  • This is Part 1 of our visit to the site of the Bahadurkhel mine which is a large salt mine located in the village Bahadur Khel, Karak District , Province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan. This salt mine is one of the largest salt reserves in Pakistan with an estimated reserves of 10.5 billion tons. This salt mine produces high-quality rock salt suitable for human consumption.
Halite commonly known as rock salt, is a type of salt, the mineral (natural) form of sodium chloride (NaCl). Halite forms isometric crystals which is typically colorless or white, but may also be light blue, dark blue, purple, pink, red, orange, yellow or gray depending on inclusion of other materials and impurities in the crystals.
Halite occurs chiefly in sedimentary rocks where it has been deposited by evaporation from sea water or salt lakes.
