yes they will not get injured with that form, everything is correct. But xpat73 is referring to the time under tension. They are not looking to build muscle, they are trying to building explosive power
@Simon Barr the spine is actually ok (maybe a bit too much) as you are suppose to have an arch in your back when you do heavy bench. its the fact that he lifts is ass off the bench that is poor technique.
well, as the trainer was saying they are in a power/speed phase of training not a getting as strong as possible phase. and most of those guys are not bouncing the weight off their chest as xpat was saying. thought they could have kept their elbows in a bit more.
this is kinda on tangent. but a kipping pull up is not a substitute to a "real" pull up. Its more of an endurance/cardio then a muscle building exorcise. people who do it intentionally (crossfitters) are doing it exactly because "a) quicker b) for more reps" so they can keep their heart rate up for longer. While it is usually better to do a full ROM to a stop in most excessives. depending on your goals bouncing isnt a huge no no when you trying to work on speed.
New Zealand forwards don't look it but they are very very conditioned and training regiments are brutal from ages 13+. Weights only help with power and explosiveness, from what I learned our main focus is improving our basic biomechanics and making a well rounded fit as well as strong individual. I would see some of the Samoan and Tongan boys benching 150+ at 16 but that's no good when you can't do it for 80 minutes.
Terrible form or not they are still professional players at the highest international level and that's a lot more than you can say with your good form.
Can someone please help me explain how bench press helps in rugby, my teammates refuse to believe it helps at all but you can clearly see professional teams doing it
Benching for power involves the entire upper body and if you are doing it right you'll activate your quads as well. It's makes you very stable I'd, having that abdominal and chest strength. Don't forget to overhead press for shoulders though.
All looks good and OK. Nothing outrageous going on. Heavier lifters doing, I assume, low reps with 150KG. Were I seeing players repping bench presses with 250KG you'd know they were juiced.
You know this is in KG, right? Go look at exrx's strength standards and you'll see that 140 is pretty fucking high, and considered "elite" for anyone under 100kg BW.
in the kipping pull up there my be less work on the lats and biceps but sense you are swinging you would be involving other muscles and it would probably be harder to hold on. it depends what are your goals. if you want to build muscle then you want full ROM and to bring the weight to a dead stop but if you just want speed its not a big deal if you dont, it would be better if you did but its not that important, to have a little bounce. the important part is to move the weight at speed.
they are using good form they just aren't focusing on time under tension like bodybuilders would. They aren't going to injure themselves with that form.
Yea I know mate, we use metric system in New Zealand, Imperial are ridiculous measurements. I used to watch Scott Linklater back in the day at the Waikato University Gym (when he was playing for Waikato) bench 200+ doing multiple reps. I would do 3 sets of 15x120 at low/mid/high inclines when I was 17 and probably still can. Weights just make you to big and less mobile so I stick more to high rep lower weight and aerobic exercise instead of anaeroboic. I don't ever bench under 100kg though.
140 is not alot, that was typically the norm for highschool here. Age 17+, I prefer less weight and more reps but then I don't consider 140 to be high.

Cian Healy is a BEAST!
It is about form. Bodybuilders aren't the only people that have to use good form, training for power/explosiveness requires proper technique too.
I'm not a professional anything to do with sports I've just seen a few youtube videos so I know you're doing it wrong. Love it
Especially the bench press you dont bounce the weight to the chest.
And the pull up was horrible.
Exactly they ain’t lifting heavy enough, ffs I’m only 11.5 stone and can press sets of 3 at 110 kg ...
Very good

Lmao at the last bit.

Come on Ireland !!!!
good video

how much weight was cian healy lifting in the bench???
Over 300lbs
For guy his weight that's pretty crap

You're asking how having a stronger pushing strength helps in rugby? Really?
Ian Newton Having extra mass in the contact. Explosive and static strength in the push movementent its not a giant mystery...

Good one waldo!!
I think professional strength and conditioning coaches of a top international rugby team know what they're doing...
All looks good and OK. Nothing outrageous going on. Heavier lifters doing, I assume, low reps with 150KG.

myroseaccount No rugby player would be benching 250kg for reps, 90% of power lifters wouldn’t be repping 250kg
140!!! what a machine
crazyelves 140+20

At 0.52 I thought Cian Healy was having a Miller
Irish must win......
They nearly won the test match the week before though.
....okay, I'll take the high ground.
they're under supervision of experts, I'm sure they're doing the lifts correct
locking out, goodnight sweet elbow joint

about 140/150 Kg
Mcfaddens wink @ 2:15
All these people thinking they know more than professional strength and conditioning coaches. Hilarious.
Feel sorry for you mate.
what a joke they use rubber plates to look big on the bar ha ha ...and that guy with chin ups was like duck lifting him up quite funny
2019 World Cup
will dis thing fkin work

Cool story bro
Kh
You honestly still think I'm trolling? LOL
Powerlifters don't bounce the weight off the chest either, and they are not bodybuilders.
are their weights plastic or something.... why are the 20kg so big haha
They're called bumper plates. So you can drop them on the ground and not cause too much damage
+Jean-Claude Spamer r u 2
Fergus is gas
Very interesting. I now know why yers get bashed by the likes of England
You mad bro? You don't even lift!!! Lolololol!!
they are'nt bodybuilders bro, they are just looking too push the biggest weight around as possible
Terrible form on the bench press. You are not meant to bounce the weights off your chest.
I'm alright, I feel sorry for you because your surround by a bunch of puff guys who float around.
Dear lord what is the purpose of bulking up like that?!
Figures why it's so fucking boring. Enough muscles, but be more athletic....speed kills: P(f)=MA
Weaker than the english though
So weak
Well you do look pretty gay & there's no chance you're a lifter but if you know your shit then do it!!!!! Don't just talk bout it.
Very unimpressed guys over 100kgs barely benching 120kgs 🤣🤣🤣
Very good
