How do i programm channel 3 to programm them again and how do i program other channels like police or other puclic frequencies and m i able to communicate or just listen to them. Hi! I read that this radio station can be opened up to 2 watts in power! Can you tell me how to do it? Did they say on the Radioscanner website that it could be done somehow? The question is how?
If you can, I do not know how to do it. It would make sense though as I think that's the power output in the US and I doubt they design a completely different radio if they could do one and change it in software. Sorry, I can't help.
I was really into getting one of these (XT420 or 460), but the fact VOX is either on or off and you need access to computer to configure VOX level is dead on stupid. How do they expect you to configure VOX level? Run to the place where radio is going to be used, test VOX then run back to the computer/admin to have it adjusted and repeat that until you figure out which one works. Also it's really stupid that you can't enable/disable VOX through one of the programmable buttons. Silly thing is their cheaper (TLKR series) have all of this figured out quite nicely.
Is there an updated link I can use? I have 2 cp110 with display screen. The store I worked for upgraded to the new fancy do everything phones so the mgr asked me if I could use the radios. I only took 2. I did have some personal icom radios when I worked in an RV park but sold them (dumb) when I left. I don't use them very often but you can't pass on free. I found out months later they need to be programmed for certain channels. They could not find the software disk. So I hope you can help me.
Page 47 of the downloadable XT 420 user manual suggests that, even though the radio is provided with 8 channel frequencies, it can be opened up the the later extra 8 channel frequencies making it a true 16 channel radio. I wondered if you have been able to do this with your XT 420?
Interesting. That's changed since I bought mine so it's possible that the models I have don't allow this but current radios do. 16 channels is completely standard now but are often locked (XT185 for example). I'll have to take a look and get back to you.
@@tdcattech After reading out the XT420 using the CPS it should show You the possible frequency range of Your specific device. The XT420 showed me full range from 446,00625 up to 446,19375 MHz. Since I recently bought a new XT460 with all 16 channels enabled. I copied the settings in the CPS and wrote it to my XT420. Even tough the 460 has some extra settings it worked without any problems. Maybe (as You already wrote) it has to be a newer model. My two XT420s were built in 2021. If You need a XT460 profile for CPS, I can send it to You.
@@2beer_OR_NOT_2beer I am very interested by your XT460 CPS profile ! I commented one of your video directly on your channel to get in touch but it might have been hidden by youtube. I would be very grateful if you could check it out :)
The cable will usually come with it's respective drivers on a disc. Mototrbo will typically need to be purchased from a distributor or downloaded from a sharing site.
In Radio information the upper frequency on my XT460 is 446.193750 MHz, meaning it is compatible with the upper eight channels. However there's no option to add those upper eight channels. From what I have found online you must have a license key to be able to do that. Bummer! Other than that the CPS software is a neat little package. Being able to change the functions of the buttons is a nice feature. I have the B button as the scramble setting, very convenient to be able to unscramble the gibberish on the fly.
I’ve added today with the cable: click register and then ask send to the service the radio number, they turn back with the license number: at this point you click on ADD!
@@tdcattech Ok so I just found the same software online (I had to look under a couple rocks). What does 'session time' mean? What happens once the session time runs out? Also, why do you need a CD-ROM drive? Thank you :)
The software essentially installs a local web server which the software uses to do its thing. It’s so you could host the software on one machine but program from multiple different machines on a LAN. Hence the need to have a session time limit. It’s web based so needs to timeout for security. You don’t need a CD-ROM for anything that I’ve ever seen. Hope that helps.
@@Ixquick979 Nope, you need to have Repair or Depot authorization in Business CPS to do frequency reprogramming. And they're Motorola (and their contractors) internal.
Can you help me understand this statement from the users manual? And how the short pressing SB1 actually works? "Please note that when radio is receiving or transmitting, LED is always RED. In order to listen to all activity on a current channel, short press the SB1 button to set the CTCSS/DPL code to 0. This feature is called CTCSS/ DPL Defeat (Squelch set to SILENT)." For example, I was on channel 3 today, with no CTCSS/DCS set. Well it was set to 0 (zero). Now, by short pressing the SB1 button, it sets the code to 0 ... but it is already on 0 anyways. So I press this SB1, and I cannot hear anyone, I press again and all goes back to normal. I cannot understand how can squelch be SILENT?? Squelch is either CLOSED or OPEN, in "normal" radios you can set how very CLOSED it is. When pressing the SB1 button, there is either high tone or low tone. I can never remember what each does, and later I find myself not hearing anything. Thnx.

battery save, can miss channels in scan mode on wake up time! why they put it in there.
Nope, battery save is disabled in scan mode. It wouldn’t make any sense.
Is this the same software that is used to program an APX6000?
No, it won’t be exactly the same but the overall interface and style will most probably be identical. Just different options due to the radio type.
How does the scramble mode sound if one doesn't have that feature?
Just a weird garbled mess. Totally unintelligible to a casual listener but definitely not secure (as it’s easy to descramble)
Did the software come with the cable? Just looking at playing around with my XT660D.

Do you think that the latest download of the CPS software might enable the full 16 channels?
You need an EID licence to unlock for the newer channels circa £120! Not really worth it as it’s the same cost as a new radio!
