This video is a god send. So many little tips and helpful pieces of info. I just used it to upgrade my new stick w/ the longer shaft, hard spring and circular restrictor. Now to install this bad boy.
Thanks for the video. I too have had problems with the risers getting stuck and having to tighten with pliers. Was installing my 4th U360 this weekend and actually snapped of the riser in the base. Contacted Andy and the replacement parts are on their way. He does a great job. I didn't realize you could separate the top and bottom part of the joystick with the 4 top screws... Thanks Again
Thanks for this great video - It's helped me twice now since I've ordered two of these and this is a super helpful video for making the upgrades to the stick. Awesome job!!!!
Do these joysticks work for games like ikari warriors and heavy barrel? And is there a video floating around on how to set up with software to get them to change from 4 way to 8 way when you change games? i am using attractmode frontend and i want to order some of these.
Both of those games featured rotary joysticks and the U360 is not a rotary joystick. You would probably have to use a seperate spinner for the rotary function. If you use the right plugin, like LED Blinky, then selection between 2-way, 4-way, and 8-way will be automatic.
@@Robert-Downey You need the UltraStik 360 Rotary Joystick Upgrade from www.ultimarc.com for rotary games. I just pickup 2 of them but need to learn how to install them
I'm curious how you got the ultrastik 360 to work with the hyperspin. I haven't had any luck yet. Your video is outstanding. I need to order more parts, lol.
Sidequestion, I have the problem that i cannot properly center so I have to add a 15% per acis deadzone because the joystick never properly returns within lets say acceptable 5% of the center when going back. My guess is a stiffer spring fixes that issue the original spring does not really push the stick enough back into zero. Did it for you. And do you know whether you need to buy the rather expensive últimarc spring or does any spring also fitting into a sanwa JLF part work, since this joystick borrows a lot from the sanwa design and subparts, my guess is it might work. Maybe you know that.
I used the Ultimarc UltraStik Hard Spring , which works fine. I thought $3 was reasonable, but I suppose any similarly sized spring would work, although i don't know about the Sanwa in particular.
In Digital mode is this thing on a PC a hatswitch and a Axis joystick in Analog on forums I am being told it works that way but does it I have my doubts?
Going to attempt to solder the 'button harness' wires to a switch circuit board, do you know/think the stick will need the usb for power or is there a supply for that on the 'button harness'?
hi excellent video!! Im building my own arcade which is going to have about 11 buttons per player do you think this stick comes with enough connectors? im also adding a mini analog joystick to work as the right stick in modern games, so I guess it should be connected there... any thoughts
Many thanks for this vid. Tossing up between this and a servo stick. Sounds anal, but I like the click of the switches! Also wonder how many times I will play analog games and QBert-style ones.
I emailed Andy and he says the problems are all cleared up: "The restrictor plate has undergone a revision since then and the mounting pillars two revisions and change of manufacturer, plus nylon washers changed. We are not aware of any issues."
Hey MultiMcdude, did you ever figure this out? I'm running into this exact issue. I can't change the handle if I can't get the damned magnet off (I have the Oval top model and I'm looking to replace it will the ball top stick at the same time as get a longer handle) Cheers.
This won't readily work with raspberry pi and retropie, right? It doesn't take the "analog" aspect, I believe. I think people try workarounds with the coding, but that seems beyond me.
Fitting my restrictor and stiffer spring tomorrow... Thanks for the tips - glad I watched this first!

Just for anyone one wondering, the restrictor plate has been slightly modified in newer models and seem to fit perfectly now.
To tighten (or loosen) ball top, use a screwdriver on the slot on the bottom of the shaft.
Great video! Can you do one showing how to make mame or launchbox automatically load configs for qbert?
Any idea on how to disassemble the flight stick so it can be mounted on a cp?
you ever figure out how to do this? I am having trouble getting it apart after I take off the clip.

Why not use a needle file if you need to make the channels wider in the plastic restrictor?
How do you setup the custom maps for emulators / games for the u360? Is there a tutorial video available?

The stick gets its power from the USB, not the button harness.
@@Robert-Downey Is it shipped w/ needed wires or should I find them elsewhere?
@@gamesonastick It does not ship with wires, but there are wires for sale on the Ultimarc website under joystick accessories.

+johnny ulate The U360 can only have 8 buttons per stick.

Have the issues with the risers and the PCB been fixed on newer versions of this stick?
Sorry, but I don't know if they've changed it.

Awesome! Thanks for the update!
Thanks alot for the video.
does anyone know if i would be able to use on of these in a normal console arcade stick? something like the madcatz te2?
What's the difference between using the circular restrictor and using no restrictor?
It just makes it so that the throw is smaller than without the restrictor. With or without are both "circular."
When you made your arcades was your front end hyperspin?
I use both Hyperspin and GameEx.
how did you get the magnet off? Mine feels like its glued or screwed on the joystick rod end.
Huh, that must be new. On my version, the magnet is not permanently attached. It's just magnetically attached and pulls off easily.

I think you mean mm, not cm, otherwise it would be a gigantic joystick. Good video.
