    Do women need progesterone when using a topical estrogen cream if they still have periods? There's this new fad of using estrogen cream on the face for skincare. But is it safe? Thank you for any information.

    • @DrSophieGP
      @DrSophieGP  5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yes, transdermal oestrogen via spray, gel, or patch still needs progesterone (unless had a hysterectomy). Vaginal topical oestrogen does not. I have no idea about using it as skincare, but I would avoid it until we know more!

    Hi, I have started on the estradiol patches for three weeks now. I have gained 4 pounds lots of bloating and breast, swelling and tenderness. When are these symptoms going to stop?

    • @DrSophieGP
      @DrSophieGP  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Breast swelling and bloating are common side effects when starting HRT, especially in the first few weeks. For most people, these symptoms settle down as your body adjusts, which can take around 3-6 months. However, if the symptoms are severe or aren’t improving, it’s a good idea to speak with your GP or the prescribing doctor-they may need to adjust your dose or type of HRT.

    Great video. I have been on evorel sequel for 3 months and have had some great overall improvements. Can I ask is it OK to take vitamin D or others vitamins whilst on HRT? When I'm on my 1st week of progesterone patches my mood lowers slightly. I have discussed options with my nurse but I need to wait 12 months before changing prescription. so just wondering if vitamins would help or hinder. Many thanks 😊

    • @DrSophieGP
      @DrSophieGP  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The great thing about HRT is that you are just topping up back to the levels of oestrogen you have lost, so drug interactions are not much of a concern. In general, depending on how much sunshine you get, it’s a great idea to take vitamin D. I have done a video this if you want more info. Magnesium is another vitamin I often recommend, but nothing else unless you have reason to suspect deficiencies, eg B12 if vegan. Hope that helps!

    I wish my experience was as easy, I am going through it early I’m 45 now and when I turned 40 and changed my contraceptive from depo injection to the mini pill that’s when my problems started and there are a lot more extreme than the problems you have gone through.
    It took me 3 years to get a blood test after showing signs and I was told I was too young ?, I was tried on one estogen patch and it didn’t agree with me so I have been left with nothing and in not such a good way with my health

    • @DrSophieGP
      @DrSophieGP  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So sorry to hear this. You’re definitely not ‘too young’. Perhaps you should try going back to your doctors and asking to try an alternative if you haven’t already?

    • @karensmith3997

      If I could get to see a doctor who would take me serious would be a start. Basic biology they know chemicals we use in everyday products can mimic our hormones and cause problems but they don’t understand the menopause, I had problems at puberty they could of warned me about this.
      I have spent the first 6 months of the year with sever nerve pain in my scalp and right hand side of my face and also paralysis and I have got no help at all.
      The reason I am saying this is because people are being let down by this, it all sound so easy when you know what you are going through I nearly lost everything because the gp’s didn’t listen.
      This is a serious problem that needs addressing properly.
      I don’t got hot flushes it’s probably the only symptom I don’t get.
      Try helping people that are really suffering through this

I want to start hrt now to help mitigate this. I also feel more anxious the last few yrs not sure why but all this males me feel it's time for HRT eventhough all my male Dr can see is my age and the fact I still have periods.

    • @DrSophieGP
      @DrSophieGP  25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It isn’t licensed for a preventative treatment for Alzheimer’s and there may be many causes of anxiety, so it might be correct not to rush into HRT for people without core symptoms.

      There’s some controversy about whether women should go on HRT for the health benefits, but currently the guidance is to trial it only if you have symptoms.

      Sorry to hear you are having such a hard time getting an appointment, if you are in the UK, I can appreciate that the NHS is struggling at the moment with increased demand and not enough staff unfortunately. I always recommend switching from tablet oestrogen to transdermal, as per the video, as this is the safest form of HRT. Perhaps try an econsult if that option is available to you.

    • @michellebiagott4593
      @michellebiagott4593 ปีที่แล้ว

      @DrSophieGP thankyou I do have that option however they don't always get back to you ,I am told often that the services are overwhelmed which I understand greatly again though that doesn't help me .so I'm not even going to attempt to try and change as I'm alright on kliovance which is one pill .The patches get dirty quickly and lose there stick and when I did do the two pills I could never sleep when I was on progesterone only .

    • @DrSophieGP

      The HRT helps settle the symptoms, so I’m not sure what you mean? We always start on the lower dose, so often women need to increase their dose to get on top of their symptoms.

    You can get pregnant without a period? How?

    • @DrSophieGP
      @DrSophieGP  หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you’re perimenopausal and not having regular periods, it’s still possible to get pregnant because ovulation can occur sporadically during this time. If you’re unsure about your specific situation, I’d recommend speaking to your GP for personalised advice.

    • @LARA4LIFE_9-y1z

      @DrSophieGP if you're only having light spotting how would a fertilised egg implant? There's not enough lining to support this.

    • @DrSophieGP
      @DrSophieGP  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Even with light spotting or a thin lining, it’s still possible for an egg to implant. During perimenopause, hormone levels can fluctuate unpredictably, which means ovulation and implantation can still occur, even if the uterine lining isn’t optimal.
