Dwight Yoakam is one of the greatest modern country artists. My personal favorite by him is “1000 Miles From Nowhere “,but he has too many great songs to try to list here. Hope you will do a deep dive on Dwight.
Gotta love the Bakersfield Sound! All started by Buck Owens! Dwight Yoakam has an AWESOME version of The Clash’ “Train In Vain”…I swear if you listen to both you will be blown away how the same song/same lyrics can sound like 2 totally different songs! 🤙🏽
Everything Dwight does is great. You should hear his bluegrass version of Purple Rain recorded as a tribute to Prince on the day he passed and Dwight found out it happened.
"It Won't Hurt" is a song written and recorded by American country music artist Dwight Yoakam. It was released in November 1986 as the third and final single from his debut album Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc.. While it missed the top 30 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, it became a top ten hit in Canada, peaking at number 7 on the Canadian RPM country singles chart. Larry Flick, of Billboard magazine reviewed the song favorably, calling it a "classic hurtin' and drinkin' song convincingly sung." (Wikipedia)
The vocal breaking (similar to yodeling) is a Celtic thing... You can also hear it with the 90's Irish alt-rock band, The Cranberries, and Dolores O'Riordan's vocals. However, welcome to California Country. Although Dwight's from Kentucky, his mentor was Buck Owens. To which, I would recommend Merle Haggard's "Sing Me Back Home" ... as far as California Country goes :)
This and "Nothing's Changed Here" are my favorite Dwight Yoakam songs. So glad you played it! And Asia, you from Texas ain't ya? You say you can't sing like that but being from Texas I bet you got it in you to do it!
Dwight the legend. React to the upbeat rockin tunes " Fast as You " and " Long White Cadillac " live. Dwight can do the twang, and he can rock out as well.
I love Dwight’s voice; he’s got a country drawl that is quite specific to him. I get what you’re saying about that little yodel sound. It’s kind of a twang, but I don’t know what to call it either. He’s great, so thanks for this reaction.
Please check out "Fast As You." Phenomenal, true country voice, with the late, great Eddy Shaver on guitar.... Eddy Shaver was Billy Joe Shaver's son... speaking of which, "Georgia On A Fast Train" will blow your minds!
Hey since you guys like the country stuff you ought to try Don Williams-Heartbeat In The Darkness, they called him the Gentle Giant of country music cause he was so kind, friendly towards everybody! He passed away a couple years ago but he’s definitely a country legend! Thanks and keep the videos coming!
THE TWANG IN DWIGHT'S VOICE IS CALLED " THE SOUTHERN DRAW " IT'S A NATURAL PART OF WHERE HE WAS RAISED IN THE SOUTHEAST OF KENTUCKY! YOU CAN'T GET IT FROM VOICE LESSON'S OR, MUSIC LESSON'S IT COMES NATUALLY, IT'S JUST A PART OF HIM, HIS VOICE HAS ALWAY'S BEEN THAT WAY!
I'M A SOUTHEAST KENTUCKY GIRL, I LIVE IN A SMALL TOWN ABOUT AN HOUR AND, A HALF FROM WHERE DWIGHT WAS BORN AND, RAISED. I WAS BORN AND RAISED HERE TOO, BEEN HERE ALL MY LIFE!
Yeah, Dwight is great at that country twang voice thing. I think it's a form of yodel phrasing; momentarily throwing the voice "out of gear". I can't do it, either.

Dwight's voice and that steel guitar give me the chills.

You're referring to the nasal tone.

Listen to it only hurts me when i cry
Dwight resurrected the Bakersfield sound as well as introducing many younger fans to Buck Owens.
