The fact that dogs love interacting with him tells me he’s a loving person. Dogs and babies are very selective.
This right here. I usually take in 100+ lb rescues, because at that size they often don't have much of a chance to be adopted otherwise. Especially given their typical histories; most people just don't know about the special needs of dogs that large, or how to resocialize an abused animal with a stubborn or independent personality.
But I'm a dog magnet wherever I go. I can't even count the number of times I've heard "you're the first person/man that dog has ever run up to like that" over the years. I love dogs, and they tend to be pretty big fans of me in return. I've even been invited to my local ASPCA after they close, just to interact with some of their harder luck cases. I've never not had a dog immediately come up to me, no matter what its history was.
I do know that I'll trust the opinion of a dog over those of most people. If my dog doesn't like you for some reason, I'm not going to like you, either.
