Ahhh so excited to see you continue with Robin Hobb!! I’m currently on the last book in the Tawny Man Trilogy, and her books just keep getting better and better.
I’m about 2/3 of the way through The house in the cerulean sea and it’s absolutely fantastic. I’ve read many good books this year but I think this one might be my favorite.
So far I’ve read three books since August started 😆 I rediscovered my kindle and I can read so much faster on it vs physical books. I prefer physical books for the aesthetics but i can read so much more with my kindle. Partly because I can hold my kids and read at the same time with my kindle 💕 and I’m starting the poppy wars tomorrow per your recommendation and I’m so excited!
I love Middlegame so much, but I will say that it's maybe not entirely what you're expecting. It does have those elements of alchemy and godhood, but more than anything it's a character story about these two siblings who love each other but keep being seperated. It's more about them, and has elements of a coming of age story than anything else, but I loved it all the more for it.
Well said about Robin Hobb! In The Farseer Trilogy, it’s the characters and the relationships between them that are the most awesome parts of the books.
I'm buddy reading gone with the wind with a friend. So far, very interesting! Otherwise I'm just going to keep going with reading romance on purpose. I might not be totally loving everything thus far but it's making me happy.

I found the first 100 pages of cerulean sea to be a tad slow but then it picks up and I finished it in a day 😅 it's genuinely delightful and wonderful! It defintely deserves the hype!
Royal Assassin and Assassin’s Quest really made me go “oh shoot I think I am obsessed with Robin Hobb!!” Several books later and she is my absolute favorite author!!! It makes me so happy to see you reading her books, I hope you love the Liveship Traders, it is fantastic!

Georgie Farr just start with one book and then another. If you make too ambitious a tbr it will just stare at you and make you feel guilty on the days you don’t read. lol Ask me how I know?

If you can get the audiobook for The House In The Cerulean Sea, I highly recommend it! I listened to it last month and it was so much fun!! The narrator is magical!
I'm planning to read Words of Radiance, Crooked Kingdom and Caliban's War this month as well as a couple nonfiction books on African American history. The House on the Cerulean Sea was such a fun read and Rage of Dragons was a top 2019 read for me. You've also convinced me to finally put Robin Robb on my TBR.

Omg omg omg, so i went i to middlegame not knowing reallynwhat to expect. . . .AT ALL. and i kinda had to force myself to keep reading it coz it was a littlebslow for me but the thenlast 100-150 pages inhad to set aside time to binge because the pacing kicked up a notch and everything came together in a big satisfying explosion. I kind of want to reread it now because there are SO many things throughout the book that are so much more significant in the end butbi turned it into the library already. Womp womp. Enjoy!!!!
I finished reading Assassin's Apprentice last night and I felt the same way - the story is so engaging despite being slow paced and I ended up caring about the characters so much! Can't wait to start book 2 😁
You flipped Linus and Arthur's roles in the "House on the Cerulean Sea" xD It is a wonderful book though, that talks about how those who are "other" are treated in society and whether we can fight our true nature. As the wife of a NYC children's services worker, I can also say it struck pretty on the mark - the children's organization described in this book and all the procedures being followed by Linus are so eerily close to the way the system works in real life... (All that said, it's definitely a sugar cookie of a book!!)
I adore your drive in reading multiple tomes in a month, i'm reading a book a little over 500 pages and i'm so intimidated that i keep putting-off continuing it even if in enjoying it ugh.
I hope to get to the Infernal Devices Trilogy, The Night Circus, Lovely War, The Walled City, Assassin's Apprentice and Royal Assassin, Renegades and War Storm. What have I done to myself...
So many great books in this TBR! I am reading Tower of Dawn and Empire of Storms for a readalong (both like 700 pages) so all of the other books I picked are like 300 pages!

I wish I loved Robin Hobb as much as you do! I think her writing style just doesn't vibe with me. Her storytelling is on point, and I truly love Fitz and Nighteyes. But that deep, introspective writing style is such a slog for me. I finished The Assassin's Quest in July and I'm not sure when, if I ever do, I'll pick up her next series. I've heard her writing gets better and better with time, but to be honest, the ending for The Assassin's Quest was satisfying enough that I wouldn't feel like I was missing out by not continuing onto the next series. :( Thank you for all you do, by the way. Your energy and passion for reading is always such a blast to see, and I look forward to your videos every week!

Have you read Animorphs? If you like war focused stories I think you will like them. They are 50% war is hell, 50% absolutely hilarious, with a generous sprinkle of body horror :D

I just finished the ACOTAR trilogy and it’s gotten me into a trashy SJM mood so I’m starting over the entire Throne of Glass series this month (but I also start vet school so we’ll see how this goes)

My only concrete book is The Song of Achilles, I’ve tried to read it a few times over the years but the longest I got was 40 pages 😅 It’s on my tbr because I read a fic that hit me super hard (reallllly related to the pov character and somehow missed the major character death warning (not the pov character thank GOD)) and ever since my brain has been ”you know what you should do? Re-read that fic!!” so I’m tryna cheat-please it by reading another book that’ll have a similar ending. I’m also gonna try and get back into The Five: The Untold Stories of the Women Killed by Jack the Ripper. I’m currently on the third victim, Elisabeth. She was born and grew up in Sweden, and as a Swedish person myself who’s studied history and did my thesis on sex work, seeing Elisabeth being thrown into the state regulated system was a familiar story.
The Lightbringer Series, I've heard it's great fantasy but I've heard the same criticisms you have of The Dresden Files series leveled against The Lightbringer series so loudly that even as a Dresden fan I've put off picking up what many claim to be a great series by Weeks. I'd be really interested to hear your take on this as I personally started The Dresden Files when I was younger and as I got older I picked up more of the male gaze issues with Harry but also watched some of the maturing he did and things hit differently. I'd like to know if this is something people are upset about in only the first book but that gets better as characters mature or if it is something many other fans are willing to overlook for this series but not for others.
The House in the Cerulean Sea and MiddleGame are two of my all-time favorite books! I'm dying to get to The Poppy War because I hear great (and sad) things. And I apologize if my above comment comes off as anything other than curious because hyper-sexualization of women in fantasy is something that has made my personal enjoyment of a genre I prefer and love more and more difficult of late as it's getting old for me personally and when you mentioned your issues with The Dresden Files I happened to be in the middle of a re-read in anticipation of this year's releases. I do not mean to put down a book you love at all, I may be entirely off-base with my understanding of what I've heard about the books or I may be bringing up something that hasn't ever bothered you during reading the series and I apologize if either is the case. I am commenting to try to find out because I am interested in the magic system like I was before I read Mistborn and was so torn with it (the singular female character of significance looks past the rape of her people by the love interest too quickly for me to look back fondly on the rest of the book or to be able to move forward in the series and that really sucks because I enjoyed the rest of the world and my book club wants to read The Way of Kings so I'm so hopeful/worried for other Sanderson books). I really want to see fantasy celebrated that doesn't give in to these tropes or that at least depicts growth if authors are of an older school and are realizing they were limiting their depictions.
I think she is one of the few OG Booktuber who ACTUALLY reads!!!

And I apologize if my above comment comes off as anything other than curious because hyper-sexualization of women in fantasy is something that has made my personal enjoyment of a genre I prefer and love more and more difficult of late as it's getting old for me personally and when you mentioned your issues with The Dresden Files I happened to be in the middle of a re-read in anticipation of this year's releases. I do not mean to put down a book you love at all, I may be entirely off-base with my understanding of what I've heard about the books or I may be bringing up something that hasn't ever bothered you during reading the series and I apologize if either is the case. I am commenting to try to find out because I am interested in the magic system like I was before I read Mistborn and was so torn with it (the singular female character of significance looks past the rape of her people by the love interest too quickly for me to look back fondly on the rest of the book or to be able to move forward in the series and that really sucks because I enjoyed the rest of the world and my book club wants to read The Way of Kings so I'm so hopeful/worried for other Sanderson books). I really want to see fantasy celebrated that doesn't give in to these tropes or that at least depicts growth if authors are of an older school and are realizing they were limiting their depictions.
