade plus old, beat up Corsa, working in retail? Maybe not so much - so the risk of them carelessly scuffing someone's door in a carpark or whatever, and ending up with a claim is higher.
      Also remember that in those cases of cheap older cars, it's the third party claim that's expensive. Often the excess will be getting on for the value of the insured persons car (it's not unusual to see £1k excess on a new drivers insurance), so the insurer could just write it off and not be out any money. But if they've hit someone's beloved merc? New headlight could be nearly a grand alone.
      TL;DR: Third party indicates a higher tolerance for risk/lack of care about *your* car/bike, which translates to actual risk/cost to insurers.

    my first year insurance on a 23 plate sinnis hoodlum, 48yo first year rider, first bike, cbt/provisional: £390 with Aviva, fully comp (and zero excess) on a 3 grand bike. similar boat here - I've been riding a few years renewing my cbt whilst saving for a new bike + full test costs, my insurance last year with bikesure was £290 fully comp with breakdown cover and all the extras, £200 excess but under the excess protect thing they do I don't have to pay that upfront atleast according to the small print, I opt for the monthly payments as it's a little easier for me personally.
      this year it only dropped a measly £10! but even whilst shopping around that was still the cheapest I could get, same bike as previous years an older model sinnis cafe, same location/security etc too.

    Insurance companies are wierd my partner has been driving for 3 years and wierdly it’s cheaper to insure her car kept on the driveway than in a locked garage, because apparently don’t quote me if I’m wrong but apparently some insurance companies cover the garage as well as the vehicle, so some insurance companies prefer if you park on the road, but on the agenda about motorbikes I wish there was an option to say it’s kept in your house 😂😂😂

    • @nowillnoway

      The other thing is the number of people who scuff their cars squeezing into a narrow garage, or knock something over in said garage damaging the car, and then claim on the insurance. That happens enough in a low vehicle theft area, and suddenly the risk of having to pay out a claim is lower for cars on driveways.

      @spicy110 it was for fully comp. I just didn't think it would've been that expensive for someone who is 30+ I was hoping for something like £300 but maybe that's just me being unrealistic, then again the bike is only worth £3000 so £950 insurance is a bit of a rip off I think 🤔

    just say your retired and that drops it a lot.
    more flats are going up so soon you wont have anywhere to park your bike, but that's what the government want, people not to have their own vehicle.
    i have an idea, how about we put money into an account every month, then we can make interest of it instead of them.
    has anyone ever thought that we already have insurance. how's say £1500 a year going to pay for a car that cost say £50k-£70k plus injuries. the insurance company are just the middle people that access your account you have set up from birth.

      I've always wondered about this, along with the commuting option. My last claim, I wasn't asked where I was going or where I work when I was hit.

      If you end up in a big accident that goes to a court and they do an investigation, you could end up liable for everything with no insurance to help you whatsoever…. And potentially an insurance fraud charge.

      Totally depends how serious it is. If the police investigate big time they can use anything against you. Simple prang in the car park no one will ever check
